    Hi, i'm millie!
    I am autistic and ADHD, and I'm trying to leave the world in slightly better shape than when I found it. I am working towards this goal by focusing my life energy and experience as disabled and neurodivergent into disability advocacy work.
    If you like what I am doing and would like to support me to be able to continue doing it then any contribution, however small will help make that happen, and you will help me get closer to my dream of a society that is more accepting and appreciative of neurodivergent people and people with disabilities.
    Thank you.

    First autistic person in a video that doesn't keep constant eye contact with the camera...
    That makes me so much more comfortable and I could WATCH (not just listen) you all day without any issues.

      Yay this means so much to me! I wanted to try with these videos to be true to myself, so I don't force myself to look at the camera. Of course having to prepare means i'm not completely being myself, but i'm glad that helps. I agree even watching a video, it's too intense when someone is staring right at me.

    That was indeed a great question. Thank you for breaking it down to explain and sharing your perspective. It shines a light on how tiring making simple daily decisions is.
    On a seperate note, I adore your dark florals blouse!

    I am constantly fighting with my family over these issues.I can cook really well but I struggle to feed myself or shower or even go out .The family think I am being lazy .

    • @cherrymintrose
      @cherrymintrose  6 месяцев назад +1

      Oh no, ugh, i can't stand it when people just label someone as 'lazy'. Sorry that is happening to you. I got that a lot in my life as well, even though I was trying as hard as i could and often am just exhausted.
      I'm reading the book 'Laziness does not Exist' which is about this exact issue. Not sure if you've heard of it? The author wrote a book about autism as well that I want to read soon!
      Might be something you'd want to read (or watch the authors interviews and videos if that's more your style). Seem like something your family might want to read as well! Sorry I shouldn't be given unsolicited advice but i'm just excited about this book...

    The only thing I truly want to do is create a group of volunteers and go out and catch stray cats to be spayed. I try to do it alone, but the cats can be so wild, and I'm also in chronic pain so catching one cat & bringing her to the vet means about 2 weeks of recovery for me. And then there is the finances. I'm also on disability and I hate how everything is about money. Being 'poor' just sucks. Such a great question indeed - and a great video about it, thanks! 😻

      Thanks for watching and for your sharing your ideas!
      I love that you want to create a volunteer group. I feel that's so often neurodivergent people and or disabled people are so often generous and it's just money or energy other barriers holding them back. Everyone should be able to have the time and support to be able to make these kinds of projects happen if they want to.

    wow the meals thing...i love to eat my own cooked food but i end up getting every single dish and utensil dirty and the mess is overwhelming. it might take me a week to clean it

    • @cherrymintrose
      @cherrymintrose  4 месяца назад

      That is so relate-able, thanks for sharing! Would be nice if someone could help but unless I have a partner or someone payed to help with cleaning or other things I might find difficult, it gets extremely stressful to cook. And lot's of us live alone and don't have money for supports.
      I've lately been getting Meals on Wheels delivered a few days a week and that has reduced some of the stress around food, although the textures of reheated food are still really difficult to deal with.

    Thank you for sharing 😊 My husband got a late diagnosis at age 40. We have four children and I am learning so much from listening to you. I am glad my children who are being assessed for autism already have grown in an environment where they are fully accepted. I just need to keep learning how best to help learn how the world is perceived through them 💖 You look fantastic btw. I would love to ask a question. What is the advice you could give someone like myself who really wants to understand and support my family members who live as autistic individuals?

    • @cherrymintrose
      @cherrymintrose  Год назад +2

      Thank you i'm so glad I can help a bit! And i'm happy your kids are in an accepting environment, that makes all the difference. Thanks for the question, I will add that to my list of questions to answer, but for a quick answer, I think (and you are probably doing this already) is asking them what they need, since it will be unique to them. Otherwise though I like articles and research that have been done by or with mostly input from people with lived experience of being neurodivergent. If I had to recommend one resource for now I really like this guide as I felt it spoke to my experience:

      @@cherrymintrose thank you much for the link. It really helped me understand not only my husband but my children too. My daughter is 9 and is just an amazingly, intelligent and full of fun little girl. When she falls or has an accident it takes days for her to recover. I now know that she feels that pain more intensely than my six year old. This article has helped me realise even more about the importance of routine and so many other things. So thank you again for not only sharing your experience but also in being kind enough to share this article with me. Sending many thanks from our family here in Ireland ❤️

      It does feel that way a lot of the time. I think its getting better but sooooo slowly and I wish neurotypical people could do a bit more of their own research to try and understand (at the very least if they have someone close to them who is neurodivergent).
