  • The Loaded 4X4 team gets behind the wheel of the top-spec Nissan Navara PRO-4X and puts it to the test at the Loveday 4X4 Park in South Australia's Riverland. It's our first drive of the Series-5 Navara, and aside from a new face, there's plenty of other changes to note, some good and some not so good.
    What does Georgia think of the sussy?
    Where have those trick cupholders gone?
    Can Steane remember the pricing, and when will he realise that the infotainment system hasn't really changed, it just worked this time (unlike in the Series-4 N-TREK Warrior we last drove).
    At Loaded 4X4 we're putting the 'adventure' back into 4X4 reviews by putting the latest 4X4 vehicles to the test in amazing locations, and we'll be dropping new vehicle reviews every week or two, maybe three.

    Great review, one of the most detailed ones I've ever seen! Interestingly from all the reviews I've watched everyone has said that the ranger was more comfortable on road than the navara but I have always questioned that cause I couldn't see how a leaf sprung vehicle could be more comfortable than a coil sprung vehicle. One question tho, when you say the navara tc is better than the triton do you mean that's it's quicker to respond? I know that the hilux tc is by far the best and the triton tc is definitely better than the ranger. Another question, do you reckon the stock coil springs give the navara better suspension travel than the stock leaf springs on it's competitors?

    • @Loaded4X4
      @Loaded4X4  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for the great feedback Anthony. The Ranger is good but the Navara rides more like an SUV than a ute. Mercedes-Benz picked the Navara platform for its now defunct X-Class largely because of the coil rear suspension and I'd say the S5 Nav is now riding a lot like the last X-Class I drove, which is better than any of the utes besides Raptor. Nav TC is quicker to respond than Triton IMO. It's a seat-of-the-pants thing but it feels more effortless than the Triton's TC, quicker to engage and more progressive. Yep, HiLux is definitely the best in this regard (TC), although we haven't driven an Amarok lately...in fact it's been years so maybe it's up there as well. - Steane

    Thanks guys - interesting to see my local tyre space fitted the same Yokohamas on my Hilux but I don’t do the ‘extreme sports dude’ off-road drives as it’s simply for domestic and touring duties - I’ve always liked Nissan’s but do you know what the new Navara/Triton specs will be? - will it morph into a rear leaf sprung, super select Mitsubishi power plant and drive train? - I’d be more comfortable replacing a French-engineered engine with a Japanese one but keep the brilliant Mitsubishi super select transmission- John in SA

    We still got our 2013 D40 Navara. Been a great rig for everything we do. Not in a hurry to replace it with these modern rigs. Not a fan of all the safety crap these days, seems to be more of a danger than an actual safety feature, takes away the driver inputs. Would piss me off if that crap interfered with me like that.

    • @anthonyramdin1037
      @anthonyramdin1037 3 года назад +2

      Same here, never liked those safety systems, it could actually cause you to get in an accident. If I were to buy any new vehicle I would have it disabled by the manufacturer if possible or just do it privately if the manufacturer can't

    Mm interesting, HOWEVER THE PRO 4X is the most expensive but does Not have all the fruit, electric heated seats are off the planet luxurious in cold weather, the pro 4X has aesthetic enhancement and looks awesome But top spec model is the STX, Did the research bought the new STX
    NO REGRETS..... ☺ 💞

    That background noise. Is it from the ute itself? Or is it coming from the wind of the air conditioner? Because it is really loud.
    If it is from outside noise, it is really loud and I wouldn't buy that kind of noisiness.

    Awesome reviewI guys! watched it in forensic detail.
    really wanted the X-Terrain but was dissapointed at the current wait times. +8 months
    So I went out looking and fell in love with the PRO4X yes i understand for the top of the range model it lacks some things.
    You guys have really done a great job on this review and can not wait for my own stelth grey PRO4X to stop floating and make it to the bitumen which nissan tells me the 7th of July and delivery is the week ending the 12th.
    I went with the snorkel, not just for river crossings but the clean air intake, Tinted windows, Off-Road Coated Bullbar with hoops, Tow bar is included yet i will have electric brake controller installed. all for $67,343.40
    Two questions?
    In the footage you guys were talking on the UHF, was that a temporary install or perminant? what location do you recommend to have it installed, as i will have the antenna on the bullbar hoop?
    What tyres would you recommend without having to upgrade the suspension or lift kit?
    Keep up the good work guys loved it!!!

    • @Loaded4X4
      @Loaded4X4  3 года назад

      Glad you enjoyed our review mate and congrats on buying the Pro-4X! UHFs were temp fits and to be honest, I don't know where/how folks are fitting UHFs in the Navara. My recommendation would be to join one or more of the D23/NP300 Facebook groups and search those for UHF installs. In my Triton I have an iCom 440 which has the controls on the hand unit and I just Velcro the box under the passo seat. Power and aerial run up through a bung in the rear floor and out from under the carpet where it finishes under the front seat. Others bring the cables in through existing bungs in the firewall. There's probably a number of ways you can fit it up in the Nav, and FB is where you'll get the best tips/tricks on that IMO. I personally try and do it without pulling out centre consoles or putting holes in the dash. Have fun with the new car and make sure you take it off-road!

      Oh and tyres! We're Toyo fans. David has been running them for years on his training fleet and hire campers and I've recently been running them as well. Best tyres I've experienced to date, really good steering feel, bugger all noise for a reasonably aggressive AT and this will sound weird, but they ride better than other tyres I've tried in recent times (same pressures). Toyo's AT is the OPAT2 which is what I run on my Triton, there's also a hybrid RT and a mud tyre available. Go for LT (light truck) construction if your plans include heading off the bitumen. - Steane

      I have the Series 4 Navara N-trek and I think the CB fitment would be the same. I have a Uniden UHF 8080S and the radio unit is fitted under to centre console, left side, forward of the gear lever. The only thing that is exposed is the microphone (remote head unit) mounted to the dash. It is a real neat fitment. I had the radio unit mounted on the left side, as the wife handles the communication when we are on the move (I can still use it when I am solo).

    The pro 4x is based of the ST. The STX with leather has heated and electric seats

    • @Loaded4X4
      @Loaded4X4  3 года назад +2

      The Pro-4X has the same spec level as the base STX and adds the specific Pro-4X leather seats, and other Pro-4X black stuff like wheels and sports bar etc. Heated and electric seats are only available in the STX as part of an option pack which includes upgrading to leather, or maybe it was partial leather... STX has a few option packs that can be added to increase its spec while the Pro-4X is a take it or leave it deal. It is an odd decision to fit a swish leather interior to the Pro-4X and leave out heating, electrics and lumbar support adjustment.
