Ohmicide was a very powerful tool back in the day, I was using it on every synth for dubstep/dnb, then I switched to trash, saturn, now rift. I still install Ohmicide on my system for some reason, didn't use it in more than 5 years but I always believe I will use it again sometime. The gui is horrible, that's why I stopped using it.
@@mikeexits maybe the same, the gui is horrible at first, but you get the hang of it in time, I feel It is very powerful compared to the other ones just by having so many options, but also too many things to mess around with and to easily fuck up the sound with. The convolution part is still very good imo, also for actual guitar amp modeling/emulating I think it's still the best option out there. I tend to use rift or saturn 2 just because it's much more faster to do something crazy in them. I still have a lot of patches saved with trash in them and still use it in them even now.

I objectively have way too many plug-ins so I have a Notepad++ directory with all the plugin makers, all the plug-ins, and their functions (2nd part still under construction) for reference. You guys (anyone reading) might have an aneurysm if I admit how many plug-ins I have on my laptop, haha. But yeah, I tend not to buy the newest things pretty much ever (except sometimes major updates) and instead I hover around Bedroom Producer's Blog for freebies, Humble Bundle for their occasional music bundles (usually with lots of sample packs and a bunch of Cherry Audio plug-ins), and Plugin Boutique's Deals page. So I don't have much experience with either the super expensive top-end plug-ins (like Fabfilter and *allegedly* Omnisphere) or very new ones that aren't freeware. I've also paid a decent bit of money for monthly experimental plug-ins from Puremagnetik ($9/month over a couple of years) and to get all the Glitchmachines plug-ins ($10 each on sale totaling $80). All of which I have found to be enjoyable to use and useful/inspirational, not to mention fun and engaging. I'm glad I found Weaver's channel, it's kind of homely for me as far as internet content goes. That said, I moderately to strongly disagree with some of his plugin opinions. Pendulate being one (I wholeheartedly love it) but I made a comment on that already. He makes great videos.
I agree Glitchmachines UIs are terrible but they are awesome plugins. I just press randomise until it does a sound I like then dial in the wet/dry because I can't figure out how to use the bloody things. They're good as as a send effect too
If you do end up diving in and trying to learn them, they're actually surprisingly simple. Cryogen, for example, is just 3 delays, 3 bitcrushers, some LFOs and a mixer section. The spreadsheet looking page is just mapping for the LFOs. And that's basically all there is to it.
@@isweartofuckinggod One of the most rewarding ones to learn for me was Subvert. It really is a beast of a distortion/sound mangler device and can achieve really textured sounds or wacky timbre destruction. I have all their plug-ins (although 2 of them have paid 2.0 updates I have yet to get, Cryogen and Cataract); another great plugin maker to mention is Puremagnetik. Their UIs are divinely simple and beautiful. I got all their plug-ins (Glitchmachines and probably most of the Puremagnetik ones) for $10 or less each. Not bad at all.
Some of these are gold. Also for Pendulate, I never found the UI to be an issue. I just downloaded and played around with it and fell in love with the cool chaos oscillator concept and the intricate cyclical sounds you can get out of it (I make somewhat experimental psychedelic music so it's right up my alley, haha). The UI was very simple and intuitive for me to use, personally. Not even in the same world as most of these others, at least to my humble eyes and mind.
