The extra linkage from Harley to make a left hand shift was done from 75 to 76. Wasn't until 77 that they made a change to the cases to make it left hand shift by default. Went through this with my 76 that I changed back over to right hand shift for chopper reasons.

Hey man I have a 72 that was made rigid and I’m wondering what motor besides an iron head I can get in there

thanks for your question. well… the motor/transmission configuration and mounts don’t lend themselves well to big twin engine installation. Depends on how much work you really want to do... in most ways you may find it easier to stay with say a newer Sportster engine. Some people will give you the old “any engine can fit depending on how much work you wanna do” speech but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle and many of these projects truthfully get abandoned. Search around see what the custom guys are up too. I have seen Triumph engines in Sportster frames that look great. Depends on your resources man!!
