    I doubt you'll see this comment considering how old the video is, but great job, and nice touch with the shell casing ends.

    Great little project. There's something very satisfying about making your own tools especially to such a high standard.

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  8 лет назад +1

      I have to agree! Its a great feeling when you use the tool you have made yourself. Anyone can go out and buy a tool but go ahead and build that tool yourself, well you cant beat that!

      I just started making my own tools and I must agree.Like the first fish I caught on a lure I made!

    This is very nice! I’m tempted to make one very much like this but possibly with a ball bearing on each leg, although they would crash esthetically with the brass I suppose. Have to figure out how to do the holes with sufficient precision using only a hand drill. I like the way you made the marking pin!

    Beautifully made center marker. I have a stupid suggestion - the nut should have been embedded in the pin side of the wood in order to avoid the nut popping up while pressing it on hard wood or metal. I hope you don't mind.

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you, and I would have to agree with you on the nut. It would definitely be a more solid design but I haven't had any issues with it so far!

    Nice project! Way did you cut the shells? To me they could be put in from above with the holes you drilled?

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  7 лет назад

      I cut the shells ends with a small hand saw with a metal blade on it. The first one i built i used a bullet shell, but because a lot of the tapering on the shell it didn't work out so i went with the straight brass tubing.

    I only have a pillar stand that holds electric drill n a couple hand held electric electric saws. Wonder if I could make it. Also could I use embedded coach bolts for outer studs

    Very nice. If you lower your speed on the drill press, it will not burn as bad.

    Great one! What width lumber can you use it for?

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  8 лет назад

      It depends how long you make it, this one i made is 4" long which can be used on boards up to 2 1/2" in width.

    Essentially, the centre pin must be centred on the two outer pins?

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  8 лет назад

      exactly. if there even the slightest bit off the live your scribing wont be centre. But that's not a bad thing because the first one i made was a bit off, which after scribing both sides of the board i found it was the exact width of my band saw blade so it shows me my waist when resawing.

    why did you cut the spent brass casing ,,,, from the rim and pin,,, why not cut the taper on the casing and use with the top rim and remaining casing for the outer guides , great either way ,just seems like more work

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  8 лет назад +1

      christophe leblanc The first centre gauge I made i did exactly that. I found the tapper of shell made it difficult and wobbly when using it. When I made my second one (shown in the video) I decided to use straight pins but also wanted the ends of the shell casings just for decoration. So that's what I came up with.

    • @christopheleblanc9175

      cool ,,, never thought the upper taper would of caused issues , i could see the bullet taper doing so but makes sense now ,tks

    I'm old old and found the Video quiet alright and the Music as well , it wasn't as if it was ACDC at full volume was it, just quiet relaxing background Music. I think you complainers need to get out more!

    why do you have a book press? are you into binding also?

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  7 лет назад +1

      It was passed down in the family. It was sitting in storage so i took it out and turns out its a very useful tool to have for glue ups and pressing... i guess what it was originally intended to do.

    I give you a thumbs up for your videos and tool making .... but I can not for the life of me understand why so many people make videos and in my opinion kill the videos with music that is not needed or is so loud , music I can put up with but only if it is a quieter background music about 20 percent of what your music in the video was. I wanna hear the tools making a noise. Hey my comments are not against you , but it seems everyone does it, so I must just be a grumpy old fart.

    • @JDCDDesgins
      @JDCDDesgins  7 лет назад +4

      outbackdigital I appreciate the input. I honestly would prefer no music but I want the video to be alittle more interesting and keep the viewers interested. Iv watched plenty of video with no music and I lost interest in watching, but I totally understand/ agree where your coming from, the tools are music them self! When I'm spending hours editing (with no music in the video) I get bored to tears so Thats a big reason I add the music, to spice it up abit.

    • @jaredlanny03
      @jaredlanny03 7 лет назад +4

      personally, as a fellow old fart... I enjoy having some music... particularly when there are tool sounds.... they're so hard on my ears.... There's another fellow on here that makes great tools, but he keeps the audio full blast on his power tool process... It means I need to have my hand on the volume knob the whole way through his video, turning it up when he's speaking and down when he's working. It makes HIS videos unwatchable.
      I guess, though, the important thing is to keep music "boring" and more universally acceptable (even if not enjoyed). then it can both drown out the unpleasant noises, and also not be an unpleasant noise itself.
      That's my entirely unauthoritative viewpoint....
