  • A quick look and review of Monoprice's Stage Right SRD 215 active speaker. Professional looking, feature loaded and loud, the SRD only needs better processing and/or proper applied eq to sound good in many live sound or DJ applications where budget is a big concern. A big bump in the speaker's response in the 2K region makes it very harsh in general, unfortunately. Once tamed, the value is very good however and the look will fit into most decors without calling attention to itself.

Thx for posting. I'm looking at the srd210 as a floor monitor for my voice and acoustic guitar, blended, and send the mix out to the PA mains. I wouldn't consider a 12 or 15 for that role as those get real woody sounding. Do you think the srd210 will be okay-ish and does it tilt back like a floor monitor would? Thx

Some people like to mic a guitar amp to get a certain sound, but geneally, vocal microphones are plugged into the mixer directly to come out of the mains in most setups. I only have experience with the SRD215, unfortunately. I am not familiar with the 12 and 10, but believe they use a different compression driver, so likely have a different sound to them.

@@alpoulin1 yeah...I know. I perform as a singer songwriter with an acoustic guitar so my needs are a bit different. Im a bit more curious about the shape of that cabinet. Is it a big rectangle box or does it have angled sides where it can sit in the floor and tilt upwards like a monitor does?

@@alpoulin1I currently have two of the srd212s and they sound great. They also get loud, but wouldn’t recommend for an event more than 250 because that’s the max I’ve ever done with them. But the 12inch versions are very good.

Would you recommend 3 15 inch for a dj gig with a mackie 18 powered sub if I’m low on a budget? Even with a mixer

You can certainly use a pair of 15s with your sub if you wish. (10s or 12s would likely work as well and be less big/heavy however). The SRD215s have no problem getting loud, they are just unrefined in their sound quality, which is too bad. They are very capable output wise, and the woofer / horn are actually decent for such a budget speaker. If you have some kind of eq'ing capabilities, a reduction in the mids and adding some sweet top end can really improve their overall sound.
