It was AI everywhere this year
Not here 🤫
beginning of the end.
yeah it hasn't been great.
best way to sounds like shit: Ozone 11 mastering
I was gonna say the falcon 3 midi output makes it win imo- it’s honestly huge, I also liked Arturia efx motion & not sure if fragments was dropped this year but they’re both my mvps.
Honourable mention goes to airwaves who just keeps keeping on
I actually like Scaler Eq, especially for color bass, automating the frequency knob gives some great results.
i could see that, i'll have to mess with that.
I’d also give award for the DAW. The DAW that f up the biggest was bitwig. Late 2022 they f up their user agreement, backed off and offered everyone 6 month of free updates and then didn’t release a single update for 6 month. Also when finally released it they f up good working browser for the in browser shop. Yeah, bitwig completely crewed in 2023…
I wanted to but I felt like I wasn't familiar enough with all of them. The greatest improvements seem to have been made by FL, Bitwig and Cubase though.
@@WeaverbeatsI think all the major daws had updates this year. With least useful was Bitwig and most useful, oh yes, I’m going to say it, crabelton (:
That may be true, but what useful parts they've added this year are actually great. People wanted MSEGs, now Bitwig has them everywhere, from envelopes to oscillators, all compatible with each other via shape presets. Not enough to last a whole year, probably, but what they did deliver is fantastic, and I like that. It's the Bitwig way, take ages to do something but then deliver perfection.
(Except for the browser, that is. I like to imagine they hired a temp to do that piece of wonder and then it stuck).
No, reason f*d up
@@SongOfItself I absolutely glad for you liking the MSEGs. Really I happy if they are help to someone. However this took way too long to make them even if they are perfection. You see they was already in many synths and fx from 3rd party plugins for years so I moved from Bitwig native system (except grid, here they ok to me. Another thing they actually don’t have manual midi input. So MSEG envelope on master modulators is useless. All said for me it is way too late and not so important.
My list: Amek Mastering Comp, MasterPlan, Drift (as it was free), Serato Sample I agree. Flex beat? Man this was difficult 😂. ScalerEQ the biggest snake oil, the spikes are just the GUI, it’s no different to any EQ that displays the pitch of the frequency selected (FabFilter) and putting your notches where the fundamental and harmonics are, aka, EQing your spikes
I'm not a producer but I love playing with audio stuff.
That being said dealing with Waves plugins is akin to a prostate exam from a 60 year old bricklayer.
You got me wanting to try out that Minimal Audio Synth now
there's a free trial, i didnt want to give it a chance cause of the controversy tbh
Current is a good synth definitely check it out!
@@axxojaxx2510 Good looking 👌🏾
They *have* to do a sale next year, don't they? At $200 it can barely compete with Pigments or Phase Plant, when you can get those at 50% off several times a year.
@@SongOfItself Yeah, I’m not paying $200 for that
The humour on this one was *chefskiss*
He hasn’t even a T-Shirt Motive….but Boy i love this Guy 😝 Thanks for the great Show ✨🥂
thank you
I love the idea of Synplant 2, the only setback is the engine is basically the same as version 1. So, I do hope Synplant 3 the entire synthesis engine changes.
You missed Michaelgelo eq from tone projects. Best hardware emulation eq yet
haven't heard of that one i'll peep.
Woah, crazy you mention that! I work with the guy who builds the hardware. Amazing mind. You should also look up his collab w/ Moar Applebaum. They released another hardware emulator called “The Oven”. It’s very high quality! Made after his hardware EQ/Saturator that uses mosfets in analog circuit. I believe they worked with Plugin Alliance on it
Hooray, new video
should try an m4l list and then decide what is actually made bad, because it kills me how good those are getting and I still don't like ableton
Most annoying thing is youtube, when reading a comment and you click back you end up on top of the list every time again. Also I hate the autoplay shit when you are scrolling and then it puts every autoplayed shit on your watch history, so stupid 🤬
🌊😂 great video!
An*l.
Happy new year!
cherry audio pro solo is one of the best this year
Ypu need to promote your girlfriend to co-host or bring Champ Flexington or SSHTK as co-hosts.
Current is my 100% favorite this year
yeah I was surprised, the presets and stream sounds are of insane quality.
shave em
_Alexa, play “Shave It Up” by Zedd!_ 🎶
@@crnkmnky 🤣
Hold the microphone closer to your mouth next, m’kay
yeah i dropped the ball a little bit. My standing mic use needs some work.
You forget an award, "Best at providing a poorer experience for their paid customers than the pirates", obviously won by Acustica.
Acustica could win "Most Disrespect Towards Their Paying Customers", but they'd face stiff competition from that guy at the state fair with the "throw the ball in the bottle" game.
Pretty sure the biggest scam in the music industry is Spotify...
What I like about the Sonible EQs is that it provides goo starting points. I slap that on at the beginning of the chain and I let it do its thing early in the process and I build from there. I don’t “just” use it as my one eq but as a “I am lazy and want to do things faster than I otherwise could” tool
Same. It seems like their plugins use far too much CPU power for what they offer too. They don’t take away my ability to mix but, idk, they’re great for learning and as an assistant, but I can use more coloured EQ’s with the same settings that don’t assault my hardware.
Goo! Goo for you buddy!
I like those Goo plug-ins 😂
I also love the fact that Smart EQ4 encourages me to experiment. Being able to quickly tweak an eq on another track just speeds things up. The speed in which you can order what's more prominent is also great for just trying stuff out. One example I have is if you are stacking synths you could put them in a group and try different orders in a way you could never do with standard eq. It is a revelation to my workflow!
Your mom provides me "goo" starting points 😉 😂
Lmao subscriptions. Just no.
You have to put some effort in. Shave your eyebrows. Shave your girlfriends eyebrows. Swap eyebrows. Now THAT would grow this channel! 💨
Current was cool Falcon 3 would be my desert island plugin,. Think it beats out Phase Plant. And even just those two powerhouses make 2023 not such a bad year. Though it wasn't a memorable year. I liked Erica Synths Virtual Zen Delay too And props to Valhalla for adding two more algos to Supermassive. Noise Engineering quietely but steadily releasing their VSTs. Neural DSP Mateus Asato is very good. Idk, I sort of feel like have enough plugins come out now - my wish for the electronic music scene in 2024 would be for Bandcamp to live long and prosper.
8:20 He was going to say Infiltrator 2 is better 😅
worst vst plugins anything by toontracks or i.k media
Too much talking and unnecessary jokes. Get to the point.
So I tried out Smart:EQ4 last night and all it did was spin the big green wheel forever, never completing the "learning" process on any track other than the first one. Apparently not smart enough to periodically check and terminate the process if it's not completing in the max permitted time. Which btw would be a basic coding practice. Yay for AI!
u gotta try my plugins i wanna be on the list next year
send it
*1.* What's up with the goofy numerological pricing?
*2.* Who hosts your website?
moog Mariana is neat IMHO. Not revolutionary, but a really nice-sounding synth.
@@chokocat9064 Isn't it a gimmick though? Couldn't you do all that with DAW modulators anyway? (Depending on the DAW, I guess). I have some of those plugins and I like Mariana a lot, but the plugin connectability seems like they're trying to deliver the guitar pedal experience, which seems rather silly inside a DAW
"You talking to me ?" Your girlfriend was doing the scene out of the film 'Taxi driver'
You got lucky with the eyebrows haha
New to your channel, and subbed. Some may not like your delivery, but I think your no BS style gets to the point, and I believe you have a lot of integrity.
Thanks for calling out Waves. I'm still not sure whether they offer perpetual licenses. I was offered an "Update Plan" to *ensure my plugin versions are up-to-date* and the plan is good for one year. What happens next year? The only "update" I can determine is the version #. Meanwhile, the existing plugins I have have been deactivated. It's not the money, it's the principal. It's like paying off your mortgage, only for the bank to tell you, "nope, you're a renter now." Fu***** Waves. As much as I like the plugins I have from them, I'm not paying ransom $$.
Thanks for the work you do, man. I found some free plugins you covered that does EXACTLY what I wanted them to do.
Shave or save? Eyebrow edition.
Weaver, TE is a design company who designs products for Nothing (the phone) and IKEA and other companies. Their audio stuff is just promo for their design consulting services so they don’t really care if their table makes any money.
🤯 In proper perspective, it makes a lot more sense.
Honestly your videos start to be my got o videos for the morning coffee))) ❤
2024 plugin prediction: Weavetable Beats, wavetable-based drum plugin.
Also, #NotAllAIplugins
There’s one thing that I think will be revolutionary. There’s a new format called clap (clever audio plugin), the format itself is groundbreaking, but hasn’t been adopted yet.
It basically multithreads the cores in your cpu, meaning that you can have really high quality plugins that aren’t taxing on the cpu. There’s only 2 daws that support it atm tho, but it’s already being adopted by a few plugins devs and all the popular daws are looking at it to see how it progress’s.
i gotta say the v-pan plugin.. it installed TWO separate drm softwares on my PC completely silently without ever mentioning either of them. so fuck that. the ai plugins don't even count, and at least they don't install bloatware. also the 'bassline' plugin that only worked for a few days, also GOYO, just straight up wanted hdd space and time spent
VoosteQ Model N is the best for me. For 20$ I got a preamp, comp, eq and saturator, it’s a steal . Even the 100$ full price is a good value.
smart:EQ 4, smart:comp 2 and smart:limit are very good plugins.Especially since I haven't found something similar.
Props for the award show. Everytime now when I open old DAW sessions, I inevitably get reminded that I have plugins running that no longer exist in my system. I then go to my mental list (and sometimes an actual spreadsheet) of newer plugins I use in place of WAVES plugins and slot them in accordingly. And sometimes, there's a lot. It's a PITA. And THAT is how much I hate the change that WAVES made. I'll happily deal with this every time. I got rid of all of it. EFFFF THOSE GUYS. Waves Shillers can suck a [DEMONITIZED]
idk i feel likes waves fuck up was way more egregious when you take into account that their whole structure been kinda scammy for a long ass time AND thousands of people were gonna get fucked into having to sub up if they wanted to keep getting the (paid) updates for the plugins they already spent hundreds of dollars on. (not even upgrades bc they almost never add new functionality to shit, just the regular ass updates to make sure the shit won't break on newer software, updates that do not cost them extra money for real bc every software company in business always has to put those together to keep their product on the market for new customers anyway, but that waves charges for anyway bc they're greedy as shit)
It's a M4L device, not a VST, but my favorite plugin of the year is Opal by Fors (it _might_ have come out at the end of 2022 though). Super cool drum synth / virtual groove box with a really quick/easy and fun workflow. For me, the real magic is in it's sequencer... pretty sure it's my all time favorite sequencer honestly.
BTW Antares has plugs where you can see pitch vs. freq. Not a bad plan if you’re more a musician vs. engineer.
Ass dragon😂😂
I really don't think SmartEQ4 shits on Neutron. I think they're both really, really bad. They don't even differentiate nor understand the difference between an EDM-Kickdrum and a regular Acoustic kickdrum. They will always try to mix kickdrums the same way. I don't believe for a second these are even 'smart' algorithms, i.e. I don't think they even really reference the input they're given. Hell, smart-EQ can't even tell it's a kickdrum unless you tell it it is.
It's def not perfect, better than neutron imo though.
I do think you're either mostly right or completely on the mark. At best, they "train" those plugins on some (limited) inputm, and we're left to trust them that they did, like who's gonna check? Example: smart:eq4 never heard of a genre called ambient, never mind. But there's no actual AI inside of the plugin itself, that would require many, many terabytes of storage (and since it's audio data, terabytes might be the wrong order of magnitude entirely)
@@SongOfItself Does the "smart" EQ need local storage if it can access data "in the cloud"?
@@crnkmnkySo does it work offline? Either way, every time someone puts out an "AI" plugin, we have to take their word for it.
Appreciate the honesty. Transit and Life sound really cool on the surface but yeah wayyy overhyped.
RELEASE HER
You read it wrong. It was "Current apology and pricing update"
For the love of god, Weaver, stop moving the hand holding the microphone.
Also, great video.
Great Video 😂 Ozone actually fix the 100% bass width 😅
Not even a tuxedo T-shirt?
glad to provide
Its not a vst plugin (well, you can use reason as a vst plugin so technically it is) but Reason Studios Objekt Modelling Synth is one of my top plugins for this year, sounds amazing.
i forgot about this one, i should try it out it seems really cool.
I really want to grab this one eventually, physical modeling slaps
its def amazing. Cant wait to see what else Reason drops on the new year.
Congratulations! 🎉👏😀 Here's to a new year with the massive hater crew.
I love your cynical humor, it's great man. much love Weaver! !
Fucking subpac still hasn’t come out 🤣
I'm telling you 2042 is the year.
@@Weaverbeats maybe if they sell more subpacs now to pay off their manufacturers in China it could be possible to hit your generous timeline
Izotope is just meh at best recently.
yeah i feel like they've hit a wall
PLS SUB SO HE SHAVES HIS EYEBROWS AT 50K
Runner up for biggest blunder: Bitwig and their renegging on their user agreement
Yeah that was bad just didn't feel like it was as bad as waves or minimal.
You missed music hack master plan, dope new limiter
heard about it never got a chance to check it out. seems aight.
Let's go!
Random by beatsurfers is my fav this year.
Best blob type plugin by a mile
I saw that in Andrew's video it looked pretty cool.
ultimate vocal remover is one of the best tools of all time. So damn clean for something that is free and relatively new to the software game
I agree, specially when you select the "Demucs" process method.
I requested my Subpac refund because of this video
xln life I feel like the whole point is the use the generated rhythm not so much the generated loop but also there’s random infinite sound generator
This reminds be of Baby Reindeer
You are to plug-ins what Davie 504 is to bass
Thank you Mr. Beats for a great year of content !
Falcon 3 has been cracxed already
I would mention Supertone Clear, wavesfactory Equalizer and also new gate from sonnible
Smart gate?
i've tried the gate, haven't tried the other ones yet. there are too many plugins.
5:58 I'm six minutes in. Dude! Falcon 3 and Avenger 2 puts poopoo all over Current. Sorry, but i felt the same way about it as you felt about Synplant. Like. Yeah, it's great. But best sounding presets from a synth? Naw fam. falcon 3, Avenger 2, and Tone2 Icarus 2 have the presets that blows minds up.
Also a shoutout to Bitwig 5.1 release. Its not a plugin, but you basically use Bitwig for the Grid and other Synths. And they all got rad new things
Updated: ok, i hear you as to why you didnt out Falcon on the list. They have a small subset of presets you can trial through their free player, but i feel you about no proper trial.
You could buy Avenger 2 just for the new factory bank alone and never run out of material to produce with.
I don't know much about their history, but I'll look it up for sure. But I personally don't care if any of these guys use iLok or not. Fine by me if I love the software. @@chokocat9064
@@Arcessitorso fucking true, dude! So fucking true. Plus it's like...one of the most fun and easy to use for custom patches. I'm not a sound designer yet by any stretch, but I already made a handful of patches that I love and have used in tracks
i want to try falcon 3 but i'm not buying it to try it. I'll give avenger a shot though.
@@Weaverbeatsyeah, I totally feel you. I'll fly to Hawaii and let you use my copy, while I hustle you up those remaining subscribers. Oh, shit, I realized I can't do that....I used all my money's on buying Falcon 3 😂😂
i slept on this video until this moment right now, on purpose. 😂
gold clip best plugin if 2024 no competition
lol comp's design makes me want to destroy stuff
🎸 _It's just one of those days…_
Mixbus 9 came out this year, and I'm pretty happy with that. Not a plugin....um... The only thing i bought this year was analog labs V, and only because i got an 80% discount. It wasn't a great year for plugins.
Your Santa hat looks like a turban for most of the video…
The silent donning of the turban was actually my favorite part of this video!
I like this
Serato Sample needs fx just like in their studio daw. Add those FX to Serato Sample so we can get even more wild. And it can use an infinite screen size...We all ain't got microscopes for eyes.
Funny I thought about pre ordering a subpac a few years ago and decided it seemed fishy....
I think plug-in is your pronoun, homie
Freakshow Industries🤔
It's clear from the mic work you skipped the important "hardcore band vocalist" phase on your journey.
I had a "hardcore guitarist" phase 😭
@@Weaverbeats I didn't know you were once a decent lad!
haven't bought a plugin in over a year, did pay for some updates tho
the presets in current are garbage lol
Session Percussionist by Native Instruments looks pretty good..underrated
That’s not a plugin that’s a rompler
@@hrvstmusic It's… still a plugin.
nah@@crnkmnky the plugin part is Kontakt or Kontakt Player. Not Session Percussionist. Its basically just a preset for Kontakt.
@@hrvstmusic sure I guess if you wanna get super anal and technical with what’s considered a “plugin”. It’s a Komplete instrument to be used within Kontakt. I’m thinking most folks understood what I meant 😉. Just another tool to make music with.
scaler EQ seems a bit like Spectre
Thanks For Listening To Me... I Was Hoping To See Any Kind Of Awards On This. But Hey... OZONE 11 Ain't BAD, I Have My Former Critic's Complimenting My Final Master's Now, However I Do Add GullFoss Master On My Bottom Output Tree After Ozone 11 Thou, But Still Ozone Is Fun To Make Minor Adjustments To Once You Learn The Modules. Serato 2 Is Dope, So I Agree Wit You On That One, And Neutron 4 Might Be Dumber Than It's Competition, But Not When Used With OZONE 11, That's Probably Why It's A.i. Is Spreading The Low Ends, But If You Neutron 4 Your Low In First, It Stays Unchanged In Your Final Mix, Sound Quality in Tone Wise... Also You Should've At Least Thru In Best DAW Of The Year... I'mmah Go Out On Ah Limb And Say FL 21 Wins That One EASILY. 😁
Ozone is definitely not bad, I just still feel like it could be better especially the master assistant. The chance between 10 and 11 isn't ground breaking. I didn't want to do a DAW award because I don't multi-daw too often. I probably should have at least thrown some options out there as an outsider observation.
@@Weaverbeats How do you think the master assistant could be better in future versions? (Genuine question)
Do not shave your eyebrows!
hopefully next year will be more reverbs.
pls no
GET THIS MAN TO 50K!!!
If you bought subpac your a 🤡
Zero interest in synplant
let her free to shave your eyebrows
that's the plan
I agree it was a terrible year for plugins. Current was really the only significant thing to come out and the only decent synth in what feels like forever. Hope Xfer or u-he roll out some new products soon
It wasn't an exciting year for sure. But then on the other hand, if I had to only live with just one non-built in plugin in my DAW forever more. It would still be this years UVI Falcon 3. And, if it was to pick just one vintage emulation plugin, Softube Model 80 would be a contender. (though I love Prophet V sounds).
Shave, shave, shave,, shave!
