- Nearly a decade ago Darien Lake seemed to be in the process of getting a state-of-the-art wooden coaster that would've likely put the park at the forefront of the amusement industry. Unfortunately, this never came to be, and this story is commonly overlooked and forgotten by many coaster enthusiasts. To this day, no one seems to know exactly what this ride was supposed to be, and why it never happened. Today, I will give you my thoughts and potential answers to those questions, along with a modernized concept for this roller coaster with the help of @EliteCoasters .

I just wish that the park managment would at least try to make the park LOOK better. U got the empty Cuda falls area just sitting there. The grizzly run area just sitting there wasting away. Even where the ferris wheel was is just crappy looking. Just painting the rides and or bulldozing those areas and making them just a grassy field would b better
unfortunately i feel the same way about the majority of this six flags parks. i’d put this more on company management rather than park management. park managent doesn’t get any say in that type of stuff
@justinhill- I get it. Just a shame to see this park as a shell of what it once was. It has alot of potential. It doesn't have to have the tallest or fastest thrill rides but it would b nice to see new attractions open here and there to fill in the empty spaces
For real though! Barracuda Falls has been closed since I was like 7 years old- I’m now 28! I have no idea why that ghost town of a water park is still just sitting there, dead smack in the middle of the park.

darien lake is a reflection of the local area unfortunately, everything here is overpriced people dont have allot of disposable money to drop at an amusement park anymore. i bet attendance is likely down significantly . rochester is a horrible city, i haul milk for a living (truck driver) and i deliver to rochester. there is a pan handler begging for money on every street corner. it's a hell hole. i live 20 minutes from darien lake, the only ammusment park i went to this summer was cedar point. what a nice park, and the surrounding cities and towns were much nicer. my community has been crushed by idiots like cuomo and hochul. people here just dont have much money anymore. the other local park here was called fantasy island, now niagara amusement and splash park has been through multiple owners and operators, it was completely closed for several years. neither park has done especially well.
We rlly need more coasters here I'm tired of riding the same ones over and over again

Rochesterian here (not born and raised but I've lived here since 2013, Also lived in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area from 2001-2008.
Anyway, I was admittedly kind of excited when SF reacquired Darien Lake, hoping to see the DC and Looney Tunes theming come back to the park. Alas... No theming changes have occurred. That said I did find out that Mind Eraser has been closed for the 2024 season, getting an overhaul, so maybe SF is going to start making more improvements to the park? Fingers crossed...
Six Flags is in a bad way as a whole. None of their parks are doing especially well right now, not even their biggest ones, they dug themselves a grave of debt. They recently completed a merger with the owners of Cedar Point, who are generally more competent, so hopefully some improvements will come out of that.
The fact that they were going to call it anything but APEX PREDATOR is just ridiculous.
EDIT: I never even considered the possibility that this was a ground up new coaster… I was fully convinced it was an RMC Iron Horse conversion.
I think a good coaster choice would be a RMC Wild Moose that would be located in the former Grizzly Run area seeing that Darien doesn't have any family coasters in the park. I also wish they would hurry up and finish the Titan Track on Predator as it shouldn't take this long to complete it.

RMC or an Intamin Blitz/S&S launch is what the park needs to be revitalized. I'm a born and bred Buffalonian, and it's sad to see the place I developed my passion for coasters being such a red-headed stepchild. I fear DL is a park that will be negatively impacted by the recent merger.

I'm never mad at a B&M invert. But that's not better than a blitz. Ever.
@@timhunter1214well, Cheetah Hunt is an intamin blitz, and Montu is a B&M invert in the same park. And it’s clear that Montu is the better coaster. But generally, a blitz will be better than an invert
Fellow born and bred Buffalonian here, I moved to Atlanta many years ago and I still live here now. The location that Funspot Atlanta bought out used to be a total dump. They built a standout RMC and got people coming.
That place is otherwise a glorified fairground, well maintained but not a whole lot to do. But they made something out of nothing. People come for Arieforce alone. Darien already has themselves poised for success if they hit a real grand slam

darien lake was one of my favorite places to go to for a long time and besides going on bigger and better roller coasters at different parks it just seems like the ghetto compared to some other parks ive been to. the area where the old log ride used to be where the tantrum is now especially looks horrible
I was a ride operator at SFDL during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, operating, training on and team leading Grizzly Run and Mind Eraser mostly. Even then the place needed new coasters. Predator needed to be replaced (maybe it still does?) and though I operated it I hated Mind Eraser. I'm just not a fan of stock designs and, for me, Vekoma stock design coasters are about as boring and generic as they get. We had always heard rumors about a new coaster coming to DL One rumor was that a newer style coaster was going to one of their eastern US parks, and it turned out to be Kingda Ka. Hearing about this RMC though, that would have been a real nice addition.
SFDL has so much potential to be a standout regional park if they could just get a vision for it. And it would be a real money maker too with the camping.

I would see what I could get for scrapping like Boomerang, Mind Eraser. I would made Tantrum a tad bigger so it doesnt feel like a carnival coaster, and then RMC predator.
Darien Lake isn't exactly surrounded by a bunch of major cities but it does have Canada/Toronto and I think thats their best bet keeping revenues high (But of course theirs Canda Wonderland.)
In light of recent news regarding the Cedar Fair and Six Flags merger, I'm very curious to see if Darrien Lake and La Rhonde will get any love and improve. That said, if they're just leased, its hard to invest big money. it takes more than a few years to get that back.
I always thought it would be sweet if the park built and RMC single rail coaster. Maybe have it built to have it go along the lake between Predator and the hotel.
As an employee at SDC, I wish it could have worked out for HFE to keep Darien in their company. I know you would have enjoyed riding an RMC a little closer to home.

I appreciate the solid info on the recent history of the park. It’s sad to see what happened with Herschend because I hear Dollywood is one of the best parks in the country!
Regardless I would love to see Six Flags go big and give us a B&M flying coaster. I know it’s way outside of their budget but one can dream,right!?
That said I think an RMC wether it is a conversion of predator or not would’ve my second choice, and an awesome coaster for the park.

They cheapened out and are just putting down steel titan track a little at a time so it’s gonna take 10 years just to put steel track on an existing layout

six flags needs this park again
Six Flags has this park. Six Flags themselves is absolutely down the shitter and has been for some time.
Wish they could make predator into a steel hybrid.. That thing is painful to ride. I completely avoid it.. The rest of the rides are aging. Viper (Arrow) is ancient and a head banger. The giant wheel is gone. The pirate ship was not operating on my last trip.. The park is often a ghost town. And yes it looks awful… Someone needs to take control and put some effort into the park. Six flags has not done the park any favors. I skip the park altogether, and it’s my home park.

I was there yesterday. I didn't think the predator ride was that bad. Mind eraser was way worse last year. Viper is still my favorite ride in the park.
The park does look run down.
Arrow loopers are classic if a little janky. Viper is among the last of a dying breed and is honestly one of the only real points of interest among this park's lineup.

Having Darien Lake as a home park is like a toxic relationship… the titan track on Predator is fine but the layout of the ride was never that great to begin with. Oh what could’ve been

The lineup there is underrated ride of steel tantrum predator boomerang viper etc: its kinda deep
Tantrum is a below average eurofighter, Boomerang and Mind Eraser are stock Vekomas. Not impressive at all. Predator is in its twilight. Ride of steel and Viper are the only two really worthwhile coasters at DL, and even then they're just okay. The lineup overall honestly sucks
You would have to be suicidal to go to a theme park. They stopped me from going to them themselves.
