    Two things happened:
    1: The development and roll out of raptor coasters is behind schedule. There is more kinks to work out before moving on to its bigger brother. They straight up had to change the track design from the original 2. Gen 2 raptor track is several inches thicker.
    2: The pandemic hit right in the middle of that raptor development, slowing down development of the raptor and demand for the T-Rex.
    However, the T-Rex is far from dead. RMC has made that very clear. If they dropped the idea, they’d treat it like their “woodies” and quietly brush it under the rug before pulling it from their site.
    The Raptor is also starting to hit its limit in terms of capacity and height. The max the model can do is in the 160s/170s ft in height.
    The first T-Rex is likely going to be a hyper, maybe a giga. The model can be 500ft, but it was NEVER marketed at RMCs 500ft model. Thoosies have greatly overinflated RMC answering an interview question for what this coaster model is. The T-Rex is supposed to be RMC take on a modern “steel” coaster. It’s going to be used on a wide range of coasters. From a more traditional hyper layout, to the largest looping coasters. And yes, if the model is successful (and reliable) some of those coasters will eventually be over 500ft. But that is like stage 2 or 3 of the T-Rex model’s rollout.

  • @FunkAndFluff
    @FunkAndFluff Год назад +78

    I feel like we enthusiasts are too fixated on that theoretical 500 ft maximum for the T-Rex. For instance, Zamperla announced at IAAPA that their new Lightning trains can theoretically handle speeds of up to about 200 mph, yet nobody seems to think a ride that fast is in Zamperla's future. It feels reasonable to manage our expectations on stats in a similar manner.
    Based on cost, demand, available space and other factors, I'd personally bet my money that every T-Rex will be 150-350 ft tall. Results like these wouldn't disappoint me at all. RMC doesn't need 500 ft to make a great ride; most of our top 25 lists back this up.

    So I just want to point out that Alan Schilke in the past said many years ago that they basically wanted to milk the Raptors for a while before they went to the T-Rex. They wanted to use up its potential and develop the T-Rex before really pushing its sale. We're now starting to get to that point. What's likely been holding it back is largely the Pandemic and the fact that parks really aren't buying a lot of large coasters right now.

  • @Soonjai
    @Soonjai Год назад +40

    If RMC is still willing to build one if a Park has legit interest in one, I would say that Energylandia isn´t too unrealistic. Looking at their entire lineup, both in coasters and Flatrides, they are focused in offering something for the entire family, from the smallest child to people that are looking for the highest thrills. When they build Zadra, they also added 2 coasters suitable for children, when they added Abyssus, they also added a Family Boomerang, next are the Mine Train and another child friendly coaster, so the next one after that is the Tilt Coaster for the Thrill Audience.
    Realisticly, they are probably going for a Giga from either B&M (most likely) or Intamin, unless Vekoma feels comfortable enough to break the Giga Milestone for them. But overall, I wouldn´t put a a T-Rex with more than 400ft as too unrealistic for them.

    • @RemixedVoice
      @RemixedVoice Год назад +5

      It also helps that Energylandia is funded a lot by the Polish government, in order to bring more tourism to the country. They don't really have to worry as much about profits and costs as much as privately-owned parks do.

    i tried making one in planet coaster and at least for the 500 feet plan, its almost impossible to make real elements with that much speed that dont kill you. everything has to be MASSIVE or take place super high in the air. both of these possibilities make it ridiculously expensive

  • @RadioMuse1
    @RadioMuse1 Год назад +20

    I think you basically found it by the end:
    For anything up to the 250ft range, it's cheaper to build a ground-up Ironhorse/I-Box hybrid.
    For the single-rail gimmick - the raptor model got scaled up enough and they found ways to get enough capacity out of the model for the biggest Six Flags parks.
    The only reason to build the T-Rex is to go big - like Giga big or bigger. Unfortunately the monetary and land-use cost of that kind of project is outside the budget of just about everybody (except Energylandia). I don't think it's necessary canceled though - just that the right confluence of events hasn't occurred to bring one to market.
    Some of those other models you mocked for not making it to market may also pop up eventually. The problem for the Intamin vertical LSM is that they're mostly working with Busch/Sea in NA and those parks already added Skyrocket IIs - which seem quite similar. And all those family coaster projects aren't necessarily a "step backwards" - parks care about filling out their lineups for the whole family.
    Enthusiasts also need to stop obsessing over the whole "the ride system is good for 500+ft" thing. I'm pretty sure any of the big players (Intamin, B&M, S&S/Vekoma) would be able to submit bids for a ride of that size if the land and the cash were readily available. We already see an Intamin project that scale proposed for Six Flags Qiddiya.
    Let's also be real here - a giga RMC would still be a dream and there's basically no way for the first one to be a disappointment from a hype perspective. The only project of that scale I can remember being a let down in the coaster community was Orion - and that's really only because of Fury. If Fury didn't exist no one would've moaned at Orion. I could see the 2nd or 3rd TRex project being a "let down" but so long as the first is the tallest/fastest RMC - I think folks will rightly lose their minds.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber Год назад +2

      On top of that, even parks that could afford one aren't looking for that kind of ride anymore. The coaster wars as we knew them are over, because the average park guest today isn't looking for the biggest rides but rather the best experiences - not just with the rides themselves but in the queue experience and theming as well. The T-Rex is a coaster model that came a decade too late.

    I don't agree with you here. Any regular big park could just get a normal RMC T Rex that isn't 500 feet tall and where a Raptor wouldn't make much sense due to capacity. The Raptor may have 12 car trains now but thereby, they still only can have 12 seats per train. That's not great for a big park. There are a lot of parks that could get an average (120-250 feet ish) RMC T Rex where it would make sense economically. I could see most Merlin or Walibi parks getting one. They have big parks and they don't go all out with new attractions. Also the bigger Six Flags would benefit from the higher capacity (New England, Great America, Discovery Kingdom e.g.) over a Raptor.

    Another possible reason that parks won't justify getting a large scale t-rex is because how much space it would take up, because parks will get more of a return for the same land if instead of a 500ft trex they can put in a 100/200ft thrill coaster, new flats, possibly a new family coaster and restaurant. The only way I see a t-rex happening is if a park goes for a raptor sized ride, but with better capacity

    I think it comes down to 2 factors- 1) cost of materials/cost to finance. This means parks will pay significantly more to build a T-REx and to finance it will be significantly higher due to interest rates. 2) Many parks are still recovering from the 2020 shut down, and this has delayed ride purchase/replacement programs.
    I heard rumors that Silverwood saved RMC when they bought Stunt Pilot, simply because other parks cancelled/delayed projects. The other rumor being when Silverwood bought Stunt Pilot is that this raptor was meant for a different park that cancelled and Silverwood bought it to keep the RMC staff employed.

    I think it's about money and return on investment from the park's perspective. Hybrids (especially conversions) and Raptors are cheap and generate a lot of hype. Just look at Iron Gwazi. Some enthusiasts are calling it the best in the world. A T-Rex would probably cost 5-10 times as much, and when the cheaper option almost automatically lands in people's top 25, the law of diminishing returns dictates what you go with.
    I think we'd be more likely to see a T-Rex in like UAE or somewhere where showing off opulent spending is an end in itself, and no one really cares about returns.

The two are basically the same, just removing the second loop from Afterburn's layout. An RMC at BGW is possible, yes, as new plans have shown it's possible. I don't think BGT would get an Intamin Multi-Launch considering they already have a good family Intamin, that being Cheetah Hunt, and it's the most popular coaster at the park, barely being beaten out by Cobra's Curse. Supposedly, Sand Serpent is getting a warehouse-like shell to make it an indoor coaster in 2023 or 2024, so the possibility of a DarKoaster at BGT is already filled in with Sand Serpent.

    I think the pandemic killed the hype for the T-Rex. All parks were forced to scramble, down size, close, etc........I'd estimate that when they relesase the T-Rex that it will cost around 35Million. I think they are just waiting at this point for someone that can afford them and for that brand to be big

    Epic Universe is about the only park I can think of that can realistically build one of these right now. Universal has the money and the space now so it's the ideal candidate in my eyes. Question is what would the theme be and who would be the target audience?

    SF is out of the question cause they do not spend 30M on coasters, they purchase max15M coasters & actually cheaper than that since bankruptcy. RMC Raptors were designed to go up to 200ft according to RMC for custom models, their issue is that the clone models have too low capacity except for low attendance parks, yet parks do not want to spend 30-40M for a Trex. RMC is developing a middle tier coaster, that has 2 acrosss seating to have higher capacity like Trex, while not as expensive, yet larger than Raptors.

    In my opinion it just doesn't make sense to have track like that, the rappers are small and can do tight moves and stuff but the trex is basically normal track that uses a lot more material and is more expensive, at that point rmc might as well make a normal pipe rail coaster

    My home park is six flags great adventure and the 50th anniversary is 2024 and we are supposed to get something big but now knowing it’s not likely the T. rex will ever be released is bad for six flags and us but I doubt they would’ve gotten one anyway plus everybody wants a giga but well six flags is poor so I’m not sure what they are going to do tbh at that point they should just give us a vekoma tilt coaster and we just get a complete retrack for el toro by zublin(original company contracted to make the track for el toro) and huge park improvements

    Crazy that no one talks about the park that owns the biggest brand around dinosaurs. Don't fall for the capacity remarks. Intamin built Hagrid's and Velocicoaster. RMC can make a capacity ride for Universal.

    I don't think that if the T-rex is ever built that they will start above 400 feet. When announced it was listed as starting at 150 feet and it was that interview with Peter from Theme Park Crazy when they made the 400 to 500 foot comment. It seemed more like an aspirational side comment than an official announcement from the company. I wouldn't be surprised if they built one as a hypercoaster and then the big parks waited to see the reliability and response from crowds before building a large scale version. I don't think the general public would be disappointed if a regional park bought a 250 foot T-rex hypercoaster and that began the trend.
    I could definitely see Kings Island being a park to get a large scale T-rex after several years if smaller parks built smaller versions first. And if the T-rex turned out to be reliable and a more cost effective way to build a giga then I wouldn't be surprised if Magic Mountain got one down the road, regardless of how redundant it might seem. Six Flags has done far more egregious things when it comes to unnecessary additions.
    As for the 400 to 500 foot range, I could imagine Cedar Point, Energylandia and maybe a park in the UAE building one in that range if the model proved to be a hit at other parks. But I really doubt that kind of height would be typical for the T-rex.

    One place I could see a T-rex going is where cedar creek mine co. is in cedar point. The old mine ride isn't the best, it really dosen't have any historical purpose except for the story line of the western part of town in cedar point. Blue streak is the oldest in the park, and in my opion it is a better ride and still looks and feels good. Two things could go in this new space. Record breaking gci or a t-rex. We have been prommised a rollercoaster that is going to be biggeer and better than stev way before the top thrill incedent. And I know that top thrill is going to be revamped, but I don't see it as a full on new coaster that fufills the better than stev statment. I think thta after top thrill is done with and finaaly open, we will see news on something coming to cedar point, hopefully a t-rex but I could see a recourd breaking gci.

    Pretty simple answer- it’s a thing, but parks are poor and won’t risk a $15m+ coaster that mite have the same problems as the raptors, just huge.

    I've ridden one raptor, Wonder Woman at SFMM. The year it came out. And sorry to say, it was bouncy and rough. Don't know if it was my train or my seat, but was probably the toughest ride of the day and it was brand new! Anyone else have this problem? Maybe the raptors sold well but people think a T Rex won't hold up for a long time?
