Kudos to that person who had a camera in 1981 and decided to record this amazing historical moment! (also to the one who digitalized the video and uploaded it here)
Brilliant. He was Bruce Bruce at this time. I had the pic Disc vinyl of the single. Bought NOTB in Worksop of all places! Didn’t know he was from there at the time. Aye the road to the overblown Maiden but we all loved that album and Live After Death coming out on VHS. My mate got robbed for getting a bit emotional - but as he lived Clive and we kept going back to Killers and the Paul Diannos era. The amazing singles and controversial artwork really was something people noticed as more than the later theatre. Women In Uniform and Sanctuary, Twilight Zone etc were a bit freaky.
@@stevemtc1Samson should have been bigger than Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. Samson released the best album for 1980 . Better than British Steel, Heaven and Hell, and 1000 times better than Back in Black. Head On should have sold 2 billion copies.
There’s actually another song from donkeys ago that is the Two Minutes to Midnight riff. I heard it on the radio and haven’t heard it since. I couldn’t believe how close it was.
Bruce and Samson is exactly like Sammy and Montrose. I think it was their best for both because of the more crude wild rawness of the rock and the times

And its remarkable to mention that the drummer here is....MEL GAYNOR , the man behind the drums of Simple MInds.......Great drummer!!!! Bruce concerning , that's what Harris and Rod saw and later they approached Bruce under a light pole , in the middle of the small circle with band tents all around and asked him to join Iron Maiden......the rest is history.
One of my fave all time albums 👍 Bruce D hit the ground running, and the stars aligned, and the timing for his singing and genre was perfect. Quite unbelievable 😮 it’s like we were waiting for him 👏👏👏
He sings from a different part of his vocal cords nowadays which gives him a lot of range but the voice is much thinner sounding and he has a lot less breath for long notes. Part due to cancer but mainly he's such a clever bastard he just worked out he could sing this way into old age whereas the Rob Halfords and Geoff Tates are left coughing up an organ trying to compete
Bruce era o coração e a alma do Samson...sua voz potente e contagiante agitava o público e os músicos mantendo um paredão sonoro para a performance de palco do seu Front man 🤘🤘
I purchased AND AM READING THE autobiography "what does this button do?" it's an authorized Autobiography by Bruce Dickinson, so I am really happy to hear him in this video of him in Samson, "Riding with the angels" his new effort in singing, any Maiden or B. Dickinson fan can't help but, love this.
It's incredible that Iron Maiden's family tree is made up of just super talent. I think we're all happy and the world is a better place for Iron Maiden the way it is now but man some of these bands before--Namely Samson's we're incredible in their own right. Doug Samson is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED!!
@@Myndir It's Doug Sampson (to avoid further confusion!). I think Barry (Thunderstick) Purkis was replaced in Maiden by Doug and Doug replaced him again in Samson. Bad luck Barry!
A diamond in the rough. He had more energy then the entire band!!! You can hear that razor factor in his voice that we would hear on the scream intro to number of the beast and the end of run to the hills! Up the irons!!
Seen excerpts from this video worked into the 1981 film Incubus . The music video seemed really bizarre, as it was bits and pieces. Now the concept makes sense, it was about Samson.
Maaan, I really got to listen some more of Samson, cause this song is great. Bruce's vocal was awesome, that's why Iron Maiden wanted him so much. Then again, probably loads of other bands wanted to have such a tremendous singer. You just can't blame Steve or Rod for getting Dickinson, cause even Bruce himself wanted to hit bigger success. It's very weird that NOTB was recorded, mixed and produced in only 30 days though :/
Oh wow! first time seeing this, Samson were a great band in the eary 80s with Dickenson. As good as Diannos Iron Maiden dare i say. Check out their albums "Head On" and "Shock Tactics". They couldve been a major band if Dickenson stayed.
He’s just a man. Idolatry is a grave sin that must be avoided as it places souls on the wide path to eternal damnation in Hell, if one doesn’t repent/receive forgiveness for one’s sins prior to death. Peace!
This sounds like a maiden song (2 minutes..) in some ways, so linked now is Bruce voice with maiden. I too love Paul D, and those first two albums are brilliant, but they couldn't have gone any further with him

Even when he was in Samson, he worked the crowd. That voice is gold. I think he sung well then knowing he had audition for Iron Maiden that same time
Bruce is a natural in that regard. Solid stage presence.
What is this band Samson ? I'd like to hear them...🎉

Bruce already had that presence on stage. Glad he joined Maiden later
Nothing special. BD just was much more reliable than Paul.
Sampson got so much bigger than Maiden I wonder if Bruce feels like the fifth beetles member. (NOT)

His voice is incredible!
Sempre foi!!
If the crowd thought this was good? They must have freaked when they heard him with maiden !!😮
That voice... that's just dynamite!
Love Samson, very underrated band.
I was at this gig :-) They were not a huge band but the Reading crowd loved them... great energy that day.
Bruce is a amazing vocalist
Samson was a damn good Band, Bruce Dickinson as always great voice.
Bruce was a Super Star The Instant he got on any stage! He's always had that IT Factor!!!!!
Bruce dickinson con su voz fresquita en aquel entonces.....tremendo vocalista.
This song is like i am listening to "two minutes to midnight"!..
There’s actually another song from donkeys ago that is the Two Minutes to Midnight riff. I heard it on the radio and haven’t heard it since. I couldn’t believe how close it was.
Bruce’s charisma really stands out on that stage.
Bruce is the best! Up the Irons!
Bruce and Samson is exactly like Sammy and Montrose. I think it was their best for both because of the more crude wild rawness of the rock and the times
His voice is great in Rock'n Roll, but in Metal is even better and fits totally.
exactly
Back then this was Metal part of the New Age of Heavy Metal.
Esa voz y esa presencia escénica... increíble. Y Harris entre el público tomando buena nota.
Bruce Dickinson + Iron Maiden = Perfection! ...but I really like this song too!
Every band Bruce joins is automatically 100% more better with him at the helm

God bless Bruce Dickinson. this shit sounds pretty good.
His voice is just the same as in 1990 when he played this song!! ^^ Great man!
MrZombow whaaaaaat? In 1990 he was like a whole octave lower!!!!!!
Very cool! I'm currently reading Bruce's book where he's talking about his time being in Samson. Never saw or heard Samson before. Awesome!
Ridin' with the Air Raid Siren!

Dang his intro talking tone is right out of the song Total Eclipse.

THE Air Raid Siren!!!!
In his early years no one could match Bruce's voice... neither nowadays. He's unreachable...
He was the perfect choice for Iron Maiden!
Not very, because IM lost many of its street cred touch and rough edge. But BD is a workoholic and diciplined, it suited to Steve Harris.
