  • I went down to Henley-on-Thames for the annual Thames Traditional Boat Festival (that video is over on my Cruising the Cut channel) and stayed in the campervan so I made this vlog of the trip from the van perspective. The Festival includes a decent display of classic cars too, so that's what I've focused on here.
    The boats video: • 273. The Little Ships ...
    If you liked the video and wish to leave me a tip, thank you!

    Excellent car show. The typical show sin the US feature the same 1950s and 1960s lineup over and over. Rarely get to see anything older or smaller production outside of museums. That Citroen was really neat.

    I have a 1967 MG B soft top...my son bought it for me as a mothers day pressie back in 2016...I've taken it to some classic car shows..he and his father spent a couple of years fixing it..the body/chassis was in good nick, just needed work on the engine and so forth..oh, and by the way, I live in Melbourne AUS..love taking it out when the weather is good..

    I owned a 1954 MG-TF for three years when I was young....and LOVED it!! Must admit that it "nickel-and-dimed me to death" for the entire time, though. ALWAYS something going wrong and costing money to fix. Giving it up was definitely an "approach/avoidance conflict".

    A marvellous collection of classic vehicles. That 2nd VW splitty microbus with all the windows (21 I think) is nicknamed the Samba and if it is concourse could easily trade for your previous floating abode and leave them with change. Had a T2 bay fronted VW for a while, sometimes regret its sale. It had a pop top, and on one trip along a French Autoroute, it did just that while overtaking a coach. My navigator in the passenger seat dryly suggested " Dave, slow down and pull over the ladies in the back are trying out their para-gliding skills". Lots of extra lashing down required to carry on.

    A lovely antique vehicle show, that's exactly my cup of tea. Thanks for sharing! The blue car around 7:20 appears to be a 1942(ish) Plymouth Custom Deluxe. That's a neat piece of kit to have turn up at a British car show. I could be well off on the model year, since from 1942 to 1946, American automakers weren't terribly concerned with refreshing their model lines, for some reason. Hope you're doing alright in the heat wave, I'm hearing a lot about it in the news.

    Reminds me of when we camped overnight in our Reliant Robin back in the 1970s. We woke to the sounds of noisy official sounding radios from all sides. Looking out the window, all I could see was a wall of green steel that wasn't there when we went to bed. I got out to find that we were surrounded by British Army armoured vehicles. Best not park overnight near Salisbury Plain. I think the squadies had taken great delight in parking very close.

    Thing with all those early 60's 2 seat roadsters - even the B and Midget that ran into the 80's - your modern small car like an i10 would give them a run for their money and probably beat them. Aimed at different markets though.

    That little red Austin Healy. Near the start of the vlog, I actually owned one when I was about 17, back around 1972 or so my mom bought it for me for cheap back then. Red as well but with the wheel on the left as I'm in the states. Had it about two weeks, when I was on my way home from the premiere showing of 2001 a space oddessy, the brakes malfunctioned, my fault I'm afraid and I had a bit of a fender bender. Well that's what you do when your 17 right? That was the end of that car for me. Broke my heart but at least I got to see the opening of 2001. Ahh the fun years.

    I fear even this sneaky tactic of combining van videos with boating ones isn't going to sway me towards campervanning... But I did enjoy the views of the Thames and surrounding countryside. I grew up by the Thames (Thames Ditton/Walton-on-Thames) and, although I've lived away from it for a much longer time, I still think of myself as coming from that area (not that I could ever afford to move back!).

    I was interested to hear these microphones, I have to say I’m not very impressed with how compressed they sound. There’s a boxiness to them. The mic on top of the camera in stereo will always be my preferred go to for the natural spectrum sound.

    • @Vandemonium
      @Vandemonium  2 года назад +2

      Ah but of all the mini-radiomic systems available (Hollyland, Deity etc), to my ears these clearly sound the best, lowest noise etc. I spent ages watching review after review and the Rode mics were streets ahead. Bear in mind I only used them for the two interviews in the boat piece, the rest including pieces to camera was the top mic (Deity D4 Duo). The radiomic makes it much quicker and easier to interview people and more flexible with camera positioning. It’s a win as far as I’m concerned.
