    For the IWC alternative I would pick Laco. Has the same heritage of IWC/Stowa, but only cost about 300 quid for an Aachen auto.

    The Yema Superman Worldtime GMT Coke maxi dial is an absolute banger.
    Vintage look, perfect size (offered in both 39 and 41mm), in-house movement, pretty affordable and manufactured by a legendary watch maker who's also the supplier of the French Marine Nationale.

    My list..
    1. Tudor GMT Pepsi ( a cop out I know 😄)
    2. Seiko flighty
    3. Bulova lunar pilot (I have one and it's the only choice)
    4. Oris Pro pilot big crown
    5. Panzera aquamarine A-45
    Top video.. more of these definitely 👏🏻

  • @siongheeleong8078

    This was a landslide 5-0 win for Andrew. The Yema was the closest that Tom got to beating Andrew but could not. The rest were all Andrew's, especially the Sinn and the Bulova. These 2 were the most obvious budget alternatives to the Breitling Navitimer and Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch respectively.

    • @Reladan187
      @Reladan187 2 года назад +7

      I think the Yema was a victory for Tom but 4-1 for 'Drew

    • @vaclav_fejt

      Seiko Speedtimer isn't as "moonwatchy" as the other moon watch, but I'd argue it's even better than the Bulova.

    • @MrRaifeosaurus
      @MrRaifeosaurus 2 года назад +2

      As someone who has used a Navitimer in the air… Tom definitely won it. The citizen is a hot mess but at least the bezel can be moved easily. That sinn bezel is useless in the air unless you’re wearing it on your right wrist.

    • @vaclav_fejt

    Pretty funny discussion, I particularly liked the comment about the navitimer not being busy enough, and the "our story" webpage.
    This was pretty even in my opinion - Tom for the first two, Andrew for third and fourth, and the last I personally wouldn't pick either but they both bore some resemblance to the icon.

    The Sinn Navitimer, compare to pre-B01 Breitling offerings, is actually a better watch IMO. For a period Sinn produced the Navitimer with Lemania 1873 and a transparent case back, which is a beauty.

    • @TechPanzer
      @TechPanzer 2 года назад +1

      Agreed. Plus, the inner rotating bezel allows for a very precise use while also improving massively on the Navitimer's weak spot: water resistance.

    Next to Stowa for a alternative for the IWC is also the German original brand Laco. Look there as well! They offer a lot for around 1000 as well.

  • @BrittPearceWatches
    @BrittPearceWatches 2 года назад +1

    Oh YES Yema is such a strong shout! All of these watches were fantastic choices! I tended to side a bit more with Andrew 😜 BUT TOM YOU ARE GORGEOUS AND FABULOUS

  • @nerdbot37
    @nerdbot37 2 года назад +25

    I reckon this match was a draw for me. Tom and Andrew each picked three watches I would happily add to my collection (Tom: Yema, Citizen, and Seiko; Andrew: Sinn, Bulova, and Stowa), and Tom won rounds 1 and 3, while Andrew won rounds 2 and 4. The 5th round... well, I don't really care much for Panerai, so I care even less about watches that- erm... homage the look? But I will say that Seconda looks like a 60 pound watch, while that Precista also looks like a 60 pound watch but costs 755!?! For that reason, and mentioning the Avi-8 -- hate their name, but quite like their designs -- I suppose Tom just edges out a win if I had to pick one winner.

    I got to try on a Bulova Lunar Pilot last month at Wind-up Watch Fair here in Chicago. After seeing many a vlogger refer to it as too big and clunky, I had mostly written it off, but it turns out it fits and feels way less bulky than I thought. I still can't bring myself to pull the trigger because $400+ for a Bulova is $400+ that could go toward a "real" Moonwatch in a year or two...

    Breitling Navitimer --> Hamilton Khaki Aviation Converter
    Omega Speedmaster --> Bulova Lunar Pilot, have to agree with Andrew on that it's the clear winner (Bulova Chronograph C if you want more flare)

    Honestly Im only giving round 3 to Andrew at best a draw in round 5. For the Bulova Moon Watch its also worth mentioning that the quartz movement is actually based on the Accutron where it's not as accurate as a full fledged Accutron but it's still pretty close.
    Should you guys decide to find a Lange 1 cheap alternative I think the Ulysse Nardin San Marco GMT is a great option at used prices!

I knew Breitling went through some really bad times, but did not know they sold off the rights to their Navitimer, but when you're bankrupt I suppose that is just part of the deal. During a bad health issue I sold off my 3 most expensive pieces and took a beating, but that is for another time and thread. I am disappointed. You were looking for alternative for moonwatch and you ommited a Poljot! Caliber 3133, upgraded Venus chronograph, probably a first watch ever in open space, wore by Alexei Leonov. There are debates about brand he wore, it was either Raketa or Poljot but caliber was for sure 3133. It is the most used watch in soviet space program. First Czechoslovak in space wore it. It has a heritage, it is still being made, it is cheap, it looks gorgeous and it is now made in Germany, as far as I know. I am wearing one right now. However, perfectly round chronograph wheels might be optional, especially in older models.

    A great alternative to the MoonSwatch is the Yema Spacegraf ZeroG!

    GMT: Tom. Reason: Aesthetics
    Navitimer: Tom. Reason: Price
    Speedmaster: Andrew. Reason: How does Tom not know the Bulova LP is SpeedyLite? 🙄
    IWC: Andrew. Reason: Heritage
    Panerai: Andrew. Reason: Tom went waaaay too far into inexpensive.

    The Sinn Navitimer is meant to be worn on the left hand, hence the internal rotating bezel screw on the right side.

    I can't give it to Tom this time, my vote is Andrew; not Toms fault but Yema is misleading us as it says worldtime and IT ISN'T, it's just a GMT. Prospex are just getting too expensive these days imho regardless of how much I do enjoy my 3 Seikos (all prospex). And I do own both suggested replacements for Navitimer and only one of them can be a travel companion everywhere u go, without being robbed! Personally, I solved the IWC Big Pilot problem with a Sinn 556 and An Oris Big Pointer Propilot. Another viable option to solve Pilot as well as moonwatch is Sinn Flieger or if one loves moonwatch Type II with Sinn 144. However Sinn prices are also getting too high.

    The Navihawk is a great watch when it's set up and running. BUT WOE to anyone trying to set this watch (daylight savings time, etc...), it requires a PHd in Horology or a trip to the Citizen Watch Shoppe.

    I know it's a bit bigger, but why not the Bulova Lunar pilot. Yes it's quartz but very affordable. Snob away if you want...plus one(sort of simlar) was..nevermind. you just said it. Nice job
