This is the best video I've seen on the circle of fifths! And I've watched MANY a video on them, but this is definitely the clearest and practical, and answers all my questions in regards to tritones and tonality!
One of the best courses I’ve purchased in recent years…maybe even ever. So musically valuable, useful and very clearly presented. Not only modes, also interval knowledge, chords and progressions are covered. If you ought to buy just one course, this should be it. For not even the price of a guitar cable!
That was the most amazing modal breakdown and explanation i have ever seen. The visual connection was what we guitarist and writers needed. Thank you.....this may be one of the most valuable theory videos i have ever observed.
Glad to hear you are back…,you are a great teacher. I would like to see something on rock guitar techniques: pinch harmonics tapping, palm muting, pick slides, sweep picking, etc….thank you!
I have purchased Ry Naylor’s Circle of Fifths for which this video represents a fraction of the e book course material.I am taking intermediate guitar lessons on a weekly basis, and this specific material is now cropping up with my guitar teacher. My recent study of Major and minor pentatonic scales has been revisited because of Ry’s new material on the Circle of Fifths, I now consider it complete…thanks to Ry’s concise explanation. I strongly recommend this material as best on the web.
Would add that ry's guitar blueprint course has been so helpful in my work on improvisation , triads, expanding the pentatonics etc Makes additional learning so much easier
Amazing. Merci beaucoup. I'm still a Newbie, so still learning. But I started practicing my modes in that order since it made more sense, Lydian first and going gradually darker. But I never had thought about the circle relationship
Ryan your online courses have been a wealth of clear & meaningful help in learning to play the guitar. This new/latest ebook, expanding the power of the Circle of 5ths to explain the Modes looks as promising as your guitar blue print course! 👍🏾👍🏼✔
Any given 7-note segment could be any of the seven modes depending on which note you choose to be the root. C, G, D, A, E, B, F# could be either super-bright C Lydian or super-dark F# Locrian. Why do the two sound completely different?
Quick question - for example, using the circle of fifths to find the chords of C mixolydian (Bb, F & C) could I create a simple chord progression over the 3 chords, loop it and then create a lead using notes from the C mixolydian scale? Would this also work with the minor chords and even the diminished? Ry mentions triads but will any chord shape do?
Hey Tim. Thanks for the question. Yes, that would work, something like C - Bb - F - C would be a good loop to work C mixolydian. Even better would be to keep the C bass note in each chord, so C - Bb/C - F/C - F would give a stronger sense of C as the tonal centre. You can add the minor chords from the key too (less so the diminished triad). You have to be careful with other types of chords (like, for example, seventh chords) as there are a few more 'rules' that have to be learned to ensure you're getting the desired backing track. Hope that helps 🙏🏻

It’s the harmony you’re playing the scale over that determines the sound.
WOW so much info makes great sense thankyou
You're very welcome 🙏🏻

Why didn't you discuss the parallel modes?
is that PDF available for those who purchase the circle of fifth book ?
Hey Boaz. The PDF is a Patreon exclusive handout, but it closely matches what's in the final chapter of the eBook 🙏🏻
Black magic.
