Is Darien Lake Removing Two MORE Rides???

  • Six Flags has quietly removed a slew of rides from different park websites, and this has led to the majority of people thinking they'll be removed. Darien Lake has removed two rides, those being Big Kahuna and Heave Ho. With removing older/high maintenance rides becoming a mainstay in the Six Flags chain, this had led me to believe there needs to be some major investments into Darien Lake's flat ride collection, soon rather than later.

    This park is in such a sad state. In the late 90s early 2000s the place seemed so full of excitement and life. Now they keep removing rides and not adding anything of value, and wonder why the park isn't performing well. I understand the park is in a weird location but it has a huge campground an on-site hotel and a concert venue that gets some big acts. Being a rochesterian it really sucks seeing this park dwindle away when it has sooo much potential

    It's ironic that in the 80s the worry was that Darien Lake would put Seabreeze in Rochester out of business. Now Seabreeze is cruising along marketing itself as the classic family park while Darien Lake tries to define what it really is.

    Darien Lakes glory years were 1996-2003. Every year a new ride was added. (Nightmare, Wave Pool, Mind Eraser, Superman, Boomerang, Twister, Shipwreck Falls, Tornado) That's also when it turned into Six Flags, added the concert pavilion & hotel. Business was booming.The park felt so alive. It was the popular place to be. We looked forward to the new attraction every summer. Nowadays, it's following in the same footsteps as Martin's Fantasy Island.

    i think what hurts Darien Lake the most right now is not officially being owned by Six Flags.this could also be why they haven't rethemed back to DC. this could also mean that others besides Six Flags might have some say in what stays and what goes.

    Loving this channel. I went to Darien Lake this past Sunday and I can definitely see the need for family oriented rides. The thing is that Darien Lake has potential, like some seriously good potential. If they added a few newer family oriented rides, maximize the space they have, maybe add a new roller coaster, i.e. like Wild Cat Revenge at Hershey, that would be amazing. I get having some of the older rides and that's fine, but viper has ran its course. It's old, very shaky and the amount of room that it takes up is crazy. As a marketing business owner with 20 years of experience under my belt, I can see that there is an audience for the park, but it has to be marketed right. Just look at places like Silver Dollar City or Dollywood, Darien has real potential.

  • @DJG094
    @DJG094 Год назад +19

    I wonder why Darien Lake is so low on the priority list for SF, since I honestly think the location has incredible potential. I agree that ride removal is an issue. I also think that Darien Lake could benefit from improving their coaster lineup in some way, and perhaps actually not make another clone. The best rides there are ROS, Tantrum, and Viper, none of which particularly stand out when compared with the lineups of other parks. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great rides, but I feel as if Darien Lake should have something better going for it. Only re-tracking a single section of Predator also isn’t much help.

      The park has potential but the lack of public transit doesn't help, and neither does the fact it keeps bouncing from one operator to another. The actual owners, EPR properties, don't invest anything into the park, and they don't seem interested in selling it (from rumors that Herschend tried to buy it, but EPR's conditions were ridiculous), so... Darien Lake's future probably isn't great.

    • @amusementscape
      @amusementscape  Год назад +6

      @@brianstart8276 Yeah it's really tough. Darien Lake isn't in a good location, which is good because there's no reason to ever close the park and sell it, but it's bad because there's no way to get the employees they need from a place like Buffalo, and forget Rochester.

    • @gordontaylor2815
      @gordontaylor2815 Год назад +7

      The main thing that's been keeping it going is the fact that you have the campgrounds and concert venue on the property as well as the rides and attractions. Darien Lake has all the ingredients to become an "A-List" amusement park, but no one seems interested (or capable) enough to make the necessary investments to tap that potential. 😔

    For the prices they now charge (I’ve heard there is a parking charge for day use park go-ers) they have to improve the park. Especially with more family rides and maybe a top of the line thrill ride. I love it there for the camping and nostalgia. But gutting the Ferris wheel was a big blow to me. That’s been an icon for the park. And the lazer light show. It doesn’t make any sense why they got rid of that. It keeps people spending money in the park till the very end. I disagree about the family rides honestly, while they could do with some I think what the park really needs is a new major thrill coaster. Ride of steel is great but dated. They are slowly titan tracking predator so probably no RMC on that which is fine, but if that's the case they ought to utilize the land and put in something to draw in tourists from niagra, toronto, and the rest of the surrounding states. As well of course doing a decent repaint on Ride of Steel and others. I say trim the fat of the older rides if they are costly and focus on providing a high quality compact package that packs a punch

    The park really needs some TLC. Fresh paint everywhere, retooling of the pathways to make getting to certain rides easier (looking at you Motocoaster). Replace some wheels on the coasters ( At least Predator is getting more Titan track this year so that's one win) . Add a copuple smaller flat rides. The park has a lot of potential if someone wanted to put money into it. It's just outside of a major city with Buffalo, it has a very nice campground and a major concert venue that constantly pulls very major tours every year. With a few new rides and some major park maintenance (seriously some repainting would go a very long way here) I feel this park could easily be a very good mid-tier six flags park.
