Well, they maybe should have set up the camera angles so that they wouldn't show the very well worn trails and clean "porch" at the cabin! If it's an "abandoned" cabin, it's only been abandoned for one or two days!

I think cabins far out into the woods like that are pretty safe from vandalism. Generally, people who hike difficult locations like that are not a bunch of drugged up layabouts who get pleasure out of destroying other people's property. They're more likely to be like this guy - he stayed in the cabin but he cleaned and repaired while he was there. He obviously appreciated staying there and was very careful to leave it the way he found it - actually, he left it BETTER than he found it!

The snow is all compressed were someone was walking on it and the path go to the cabin. Also the snow has been cleared from in front of the door and on the structure to the left of the door. The roof above the door is missing so the snow should be very deep in front of the door. The path to the creek sure looks well worn. Also by the looks of the things this guy has in his pack he has been here before and knew what he needed to take to the cabin. This is planed for the video.

If someone (found )my cabin and moved in, well, they would never do that again. That cabin is not abandoned just currently unused by owner.
Having said that in Alaska most of us old timers
leave the cabin unlocked in case someone gets caught in bad weather and needs shelter or a (good) neighbor needs something.
The whole Video was a staged event. There were tracks to the cabin and no snow in front of the door.
You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all the people all the time.

Volunteer search and rescue I used to do that in mine but one got robbed and trashed the other got cleaned out both after bad elements and "survivalists" moved into the areas and the good people moved out to get away from them. We made sheds with four bunks each food water woodstove etc for hikers in fire consequences. Every one of them hot trashed robbed and few burned. Having grown up in rural Kansas on a farm that behavior was shocking to me.

      and even better fitting scripture

I loved watching you fix the roof on the porch by yourself. That took some serious ingenuity. I don't much care whether this cabin was "abandoned" or not. No one was there when you got there so at least temporarily it was abandoned. Also, I didn't see a lot of belongings that would make me think someone was living there and had just gone away for a few days. To me it appeared to be empty. And if someone WAS living there, I hope their trip would include their stopping by a store somewhere and purchasing a few cleaning supplies. A broom would be a good place to start.

    • @2ndhandSue
      @2ndhandSue 2 года назад +4

They had a broom already there. A very ingenious broom made from some kind of dried grass. It worked very well, and who wants to climb the mountain trails involved while they're carrying a 6-foot wooden-handled house from? The broom made from grasses and tree sticks did the job perfectly well.

I was wondering about the snow being shoveled from the front of the cabin all the way to the creek and to the right of the door. Maybe the owner didn't want "things fixed" and hangers put on the wall. It was nice to be swept. I don't think it was bad to use the cabin for a few hours or overnight, but it is not an abandoned cabin.

It must have been abandoned a few days ago. Leftovers from a loaf of bread still white, snow cleared even to the stream it’s always nice scenery and he cooks great food. Everything he has in his bag is amazing, like he knew what he needed. Still like his videos, like the shelters he builds himself better.

Everyone goes hiking with tools in their back pack, especially a drill. Snow was cleared away from the doorway.
The cabin had no cobwebs or any sign of being abandoned at all, too clean inside.

To be fair he did not say when he found it, just that he did and now he is back to fix it up a bit. My husband and a friend found an abandoned cabin... took them a year of periodic visits before they went out with tools and an airtight stove to get it back into useful condition. Porcupines, pack rats and disrespectful people eventually trashed it.

Strange concept in this day and age when people expect a lie and are shocked when they're actually told the truth 😳 However, I'd like to think the majority of people still expect the truth, not lies 🙄

Three screws, a coat hanger and pulled/pushed a tin sheet over a rafter hardly constitutes as a "ton of work". He could have used one screw to secure that loose board had he put the screw into the loose board. But he didn't, he put 2 screws into a completely (obviously) different bit of timber. It's good you enjoyed the video, it is a nice cabin set in what looks like a scenic spot.

People, obviously came across this cabin prior, maybe even this same day of discovery, then came back with the necessities needed for repairs. or maybe the clearing supplies were already in the home, so everything was set up for us, the viewers, to benefit from. Everyone on RUclips isn't out to deceive.
Just showing us his discovery more appropriately.

Loved this! I am assuming this was deliberately filmed by the OP. If I were the one who found this, I would check out the cabin, its surroundings, make a path for myself to follow, set up my tripods and start doing my own takes as if I came upon it just now. Discovery and the visual of it are fantastic for viewers.
Then I would use a drone to get good images of the place as B-reel shots of the property to fill in time gaps that may not have filmed so pretty. Likely I would have done this while my food was cooking and so the shots would be after I cleaned out the fire place and lit it up.
OR I would have found the place and come back on a nice day to help out with maintenance and still do all the above.
In any case, this was a wonderful video. Thanks! and Bonus: A recipe! 😁

I do a lot of hiking in the woods and I’m not about to take a portable drill and a heater unless I have a specific use for them because I wouldn’t want the extra weight. I fixed up an abandoned shack years ago and used for 25 years took a lot of trips walking in and canoeing in to get all the stuff in. Wish mine looked that good the first time I saw it. Most of these "abandoned" cabins belong to people that build their escape cabins in the woods. They aren't abandoned at all, but you are welcome to use them if you leave them as you find them. I've watched many videos of people building their little cabins and dugouts. I hope everyone will respect these properties and clean up and restock anything used. Happy cabin hunting.
