Hello. It's time to sum up. The bathhouse is ready and finally bathed in it. However, you need to start with something else. This time I was in the skin of a chimney sweep. I cleaned the chimney, cleaned the furnace body and removed all the ash from the ash pan. Traction has definitely improved! It beautiful The next stage of the work was to chop more wood, because today I have two stoves! One is a stationary brick oven, the second is a camping stove. So with the help of the second furnace, I heated the bathhouse today. A bathhouse? Hardly, more like a sauna. In any case, she scored her 78 degrees Celsius and pleased me. Now I'm as clean as ever. I was also pleased and surprised at the same time by the weather! It changed several times during the day. While I was walking to the dugout, the sun was shining, it became cloudy in the forest, then the sun again, then a snow curtain with a hurricane wind, then the sun again, then a blizzard again) Look and you will be surprised that this happens at the end of March. In general, I had a great time and I wish you at least a little to feel the range of feelings that I felt. Enjoy watching!

So, Alex, grandpa age here 78, it is so interesting to watch your daily life and activities. If I had a grandson, I would want him to be just like you! Even though you have not said a word, I feel an attachment to you, a bond, an affection for 'a grandson' I wish you the very best! I have a log home on the West Coast of the USA, I love living in the country and a couple acres and out of town! Quiet and peaceful! I hope I never have to live in town again! Your the best Alex!

Just knowing that one has a fairly well-concealed shelter (a pretty significant, semi-permanent, cozy, roomy shelter, far from civilization) which one can run to if necessary - if some misfortune falls - loss of job, economic collapse, an invasion, what-have-you -- that's got to create some peace of mind. ;)

When you went outside and placed your hand over the chimney, feeling how blistering hot it felt, keep that in mind when next designing your chimney/exhaust. The more twists and turns INSIDE the home or even the walls, or even inside the stove itself, that the out going smoke makes on its journey out, is more time that energy is exchanged and hot air is placed inside your home. That heat you feel is energy from the logs you're burning which is being wasted, up out into the surrounding air. If you want to be fancy, try doing this one thing I did a few winters back, testing out a hot water system. Near the stove pipe chimney was my "wash basin", and above it i had a plastic water jug, 5 gallons. I had come across some copper piping, which I packed inside with sand, and once it was densely packed with sand, began to slowly bend the copper piping around a template, of the chimney, which was a custom lazy swirl job, around the cabin/sleeping area, which provided much opportunity for the heat to emanate. After cleaning out the sand/dirt from the copper piping i properly cleaned it and set it up, wound, around the exhaust/chimney. As the water poured down the copper, from a 5 gallon container holding cold clean water, it would transfer heat into it as it made its way to the "tap" opening. And that was my hot water. It was a bit finicky at times and when the entire system was warmed up, the outputting water was a bit TOO hot at times... but, the hot water allowed me to fill some hot water bladders, which would go into th3 foot of my bed, giving me some of the warmest and deepest sleeps I EVER had come upon me! Best of luck in your adventures!

This dugout cabin is the coolest thing I've seen in a while! I would love to build one like it. It's a very Thoreauesque retreat, although I don't think Ol' Henry had a sauna at Walden! Also, I'm slightly over 6 feet tall, so I'd have to make it a little higher and wider. I'd also want at least five rooms....INCLUDING a sauna! That's a lot of digging and wood!!

Living in society in your own house is FAR from being trap. Don't be fooled by illusions of wilderness life. This guy with his dugout is still 100% relying on the civilized world to survive and get any types of goods to sustain himself. Be happy that you have a roof over your head and the living conditions that you have, because humans living in TRUE wilderness, in other parts of the world, would love the safety, comfort and abundance of your situation. @@alexfiftyfour The tarp isn't going to completely stop water if it does start flooding. Even if the walls and floor were completely sealed, standing water would still come in through the front door.
It's probably more about picking the right spot where the ground and weather are in a way that it doesn't flood in the first place.
Actual houses use gravel and drainage pipes to protect their cellars from flooding - but in extreme weather some cellars might still run into water problems.
