Thank you brother for reinspiring me. I am 50 I have stopped running for the last 10 years. I started running when I was 9 years old I ran cross country all through high school and beyond. I used to double back I would run to work and back home and still ram later on that day. I was a marathon. I used to run 2 miles under 8 minutes. Plantar fasciitis, runners' knee.I, bial band (ITB) syndrome, achilles tendonitis, shin splints. These types of injuries have scared me from running. My my last run was the Marine Corps Marathon. I run 7 days a week. Monday, I start with 10 minutes then build my way up to 30 minutes as the week progresses. I also do a lot of resistance exercises to help build some lean muscle and burn calories. These tips really helped me run with more ease, and my body feels much lighter now! Thank you
You CAN run 1 mile. Just do it. You have to start off small then build on it. Try running that 1 mile, stop as many times as you need to catch you breathe. Then set a goal to run that 1 mile without stopping. Add a mile to it a week later. So now your running 2 miles. You will get a runners high at almost 2 miles, mine kicks in at 1.5 to 1.75 miles into a run. Then you are hooked. It is way easier to add miles to your run, control your breathing, this si the key.
I’m a big guy, 260lbs, I’ve always been into weights and lifting and I bench 365lbs but back in June I got into running and could barely run a quarter mile without being gassed. I was a fat shit and out of shape. Now it’s January and I’ve been off and on mostly on some months but I’m doing 3 mile runs now in decent 10 minute mile times. I know some people can do this so easily but it’s awesome seeing my progression back in the summer. Videos like this really help and I can’t wait till I’m running 6 or 7+ miles at a time
1:16 - First 1 minute every mile breathe through Nose 2:46 - Finding Natural Cadence - when you feel slow almost end of your run goal use Cadence app. 3:08 - Air squats and Leg Swings per mile halfway the run. 10 AS/10LS interchangeable.
I want say thank you. After watching your video. I did everything you said about breathing and pacing myself. I went from barely able to do 1 lap jogging to doing 12 laps. Now, I am actually running 14 laps around the park. This have been a lifetime goal of mine to be able run none stop for at least a mile. Yesterday, I did 3.6 miles. I tried for so many years, but always failed. I did it your help within 2 weeks. Thank you.
Also, I have always used timing my breath to a foot fall. Example, every third time my left foot hits the ground I breathe in. Breathe out to match the timing. Set your own timing based on right/left dominance and cadence. The breathing timed like that creates a bit of a hypnotic effect and allows me to run much more distance with less effort.
I can not help guessing a conditions without finishing the video. By the nose, the way breathing seems in the enviornment that is cold, dry, high air pressure, may also be plenty of oxygen. when someone at where hot, wet, low air pressure, perhaps less oxygen, breathing with open mouth should be a easy way.
At first i was getting tired as fuck after 5 minutes, now after a couple of months of practicing at the treadmill i can run 5 kilometers in 30 minutes at once, proud of myself even if it's not that impressive because it's on a flat treadmill and some people can run 10 or 20 outside.
You can teach an old dog a new trick. I've been running for about 40 years, 233 marathons, countless shorter races and I never knew or employed these particular techniques. Very interesting. Thanks.
Running cured my depression, all at the same time, it made me feel free, strong, resilient and motivated. Sometimes I fall off for a few weeks and don't perform as well when I feel down I know I need to reach for my sneakers to pull myself back up.
Running is the key to a happy life, these videos are a good tool for beginners. In November 2007 I was on a life support machine after a serious accident. In mid Jan 08 I started jogging for the first time ever, to help speed up recovery.. “From here to the next tree, or lamp post” and so on, stop / start until I could do 20 mins without stopping. Then mid February 2008 I joined a running club. July 2010 I won a half marathon on (one of) the hilliest courses in Ireland!. Key to success. Starting at 20secs Move up to 20mins, eventually 20 miles! Two key words for any beginners to Remember.. Perseverance and consistency.
I'm so happy I re-established a connection with my diaphragm after watching this. We've been growing apart lately and this video helped me realize that. Bless you.
very very useful video on running. let me introduce myself. am 35 yrs old mom of 2 kids through c-section. never been an athlete or ran in my entire life. but 3 weeks ago i started running./jogging training for my first 5k in my life. the training is going on very well. but i get too tired very quickly. today i applied the techniques shared in this video. it definitely helped me run longer than the usual. i breathed through my nose for the first 1 minute and did squats after each kilometer. its totally worth it.
I run my 1st 15k on sunday and i had to drive 30m to go to a place called Guincho in Sintra, Portugal. instagram.com/p/BQ-uQs4jHhi/ also a nice place and plain. :)
One day I saw this video by chance and decided to try these tips despite never running before. Now I’m a dedicated club runner and this video has changed my life. Thank you very much ❤
Slow down. You should be able to carry a conversation, otherwise your pace is too fast. Speed work should be only once or twice a week in distance running
My gym class is training us to run the track for a mile (walking the curve and running the straight part) and my goal by the end of the school year is to be able to run a mile without my asthma getting in the way. Thank you so much for this!
Thanks for posting this video. Watched it last night along with the other running tips for beginners. Ran my first 2.5 miles without stopping today. I’ve only been able to run 1/2 mile nonstop till now 🙌🏾 I’m gassed 😂 *runners high*
Been doing metronome training this year and it has paid off. I started at 85 (170) and am currently up to 88. Goal is 90 (180). Keeps me going longer and more consistent.
My record for long running is 14.3 miles in 2 hours and 14 minutes, I combine more styles of breathing and running to keep myself with enough stamina to go further.
@@adampruitt9211 yes, every time, this year I was 5 times out for running, longest run was 1 hour and 50 minutes without pause time, overall 2 hours and some minutes, still ok, 6 years of smoking and my lungs are going strong, about music, most of the time brutal dubstep, electronic music, it works like a psystimulant to me, rock ot's good to, only brutal songs. I really want to quit smoking... I'm in progress, no more than 10 a day, hope it happens soon, maybe I'll run longer, I mean, that's for sure. Good luck man, and don't run more than 2 hours and 30 minutes a week, not good for ypur bones, muscle, hormons, heart. Try sometimes with energy drinks, sometimes with coffe, sometimes with natural fruit juice, made by yourself, and drink a lot of water to have a more liquid blood, it's like the oil of a car, eat more eggs to clean it from bad fats. High density lipoproteins are the good fats.
There's only a couple of things that count, run consistently, 5-6 times a week, varied training/running, long, short, fast, hill, earmark one long run each week (20k up to 35k closer to marathon), start these runs slower, build up during, finish quicker. Train specifically for and run marathons, not too many each year, say 2 ideal, 3 max, anymore you just become a plodder. Also a couple of half marathons.
Totally agree. People don't progress in running because its all about consistency. If your not on your feet at least 4 days a week consisting of varied workouts, you simply will not gain the endurance in your cardiovascular system or the structural support in your musculoskeletal.
Jim Wilson Can't claim to be an elite runner or anything but I run a lot and this is some really sound advice. I would add that taking care of your body after demanding runs is underrated. Stretching/yoga/foam roll, whatever works to combat the inevitable tightness and soreness.
"How to run longer" It helps me greatly to forget what time I started running and simply just make up whatever new time. There are mornings I started running before I even got out of bed. This mindset also helps with my "eat only once a day diet". I have been progressing fantastically.
Fusion Fitness I always loose my pace realizing my body wants to stop but I have to keep going, because our wrestling coach is pushing us, and we only get two water breaks for two minutes, in a 3 and a half hours. I am not aloud run but sprint, any tips?
I agree Getting your rhythm and breathing helps with getting your stamina down think you have to accomplish that first you’re absolutely right I think that’s one of the first things he talks about
This is glorious, been searching for "basic running form" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Hiymelia Ziyddison Scheme - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.
So I know it's a bit late but here's what I did to get up to longer distances: 3-2 inhale exhale nose to mouth on the footsteps, taking a deep deep breath in to start and engaging my core, spending 2 hours a day on the treadmill at the gym. The 2 hours has gone down over time as I'm feeling more confident about my running and wanted to incorporate other exercises
Started running again last week after a 6 month hiatus. I am stopping these periods of taking breaks because just harder getting back into the groove. I miss those 45 minute and 1 hour runs.... just clears your mind & lowers stress. I'm not there yet though. Only lasting about 25 mins right now. Can't wait until a month or two from now when stamina level really starts going back up.
So it's okay to stop while running at a good pace to do those squats!?!? I'm always scared to stop cause ill just break down after i stop so I just keep going till im done 🏃🏽
Thank you so much for this video! I applied tip #3 last Sunday and it made possible my best race experience (half marathon + fastest time yet + top 30 on scoreboard), up to date!! Thank you so much! These tips *truly* work!! ❤
When you’re starting do what you’re comfortable with but push yourself slightly. That way you gradually increase your progress. Most importantly have fun!
Did a 10km hill run yesterday and stopped every 10mins to do the alternating air squats and leg swings. Was great...one because I new I had a break coming 😆 and two because it really helped to reset things. Thanks for the tip!

7 day ay
You should prob have rest days and active recovery if you’re weight lifting and running
"Let's say I'm running 20 miles" wtf dude I can't even run 1 😂😭😂
Carly Stanley , my Case too, Gal.
Carly Stanley keep at it, I'm 48 just started running a year ago and I'm up to over 2miles
Shawn Brodrick I'm already over 1 mile just from running 5 days a week for about 2 weeks! It definitely just takes practice!
Carly Stanley kid
I’m a big guy, 260lbs, I’ve always been into weights and lifting and I bench 365lbs but back in June I got into running and could barely run a quarter mile without being gassed. I was a fat shit and out of shape. Now it’s January and I’ve been off and on mostly on some months but I’m doing 3 mile runs now in decent 10 minute mile times. I know some people can do this so easily but it’s awesome seeing my progression back in the summer. Videos like this really help and I can’t wait till I’m running 6 or 7+ miles at a time
I can imagine how tired the camera man must be. 😂😂
The camera man is probably on a bike

I want say thank you. After watching your video. I did everything you said about breathing and pacing myself. I went from barely able to do 1 lap jogging to doing 12 laps. Now, I am actually running 14 laps around the park. This have been a lifetime goal of mine to be able run none stop for at least a mile. Yesterday, I did 3.6 miles. I tried for so many years, but always failed. I did it your help within 2 weeks. Thank you.
Amazing!
Inspiring
Also, I have always used timing my breath to a foot fall. Example, every third time my left foot hits the ground I breathe in. Breathe out to match the timing. Set your own timing based on right/left dominance and cadence. The breathing timed like that creates a bit of a hypnotic effect and allows me to run much more distance with less effort.
This was the comment i have been looking for.

The sky looking amazing the whole time😂

I’m sure I’m not the only one watching these at the last minute before a running test at school

conditions without finishing the video. By the nose, the way breathing seems in the enviornment that is cold, dry, high air pressure, may also be plenty of oxygen. when someone at where hot, wet, low air pressure, perhaps less oxygen, breathing with open mouth should be a easy way.
That sounds fantastic. I'm a noob and can barely run 1.5 km at a stretch without running out of breath. How do you Dunhill your breathing?
At first i was getting tired as fuck after 5 minutes, now after a couple of months of practicing at the treadmill i can run 5 kilometers in 30 minutes at once, proud of myself even if it's not that impressive because it's on a flat treadmill and some people can run 10 or 20 outside.
I like your profile pic dude
It looks like something that bob ross would paint
I went for a 10k yesterday after watching this. Felt so good i ended up running a halfmarathon. Thank you!

You can teach an old dog a new trick. I've been running for about 40 years, 233 marathons, countless shorter races and I never knew or employed these particular techniques. Very interesting. Thanks.

Running cured my depression, all at the same time, it made me feel free, strong, resilient and motivated. Sometimes I fall off for a few weeks and don't perform as well when I feel down I know I need to reach for my sneakers to pull myself back up.
how about that camera guy keeping up without heavy breathing
I think he's on a bicycle
he's on steroids

Running is the key to a happy life, these videos are a good tool for beginners.
In November 2007 I was on a life support machine after a serious accident.
In mid Jan 08 I started jogging for the first time ever, to help speed up recovery.. “From here to the next tree, or lamp post” and so on, stop / start until I could do 20 mins without stopping.
Then mid February 2008 I joined a running club.
July 2010 I won a half marathon on (one of) the hilliest courses in Ireland!.
Key to success.
Starting at 20secs
Move up to 20mins, eventually 20 miles!
Two key words for any beginners to Remember.. Perseverance and consistency.

I'm so happy I re-established a connection with my diaphragm after watching this. We've been growing apart lately and this video helped me realize that. Bless you.
Todd Wilhoit lol
I'm happy for you ! Did ya'll get together ? I suggest making memories, hang out at parks or cafés.
This man talks while running, yet sounds so relaxed as if he doesn’t need to breathe
Fr an experienced runner for sure
very very useful video on running. let me introduce myself. am 35 yrs old mom of 2 kids through c-section. never been an athlete or ran in my entire life. but 3 weeks ago i started running./jogging training for my first 5k in my life. the training is going on very well. but i get too tired very quickly. today i applied the techniques shared in this video. it definitely helped me run longer than the usual. i breathed through my nose for the first 1 minute and did squats after each kilometer. its totally worth it.
Awesome!!
Man i wish i had a place near home to run tike that!
Pretty beautiful, huh?!
I run my 1st 15k on sunday and i had to drive 30m to go to a place called Guincho in Sintra, Portugal. instagram.com/p/BQ-uQs4jHhi/ also a nice place and plain. :)

watching this 3 years ago at 300 lbs and left a comment now i’m watching it again getting ready for a marathon
Epic! Love this comment
I cant talk while i run 😂 makes me feel more tired
Slow down. You should be able to carry a conversation, otherwise your pace is too fast. Speed work should be only once or twice a week in distance running
That’s so damn funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Its also a good tip to take equal spaced strides and try to run symmetrically with each pace, preserving energy through less balancing adjustment.
My gym class is training us to run the track for a mile (walking the curve and running the straight part) and my goal by the end of the school year is to be able to run a mile without my asthma getting in the way. Thank you so much for this!

Been doing metronome training this year and it has paid off. I started at 85 (170) and am currently up to 88. Goal is 90 (180). Keeps me going longer and more consistent.

Do you listen to music while you are running? I have to listen to music while run or i will quit and give up quick music keeps me going
@@mosneguturazvan1999 Have you quit smoking yet?
True!
Jim Wilson Can't claim to be an elite runner or anything but I run a lot and this is some really sound advice. I would add that taking care of your body after demanding runs is underrated. Stretching/yoga/foam roll, whatever works to combat the inevitable tightness and soreness.
"How to run longer"
It helps me greatly to forget what time I started running and simply
just make up whatever new time. There are mornings I started running
before I even got out of bed.
This mindset also helps with my "eat only once a day diet".
I have been progressing fantastically.
Awesome scenery! what a great place to run.... I'm in kuwait stepping over trash in the streets to run! Sad face!
Pace and breathing is super important. Thx

Fusion Fitness this my challenge every day...i lose my breath every time am jogging its hard for me
4:08 that sunrise nature is awesome
So I know it's a bit late but here's what I did to get up to longer distances: 3-2 inhale exhale nose to mouth on the footsteps, taking a deep deep breath in to start and engaging my core, spending 2 hours a day on the treadmill at the gym. The 2 hours has gone down over time as I'm feeling more confident about my running and wanted to incorporate other exercises
I love that you are running throughout all the tips. And the view!! Magarrrd 😍😍😍

Absolutely ok! In fact, the stopping to reset will KEEP you from breaking down later!

Ivan Lira... I have the same problem when I run over 15 miles also cramps
Stopping means you are not continually running though...

When you’re starting do what you’re comfortable with but push yourself slightly. That way you gradually increase your progress. Most importantly have fun!
the backdrop here is spectacular omg
Did a 10km hill run yesterday and stopped every 10mins to do the alternating air squats and leg swings. Was great...one because I new I had a break coming 😆 and two because it really helped to reset things. Thanks for the tip!
what the hell is an air squat and leg swings 😭😭😭
i actually enjoy running and the pain you get from pushing yourself. it sounds weird and all but i always get lactic acidosis buildups, they hurt so bad, but running through it and feeling your legs burn and get sore the next day is the most exhilarating thing
