As an owner of the green dial auto HydroConquest, I can say they are a fantastic watch for the money. Older than Rolex, and not a bad point about them!

The Tissot Gentleman is really a great watch, silicium, anti magnetic, 10 atm, sapphire. It used to be 5 ATM so this is a great improvement. It does what the image of what a Rolex watch was back in the 1970s, rugged, dependable, no nonsense, stainless steel, but of course much better in all respects than those watches were.

That's correct, they actually sold watches to both sides, iwc being the most prominent example. Everywhere else in europe was reduced to ashes from the war, and America couldn't change back from war production fast enough and so the American watchmakers either went out of business or went Swiss. Keep in mind the post war boom in America basically carried the entire industry in this time, no one else had money until the 60s.

Hydroconquest quartz has aluminum bezel while more costly automatic has a ceramic bezel.

Longines is in general the best swiss watch brend when it comes to value for money. Especially their Master collection complication wathces..those are insane

If money was no barrier I do love Vacherin Constantin Everest overseas. What a great watch that is and it could well be a great investment as they are limited in production numbers.

Those are definitely not "arms". They are scratch magnets.

Surprised that no Christopher ward made it into this list... They are anglo/swiss aren't they?
Anyway, in the battle.of the watches:
Round 1: Ball over B&M purely for automatic movement snobbisim (So Tom)
Round 2: FC over Certina. (So Tom again)
Round 3: Doxa over Hamilton. I like that colourful watch. (Andrew reducing distance)
Round 4: Tissot over that ML. That Tissot looks really handsome and silicone and all the trimmings. Cool. So that is the equalizer.
Round 5: that zodiac... Very interesting dial! Tom won for me this time, but it was tight.

I've had a longine quartz le classique 22 years. It's excellent , beautiful finish and glass , clasp and bracelet. The hydroconquest here is really good and every bit as good as Tudor but cheaper with special ETA movements that are that bit better for Longines. Such an under rated brand that's value for money. I like some Certina divers watches in quartz too and some Hamilton watches that offer great value. The conquest VHP is amazingly accurate to less than 5 seconds a year and it would be my choice nowadays for around £1000 new. Why buy a Omega or Rolex that's no more accurate and where you can't wear it out safely .
