I have ridden (and occasionally raced) my entire life (almost 50 now) and though I hear the argument above, I am still super stoked to see that you're willing to take on the challenge of an endurance race with the current state of art ebikes. Taking on a challenge is (more than) half the fun, pushing the boundaries will only raise the bar for all of us.👍
Two vargs & one or two ultra bees would be great to see. Would be awesome for you guys to do an in-depth comparison of the varg & the race-ready ultra bees, pros & cons, where each is faster etc. I have a varg but thinking about getting an ultra bee and a 2nd. Thanks!
We can definitely do that! Shop Owner Brian Loves racing his Varg and the other owner Nate loves racing his ultra bee. It would be awesome to get into the pros and cons of each bike. Its heavy winter time for us here in Utah but we would love to get head to head track comparisons of our athlete Brett pushing each one of these bikes on a track!
You’ve done ultra bee but not storm bee??? Also could just swap out battery between pit stops? Built another extra battery on bike somewhere and flip switch?
The main reason we have not raced the Storm Bee is the lack of aftermarket to make it a race bike. It's a good trail bike, but racing it is a different story. We would need extra batteries which are not easy to acquire and suspension is in need of tuning (too soft). It's an option but would need some R&D before the race.
That gap was really sweet, no question about that! You should bring at least two Vargs (or Vargar which is correct Swedish), just for science, but I suspect that the sand part of the track will be really beaten after a couple of hours so then a lighter Surron might be the right choice? Sounds like a really fun race!
Unfortunately this race is way too “big” for a light bee or Talaria Sting. The speeds and terrain are just too fast and we would break it for sure. Also the race organizers won’t allow them to race.
The best option you got will be the ultras😁 just being able to hot swap those batteries will make all difference 🤟 20kw will be fast enough to beat almost everything 😉
As someone waiting to pull the trigger on buying an emoto..I think this is the WORST possible race to enter for a few reasons. 1 - When (not if) you don't finish a lap & you'll either abandon the bike or push it back 1 - 2 MILES confirming to every electric bike hater everything they have been saying about limited range. 2 - When you fail this will have negative consequences on your business (& the electric bike industry at large) because even to those people favorably disposed to buying an electric bike...they will see just how limited the range is under actual race conditions. Proving to all they are just silly toys for stunting & doing wheelies. 3 - The heroics that will be required to make it past 3 hours will highlight the giant hassle electric bikes are to keep runing past 30 minutes & only someone willing to have 2 (or more) $13,000+ bikes can actually race them. The only races you should be entering against ICE bikes should be on flat, hard packed ground under 40 miles or Supercross races. You are not thinking this through & will regret it.
I think you did not watch the explanation of how this race works. If you were trying to ironman this event as a solo rider on 1 bike, then yes your concerns are real. However, we're doing this is a 4 rider/bike team which means each bike is on the track for ~2hours. Each lap is about 6 miles. We've already raced at this event with both Varg and Ultra Bee and we know for a fact we can do 2 laps (12 miles) each rider session. The only complicated bit is ensuring there is enough time to charge the bikes while the other 3 riders are out on the track and/or have extra batteries. We got this!
@@ChargedCycleWorks So you are saying to do this race all you'll need is... 2 - Vargs @ $ 13,000 2 - Modified Ultra Bees @ $ 10,000 - $ 15,000+ ? 2 - Stark batteries @ $ 6,000 (?) 2 - Ultra Bee batteries @ $ 3,500 3 - Generators @ $ 2,000+/- Only $ 70,000 - $ 80,000 give or take or do it with an $ 11,000 KTM + < 10 gallons of gas I'm sure you'll convince a lot of people electric bikes are the future..R-I-G-H-T
It's a team race made for you and your buddies to put a team together and have a great time. Our 4 bikes are no different than everybody else who is racing this with 4 KTM/Honda/Yamaha 450's costing an equal amount of money.
@@ChargedCycleWorks Sorry to be a PIA, but I assume each rider will ride 1 hr. at a time so bike/rider #1 will ride the 1st & 5th hr, bike/rider #2 the 2nd & 6th etc. So, you'll either charge or change batteries on each bike for their 2nd stints....correct? You say that a 4 man ICE team will ride 4 bikes....but why, when all they need to due is just top-off the tank when they change riders? When I raced endurance races we were required to use the same bike for the whole race. I repeat...no one looking at ....HAVING.... to use 4 bikes & charging/changing batteries just highlights the limitations of electric bikes. Electric bikes have their advantages...endurance, isn't one of them.
After just completing this race out of the 220 teams we didn't see a single ICE team sharing 1 bike. Each rider brought there own personal bike. And many of the bikes broke and never finished the race, just one of many reasons why teams use multiple bikes. Plus....nobody wants to ride somoene else's bike, you want to ride your personal bike that you've setup for your own personal preferences.

We will definitely be bringing 2 vargs! We will Post another video once we sort out which bikes we are bringing!
Is it even possible to run a light bee in this race? Would be cool to see all 3 bikes being run. Maybe the light bee with 18/21?
