    UPDATE : On 18th Dec 2022, Tom Pidcock dethrones Ed Laverack on the magical Mallorca mountain setting a time of 22.46 with roughly 6.6wkg! The Ineos Grenadiers headed there with approx 10 riders during their training camp! The Pros showing us how it’s done! Put a smile on my face receiving that email!

I'm not sure this vlog will be improved by having additional swoopy drone shots and inspriational music as this angle all the way up, puts us all in the saddle, so we can concentrate and listen. Interesting reflections on the art of climbing! Apart from the right pacing, playing the right mind game is crucial, for me at least. Constantly feeding the mind with something positive - «half way there», «steep part done», «still 8 under max HR», «only three more minutes». Congrats with superb effort. Fantastic!

    Great insight Ed. I appreciate that you've put it out there about the mental games / conversations towards the top of the climb - reminds us all that you are normal. I love climbing and the challenge it presents physically and mentally so it's great to watch others doing similar. You spoke of pacing by the numbers rather than by feel, given that, what data do you have showing on these efforts? I am mindful that heart rate is important in pacing but can equally become self limiting if you're not careful. Thanks for content and keep going 👍

    Brilliant to watch, especially for the gradients! I'm doing it tomorrow and as a flabby 55yo sub 1hr would do me.... Been studying a lot of gearing/speed/cadence calculators and also the broleur hill climb calculator to get an idea of what speed I need on average, and how that tallys with say 34 x 34/30/27/24 etc and cadence as I'd rather spin than be bogged down in a grind.... Shuttle bus from Pollensa to the Repsol Garage at 8am, I did the Coll de Femenia 2 days ago(Sa Batalla yesterday, rest day today) and do not fancy 1000m of extra elevation and 30km on top of attempting this!!!!

    I was about to beat my PR 35min by a great margin this year but bonked like 2km from the top and lost 5 min instead. Pacing is indeed key on this climb, not only to save your legs but from a psycological factor, but past 5k you can see "small" riders riding on higher corridors farther ahead of you and this alone killed my moral abit when I was feeling dead inside. Also hear is killing, so another reason to head out early 🙂

    How much time do you think you could save by taking a more direct line (racing line) through corners?

    • @edlaverack
      @edlaverack  2 года назад +1

      Not much bud, maybe a few seconds, but it would be marginal.

      @@edlaverack Regardless, great work. I ask because I’m chasing a local KOM and am 8 seconds off (11 minute effort) but think I can save some seconds by doing this strategy. It’s a much wider road than Sa Calobra so maybe more benefit.

    Remco or Porte would destroy the Kom like nothing. But still great performance ✌️
