    Get a lot of questions and some think I'm lying about the temperature (no, I never have). If the title says -30, it should go without saying that that's the LOW for the trip...the temp fluctuates, of course.
    So I made a video for the top 11 FAQs I get about winter camping:
    *1) If it's so cold, why can't you see your breath?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *2) If it's so cold, why is there slush on the lake?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *3) Why aren't you melting snow for water?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *4) What is the temp inside the tent?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *5) Why winter camp at all?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *6) Why aren't you wearing snowshoes?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *7) How do you poop when it's that cold?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *8) Aren't you worried about carbon monoxide from the stove?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *9) Aren't you afraid of animals attacking you? Where's your gun?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html8
    *10) How you you power your devices?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    *11) Why don't you use a floor?* ruclips.net/video/a_nrGUte8dM/видео.html
    Hope it helps clear some things up.

      -30 up North in winter? Why would anyone think that? I've been in -40 running the Trans Can on many occasions. Slush on the lake, poop when cold, all question from people below the 45th.

    Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good ruclips.net/user/postUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.

      Canadian have to have good Outdoor stoves cookers. Heaters..the way that PM is taxing Canadians They might ALL BE LIVING in the woods.. till he taxes the cookers at exorbitant prices because the trees are Canadian property.. FJB from the USA..and FJT.. above ... BTW.. I had to pause the vid to see the temp yours says -20* but NO F/ Celsius.. ! And that draft baffler looked exceptional especially looking at heat/flame blowing straight up at 16:40 ans second view 3rd looked like a catalyst converter slowing it down.. MORE ON YOUR TXT Device!! USA has OnSpot..and another ..I actually think I will get that for This purpose..!! 3 weeks in AK bear hunting WAS amazing, NO AM/ FM Static..No Signal I know a SSW Portable is also NOW required. Or Sat ph but that's expensive
      What was your tent temperature? Like the stove- who is it. ? How much. WITHOUT a doubt.. a Shotgun/ survival rifle. 22 S/L/ LR is required
      Thanks. Very interesting.

    Wolves and lynx tracks can be told apart easiest by claw indents. If there are claws, it's a wolf, if there aren't, it's a lynx. A little harder way is by overall shape, lynx are somewhat circular, wolves have an almost triangle shape toe to pad. Tracks looked to me like lynx tracks. Loved the video. Miss my old camping days, way too old for it now.

  • @LostLakes
    @LostLakes  2 года назад +7

    I don't recall seeing any claws in the tracks so I'm leaning toward lynx but let me know what you think.

    • @tedschintz3093
      @tedschintz3093 2 года назад +3

      Tracks are in a diagonal pattern, with direct register, as both wolves and lynx tracks often are. The paw print, however, is quite round and there is a leading toe. These are cat characteristics. The interdigital space is more of a "C" shape, compared to the “X” shape of a wolf. If you imagine the tracks in the snow from the other direction, then you can see the shape of an ice cream cone. Again, pointing toward lynx. The track width of about 10 cm and the straddle width of about 20 cm, as estimated by comparing to the width of the snowshoe, are reasonable for lynx tracks.

I've been winter camping for over 25 years and I know what works and doesn't. This is the best stove that I have ever used, period. Quality is very impressive. That baffle is a game changer. @@LostLakes Would be interesting to know how long the new stove burns without replenishing, and compare outside temperature to inside temperature when it's burning at different levels of output- i.e. full burn, to banked down for the night for extended burn... of course, I MIGHT be a little analytical- but maybe others want to know how it performs...?

    Sometimes here in Wyoming during the winters I love to camp up in the local mountain. Last winter it was -35F at one point. Very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. However it's also very rewarding once you are done.
    Mr. Heater Buddy is what I used. Keep a bottle of propane in your sleeping bag for when it gets too cold you the gas still works fine. Also please make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm. Will save your life. For extra safety if you live in bear country think of something to protect yourself with. Most predators would love a good meal in the middle of winter so don't become one.

      Growing up in Detroit, some friends and decided it was much more convenient to camp in the winter, no mosquitoes, no need for tents, which always get wet and of course no crowds. Camped in Northern Michigan at -25, biggest consideration was keeping the beer from freezing.

    The new stove is awesome 👌 Nice little clearing you found, lot of protection from the strong winds. I use the Canawick hardwood logs from Canadian Tire, you get 4 bricks in a bag for $5.00. I'll throw in 2 or 3 before bedtime and they will burn for about 5 to 6 hours with dampner slightly closed. They throw off some nice heat. I have the Bereg UP hot tent with insulated underpad and medium stove. I use the tent sometimes for ice fishing. The underpad has 2 cutouts for fishing also comes with screw ice pegs. Tent is designed for harsh winter climates in Siberia -50c to -60c. Very well constructed with high grade aviation aluminum to last a lifetime. The tent comes in at 51 lbs and stove 20 lbs,you aint backpacking with this tent and stove..haha. By far it's the best tent I ever owned, better than my Snowtrekker. Thanks for the share 👊💥🇨🇦💥👊
