This is one day from my winter trip through the mountains, I came to this shelter to do some things on the street and restore a little those places that may turn out to be critical in the winter season and will bring inconvenience, but the weather deteriorated sharply and a strong wind rose, I had to hide in a log cabin from him

As a kid growing up in Alaska before Statehood, it was an unwritten rule you never locked your door, kept a full wood box & some sort of basic food & essentials in your cabin( no matter where the cabin was or how remote. It was a matter of survival for those lost, too far from home or inclement weather. I do not know if that is still a common thing or not anymore.
I admire that code. I regret the lost you mention want my generator, my tools, my rain suit, my backwoods hat and leave the door open when they left.
@Burr Anderson it's common knowledge to people that care and have common sense. Unfortunately, a lot of people anymore would rather vandalize someone's home or stuff than be decent human beings
I know it's a common practice still in Alaska but also in a lot of other states is the same way there's places in Colorado that have safe havens as I call them always can food and drywood on stock
The name of a famous Alaskan bookstore had (? has) as its logo and symbol sod-covered cache, which I'd heard was where those victuals might be kept up and away from the bears and wolverines near these emergency shelters. The Book Cache. It's been years since I stopped in, so it's probably long-closed.

I LOVE how respectful you are. It doesn't matter if it's your place, if it needed fixed you fixed it. I think that's a wonderful trait in a person!

I was so happy when you gathered the rocks to put on top of the stove. Stones store and radiate heat in a really amazing way. I've used them before to great effect while sleeping in a tent in the winter for a month. I'd heat them up and at bed time wrap them in some towels. I'd keep one down at my feet and also clutch one to my chest. I always went to bed warm and never suffered through the night. In the morning the rocks *still* retained substantial heat for a whole 7, 8 hours of sleep. I went to sleep each night with a big smile on my face to be dry and warm and comfortable, even while living in a tent.
Super cool how you cleaned and fixed up the old spot. What a great place to respite for a brief time and hunker down against the winter chill.

Many years ago my skidoo broke about a hundred miles from anything in a bad snowstorm. After snowshoeing for about 20 clicks with wolves howling in the distance, supplies running low and darkness setting in, I was blessed to spot an old beat up log cabin in the distance. It looked like the Ritz Carleton. It was stocked with Campbells soup, can opener, dry firewood, small wood-stove and matches. A dirty old bed with a stinky sleeping blanket. It was heaven. I hunkered down for 2 days riding out the blizzard. I wrote a thank you note when I left and retuned in the spring to replenish what was taken. We take care of others in north. Rich or poor, old religious views or modern agnostic, educated white collar or regular Joe blue collar, wisely vaxed or unwise non-vaxed, liberal or conservative. It doesn’t matter. We help one another. Be kind to one another. The unwritten Canadian code. 🇨🇦

Regardless of coldness outside and many little cracks in the house you try to keep warm in it. You make repairs, take care of house, fixing and improving it as you can. Such abandoned log cabins necessary for any occasion in life. You brought your part , so that others to which it will be necessary could survive from winter's frost. Peaceful and prosperous New Year.

And what tells you that this place is abandoned? Don't you think that someone is paying property tax on it, someone owns it? I don't understand why people think that just because no one is in the cabin at this very moment that it's abandoned. Maybe the owner only comes up in the Fall or Spring of the year and dislikes winter. Unless you know who owns the land and the cabin you should get your behind out of there, it isn't YOURS!! They call it trespassing where I come from.

It certainly does not look like anyone has lived in it in quite a while... perhaps people have camped in it or used it as a refuge in a blizzard, etc. Unless it is owned by the meanest old curmudgeon in the world, I seriously doubt anyone (other than you) would object to someone using it in an emergency... especially since this guy is making some basic improvements.

A guest with integrity, always leaves a place they use for shelter BETTER than when they came. That is how I was raised. Why not make it just a little more snug, tidy up a bit, do small but important fixes. Then leave behind some tea, some sugar or soup packets. It's called respectful courtesy for anyone here wanting to know why he is doing what he is.

Helping others to survive in this tiny log cabin while fighting the elements is torturous, but this gentleman is trying to make things easier for the next person or family. I've already learned a couple smart things from you... Putting the rocks on the stove for extra heat brilliant idea and the way you cut the piece of wood to make like kindling like but it's still stuck on the wood that was brilliant I hope to never forget that trick... I've never ever seen anybody do that they always just make separate kindling but the way you did it was totally brilliant

I found your channel by accident and enjoyed the simplicity and peacefulness of this video. Then I noticed the flag on the cabin and shared it on a forum where I have made several friends in Ukraine. Two live in Kyiv, and I'm sure they could use a 24 minute distraction from what they have endured for almost a year.
