I think B&R has its small faction of loyalists within JM's fan base. I know what you mean though, and everyone seems to hate on or chronically overlook Paradise Valley aswell. Whilst I don't think it's as strong as B&R, PV has some real gems on.
It is my favourite album of his. I found it to be the one that had the most soul and felt most real and honest. The step back from the spotlight with his vocal issues really brought out the best of his musical abilities.
