i had shin splints when i first started running 3 years ago and what helped me recover was taking ice baths (but without the ice lol). i would fill my bath tub with the coldest water possible and sit in it for 15 minutes after every run. worked wonders for me and i would recommend this to anyone!
Best video!! I probably watched 8 videos when I found this one. Very thorough and not only told me the info he demonstrates it in the video as well! Plus there was several good points of humor!
A lot of the time when people think they have shin splints they actually have a vitamin D deficiency. I went to the doctor for ages being told that I had shin splints before being diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency.

Hello guys, I have had compartment syndrome in the shins for 10 years. Sinds I was 12 years old I could not run, play soccer, jump, ride my bike for half an hour, or walk longer than 5 minutes. Even the 5 minutes were painfull. I have done a lot of research about how I could possably fix this and prevent to have it again. It became my life goal. I have had a lot of physical therapie and special insoles for my shoes. None of that worked. I have had 2 surgeries on both my shins. Both fascias are cut open because they were too tight around the muscle and my shin muscles have more space to move and grow. Now at age 22 im starting sports again. Mostly working on the strength and the agility of the calves, hip flexors, glutes. I also started running again, this time with the forefoot stride. I also switched from running shoes, using the nike free now instead of a pair with big heel and arch support. I can say from experience that you can recover from injuries like this. With or without surgery. A lot of therapists focus on only the calves and the shoes. But like this man in this video says, work on the glutes and hipflexors too. You need the flexibility for a full range of motion so the muscles can absorb the impact of running to their maximum. Also I experienced a lot of pain in the heels and the rest of my feet. I am not a fan of arch-supported shoes. Because I have the theory that when your foot is not strong enough to make your form as it is supposed to be, you have to make it stronger by yourself instead of supporting it and let it work even less. I fixed this by starting climbing sports, like wall climbing and bouldering. My feet were getting stronger every month and the pain was gone in a year. I am still fixing my form. But at least the pain is gone now. I shared my experience because I know how it feels like to have this kind of injury. And I want to let people know that it is possible to fix. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I would be happy to share my knowledge to help others out. Have a good day.

honestly it sucks because a lot of people say that u need to try going at a different/slower pace and try a new exercise but i’m in a camp training for cross country and the coach makes us do what he wants us to do. we can’t start doing our own run at our own pace and he doesn’t let us stop if we’re in pain. i hope this video will help lol. my shin splints are so bad rn.
That's the worst when you're in a situation where you're forced to run. Rest up during the off season! Try to ice and stretch as mich as you can during your training to manage the pain. I wish you the best in your recovery y friend!
Thank you. Much needed information. I am new runner and I experienced severe pain just below my knees and checked with doc. Thankfully all is well. But this video has information on how to prevent and heal and other running techniques. Thank you so much for sharing this.
that is me at 3:14 on every run these days. Happens exactly at 2 miles. After i stretch the front muscles can easily go on for 2 more miles with no pain.
My teen is struggling w/pain at the muscle you speak of at 1:14-1:38 for (3) wks after he got kicked there during a football game and no dr. knows what it is smh. Pls point me in the direction for some much needed pain relief and sanity for all of us🙏🏽
i enjoyed the video. it sums up everything i have already learnt about shin splints looking elsewhere i changed my style to midfoot a while ago. im working harder to strengthen my body but easily get lazy when it comes to the hip workouts.
+Nathan Williams Thank you! Glad to hear you're doing better! One step at a time. I went through shin splints, and it took me a whole year to recovery. There's a lot you can do, and it's a slow process, but you'll get there 😀 Keep it up!
Aztec Athletics hey so I’ve had shin splints for a little less than 4 months and I’ve been on a 4 week break from running but my pain still persists. I’ve tried foam rolling, icing, compression sleeves, orthotics and I have pt but nothing seems to be working. I also take epsom salt baths pretty often. Do you have any tips to getting better since my cross country season is in about 2 weeks? Also the pain is in the inside part of my shin and it’s a pain in the bone.
I'm not a runner in fact I just got back to being able to walk for small distances and I've had a lot of pain in my shins at the top part of my calf exterior. This video was really informative and lots of fun! You have a great sense of humor and a lot of knowledge and I really appreciate you sharing that with everybody. All the best in 2019!

hmm i thought i was having shin splints but maybe my anterior muscle is just weak af.. only my left leg has pain as well. no pain in the front or on the inside, just the outside muscle burns after a couple miles. Proper stretching and running posture has greatly improved my ability to run for longer and it really feels like im getting rid of the pain for good. Also ive stopped running on asphalt or pavement and stick to grass or dirt trails.
Nice! Glad to hear you're doing better 😁 Cement and asphalt always hurt my knees after a few miles. It's tough on the joints! Another great place I've found to run on is high school/college tracks. They're softer and great for speed workouts. Not so much for long runs...it gets boring after a couple of left turns lol. Keep it up champ!
It’s crazy, I’ve been running for 3 months and all of a sudden my shin start to hurt. Sometimes it hurts and other times it doesn’t and it doesn’t come back until 2 weeks or 1
Thank u so much, I’m running track/xc in school and suffer from shin splints. I’m flat footed but I’ll go to a pediatrician next week and hope they can help me

A very decent and informative video, Kudos
🙏
Awesome tips and love seeing some of the Detroit city icons!
the only thorough video everyone else focused on one or two things you talked about.
Glad you enjoyed it and found this useful😁
honestly it sucks because a lot of people say that u need to try going at a different/slower pace and try a new exercise but i’m in a camp training for cross country and the coach makes us do what he wants us to do. we can’t start doing our own run at our own pace and he doesn’t let us stop if we’re in pain. i hope this video will help lol. my shin splints are so bad rn.
That's the worst when you're in a situation where you're forced to run. Rest up during the off season! Try to ice and stretch as mich as you can during your training to manage the pain. I wish you the best in your recovery y friend!
wow! Couldn't agree more with jack, great information. Thanks fore the video.
+Ryan Warner You're welcome and thank you for watching😁
Thank you. Much needed information. I am new runner and I experienced severe pain just below my knees and checked with doc. Thankfully all is well. But this video has information on how to prevent and heal and other running techniques. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Stay strong💪😊
When
that is me at 3:14 on every run these days.
Pls point me in the direction for some much needed pain relief and sanity for all of us🙏🏽
this video is so useful that I wish I could like it twice!
i enjoyed the video. it sums up everything i have already learnt about shin splints looking elsewhere i changed my style to midfoot a while ago. im working harder to strengthen my body but easily get lazy when it comes to the hip workouts.
+Nathan Williams Thank you! Glad to hear you're doing better! One step at a time. I went through shin splints, and it took me a whole year to recovery. There's a lot you can do, and it's a slow process, but you'll get there 😀 Keep it up!
Wonderful art of presentation..great content
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Just found you on my feed. Great video and comically informative...JUST SUBSCRIBED!
💪😎👌
Aztec Athletics hey so I’ve had shin splints for a little less than 4 months and I’ve been on a 4 week break from running but my pain still persists. I’ve tried foam rolling, icing, compression sleeves, orthotics and I have pt but nothing seems to be working. I also take epsom salt baths pretty often. Do you have any tips to getting better since my cross country season is in about 2 weeks? Also the pain is in the inside part of my shin and it’s a pain in the bone.
amazing video. Very informative and helpful and exciting. Kudos, man!
😁😁😁😁😁
I'm not a runner in fact I just got back to being able to walk for small distances and I've had a lot of pain in my shins at the top part of my calf exterior. This video was really informative and lots of fun! You have a great sense of humor and a lot of knowledge and I really appreciate you sharing that with everybody. All the best in 2019!
Best video about Shin Splints! Thanks a lot!
+Nicolas Domeniconi Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful😁 Here is my latest video on shin splints:

I think you'll enjoy it as well👌
hmm i thought i was having shin splints but maybe my anterior muscle is just weak af.. only my left leg has pain as well. no pain in the front or on the inside, just the outside muscle burns after a couple miles.
Hey! I’m in Detroit too
313 Shout out😎
It’s crazy, I’ve been running for 3 months and all of a sudden my shin start to hurt. Sometimes it hurts and other times it doesn’t and it doesn’t come back until 2 weeks or 1
Thank u so much, I’m running track/xc in school and suffer from shin splints. I’m flat footed but I’ll go to a pediatrician next week and hope they can help me
Thank you man, this was really helpful and well explained!
+Martin Raaen Eidissen Your welcome! Thank you for watching and dropping a comment 😊
