I use what you use but far less dawn. I put n more baking soda and put it on then add vinegar. The vinegar lifts the brown residue. I don’t use the razor. But I don’t let my stove build up too much either
I used the sharp blade method as well, and it does work. But you cannot use a regular pot scrubber. I tried and it scratched a small spot on my stove top. But I found out that the sharp blade method does a great job and it doesn’t scratch it up. Thanks for sharing!
Man does this work! I had some horrible burnt on sugar stains from making Apple Butter and Strawberry jam and I thought they were permanent. Followed the directions exactly and my cook-top now looks brand new! Thanks!
This worked beautifully!!! We used a combo of vinegar, baking soda, and a squirt of Dawn and were amazed at how quickly this process worked!! Thank you!!!
Not to be disparaging to your comments but I have done this type of glass stove top cleaning using a razor blade knife and Weimans glass stove top cleaner/ protector. Glass is much harder than steel because of its high carbon content. I learned a trick about sharpening a knife using the edge of a glass car door. The edge of the glass door is rougher than the glass panel itself. You can sharpen a knife by running sharpening strokes along the top of the door at the correct angle. Now the steel in your razor blade runs parallel to the glass stove top which is smooth. You can also use a Scotch Brite pad to accompany your baking soda/ Dawn dish liquid after you have used the razor on the glass stove top. My guess is that you could use a pumice-based cleaning product to work as well
These glass cooktop stoves look absolutely amazing in a kitchen, but are hard to keep clean an pretty unless you let them buildup too long with baked on grease then it takes longer to clean them. All methods I have seen work pretty good but if you do a light cleaning right after cooking it will make it easier to maintain a good looking cooktop. Also inspect the bottom of pots, an pans that come into contact to your cooktop heated elements an try to keep the bottoms as clean as you can. This really helps a lot. If you already have a nice cooktop beware of how easy it is to scratch it.Don ‘t place any kind of cooking trays or baking pans out of the oven DIRECTLY on the cooktop. If you haven’t the counter space at least lay a couple of oven mittens on your top for protection.
Mine is anything but easy to scratch, I've scraped on it with my benchmade, it has an ats 34 steel blade with a Rockwell hardness of 58. The top has got some tiny chips here or there from enameled cast iron pots, hardly any scratches.
Thanks for the video. I watched 10 different ones and found yours the most informative and most similar to my issue. I already have the baking soda, razor blade, and dish soap and plan to try this! I never thought about using the razor blade before and I think that will be the game changer!

Just lightly scrub it.and then wipe it off and if you need to add more vinegar add more vinegar and let it set , it works every time.cuz I used to have a really bad habit of letting the water boil over on top of the stove so it always get all these calcium deposits. I've been cleaning my wife's glass top since she bought her first one 25 years ago. The best cleaner is stove glass cleaner for removing creosote from wood stoves, it's pretty abrasive stuff and has silica in it. Use the stove glass cleaner first, then move to a dull razor blade has less chance of scratching the glass. Then the best part, I finish with 0000 steel wool, no it doesn't scratch the glass. Those dull spots at the end of the video are still leftover burned on material the steel wool takes it off. It normally leaves the glass completely clean and shiny but sometimes I use Windex for the final shine. I have actually had spots I thought were scratches where my fingernail snagged on but were burned on material that came off with the steel wool. I never spend more than five minutes on the stove and she's had burned on gravy almost 1/8 inch thick and my wife's stove looks brand new. FYI the best glass cooktops are made by Jena Glas in Germany, they made the windows for the space shuttles.
After washing the glass top with oven cleaner and a razor scraper I used an electric automotive buffer, rubbing compound and then automotive No 3 cut Meguiar's polishing paste to clean and polish it in about 15 minutes. My wife was blown away LOL...
I have had my glass top stove for 20 years and it shines all the time. I never use polish or any kind of abrasive. My stove is even black with a shiney top. All you have to do is buy a single edged razor. Takes all the spills right off.
once you have a spill over and it gets scorched under the pan, the finish is burned off. Its not a matter of cleaning it. The black is scorched off and not cleaning is going to repair it.
@@rosannemackenzie5348 The black never gets "burned off" its glass/ You simply use your razor blade on it and it all comes off. I've had my stove for over 20 years and it still shines like a new one. Ask anyone who uses a razor blade on it and they will tell you the same thing. I'm trying to make it simple for you. Just give it a try and make sure you angle the blaze right and it helps if you spray a little cleaner on if you've had it on there for a long time. The cleaner isn't there to clean the spillage, it's there for you to maybe get a better scraping angle on it. Just give it a try. I scrape mine dry and do it every time I have a spill.
Love my glass top stove. I clean it every time I do dishes with Cerama Bryte cleaner and it shines just like the day it was installed. The trick is don't let food get baked on over several uses before cleaning.
I used a butter knife once, because my oven mitt glove got burnt onto the stove, and I didn’t have a razor blade, but I sprayed it with vinegar and water, and scraped it off, I hope I didn’t ruin the glass. 🤔
Could I clean the inside of the glass door in the oven? I inherited the stove when we bought the house, I have tried a couple of times with baking soda and vinegar but it's really baked on....I dont think it was ever cleaned?
Yes, you can. There should be an opening to reach in between the oven glass panels from bottom of oven door. May take a few times wiping to get it all clean. Use a metal hanger.
there is a good video on oven cleaner here is the formula ....2oz Dawn dish soap, 4oz Lemmon Juice, 8oz Vinigar, 10 oz water. great cleaner can use on glass as well but do not spray it on the door sealer that should never be soaked,
You can try wet sanding with 2000 or 1200 grit sandpaper. The smoother paper even leaves a polish on the glass. My stovetop looks brand new after I sanded down the marks on it.
It blows my mind that people own a glass top stove and don't know about using the scraper. A scraper is part of glass top stove care kits sold pretty much everywhere.
I think she meant going back and forth, not side to side. I thought the same thing but she explained it when someone asked the same thing. Confusing right?
Just spray with Easy Off oven cleaner and leave for an hour. Come back and wipe with a damp paper towel. Then dry with a clean paper towel. Shiny as new and no scrubbing, no blades. Doesn't hurt the glass. This is way overkill.
Hi which easy off, they yellow can or the blue one.I used the yellow one before and it cleaned it good but I left like a shadow.Dont know how to explain it.
@@nayelimendez2185 I usually buy cheaper can, the one in cabinet right now is yellow. Usually leave on more than an hour (2-3 hours or all afternoon). After cleaning with oven cleaner and wiped off, I'll usually go over with Windex or water using clean paper towel. Sparkling like new. Good luck!
I have a glass top stove and I simply don’t let my glass top get that dirty. I just don’t continue to cook on it if it got food on it!! Work smart, not hard.
I used Dawn and sprinkled regular table salt on the glass surface. It worked beautifully! Dawn dissolved the grease and salt was the abrasive! Ended up with a clean, shiny cooking surface without a lot of scrubbing and scraping!!!
Since your using the baking soda then scraping it off i think vinegar and soup &water would work better. It takes off grease and harden soap scum. I also use razor blade in the bath tub with my solution i just said.
I use easy off oven cleaner lol I let it sit for about 15 minutes then wipe it off , no scrubbing , if any is still there I spray again. I’ve had my glass top stove for 15 years.
I clean my stove daily. Don't have a heavy gease build up, but didnt think of using oven spray and will try; however, I have a small George Freeman grill and I use the oven clearner.
When I got my ceramic cooktop in 1991(which I still use most days - now 2019) I got a scraper with razor blade to scrape off burnt on stuff. I read the instructions which said to turn that hot plate off immediately and scrape stuff off then wipe over before continuing using it. I’ve also kept a sponge just for the cooktop as per instructions as well as only using a cream cleaner on it. Cooktop still looks really good and has only needed service guy once since new. If things are treated right they stay good and keep working.
Wow. Talk about a delicate appliance, that can't hold up to the use it was intended for. And it required a service call once? You know, I've had stoves for decades. Not once have I had to have a service call. Appliances aren't made to last, any more, or handle the normal tasks they're intended for.
Great video, I’m sure most people clean up each time they cook, so it really wouldn’t be this bad, but a good example😳🤗Thank You. I agree I would love to have a gas stove!!!👍
I don't have build up but one of my burners has a dull discolor middle n don't know if it can be fixed. My grandson done it some how. Please advise thank you
I love mine also! I clean the top every time I do dishes and even though I've had mine for about 7 years, it looks brand new! Don't let the mess accumulate on it! Clean it! I've never had to resort to any drastic cleaning methods!
What is that back metal piece on your stove? They delivered our stove and told us we had to get one, since our stove is a few inches from the wall and I have no idea what it's called. Funny, after spending so much money for a stove and they can't even tell me what that metal part is. I'm afraid a pot is going to sit against our drywall and catch our house on fire...:-(
If you put it down, cover it with a damp cleaning cloth. and just let it it for 15 minutes. It will rehydrate the burned on stuff... make sit WAY easier to remove.
Omg you scared me with tgat razor. Lol It sounds like it’s scratching the heck out of the top. I also use weimans, but the one in the tub with special sponge
Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing this updated video. I had a sugar rum glaze boil over last night. While it's 90% removed, the last of it might require doing the razor technique. I'm hesitant to do it but this video shows it can be done without damaging the glass. I use the Weiman's cleaner to and it does a great job.
Renee the only thing I can see she's doing wrong is you need to keep your surface wet at all times you can use whatever she's using but make sure you keep it wet because once it gets dry with no liquid on it it can scratch I do the razor blade all the time and I've never had a problem with that scratching unless you run a liquid while you're scraping to keep it dry I mean I'm sorry to keep it wet
I misspoke. What I'm trying to say is not to angle the blade where you gouge the stove, but go back and forth in a direction working on a section until you feel that section has the gunk removed.
@@maureen14 because she hold the tool flat on the surface. The class top don't scratch up that fast then you think. You also move pots and pans far and back.
My apartment has one of these stoves and I'm not a fan of it. I miss having a gas stove. Gas is cleaner cheaper and more efficient to cook with than electric.
How is gas cleaner when it’s hard to clean it, I have tons of burns and ash from it, we now use induction and it’s better it don’t leave stains because the surface doesn’t burn
After watching this, I will stick with my gas range lol. My daughter has one of these and although her entire house is spotless, the stove always shows soilage.
I got a good deal on a stove with two ovens and the only drawback was that it had a ceramic top. But I've been learning how to clean it and totally love it. I use Bar Keepers Friend for my cleaning. It's marvelous.
I've had my glass top stove for about 5 years and wipe it after each use. If you let it get burned on then you have to use a razor. I've done that a couple of times. I like to keep mine clean all the time because that also keeps the bottoms of my pots from getting stained. It only takes a quick spray and wipe, not much different than wiping off your countertops, which most people do every day anyway.
Thank you I am the same way. Razor blade and Cerama Bryte cleaner that you can buy at Home Depot. I found that anything else does not take the greasy film off.
IT IS MUCH EASIER TO CLEAN IT EVERY TIME YOU USE IT . I HAVE HAD MY GLASS TOP FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO CLEAN GUCK OFF IT . IT STILL HAS THE NEW SHINE !!!
also you should never use a razor blade on top of your glass stove cuz you can scratch that glass and if you scratch the glass and it gets too hot it will shatter trust me I know I used to sell appliances. Just use the vinegar and baking soda and you will never have to use a razor blade on it

Why do you say my wife's stove and not our stove..?
@@eumelinchen62 Very simple she picked it and she uses it far more than I. We have a simple understanding I carry the money in and the packages out.
Thanks alot for the video.....i've learned something from you
After washing the glass top with oven cleaner and a razor scraper I used an electric automotive buffer, rubbing compound and then automotive No 3 cut Meguiar's polishing paste to clean and polish it in about 15 minutes. My wife was blown away LOL...
You are so funny I forgot to laugh
That's right. These stoves are so easy to keep clean. Never use cleaners on mine either and I would never use an abrasive.
I sometimes use my glass burner to reheat flour tortillas. Sometimes not a good idea. Anyways your method really gets it clean.
What about using oven cleaner?
Maureen R. Spray oven cleaner does it well 👍
Love my glass top stove. I clean it every time I do dishes with Cerama Bryte cleaner and it shines just like the day it was installed. The trick is don't let food get baked on over several uses before cleaning.
If you’d wipe it off every time you spill something you wouldn’t have to go through all of that.
tsunami3240 To get greasy film off you do
I used a butter knife once, because my oven mitt glove got burnt onto the stove, and I didn’t have a razor blade, but I sprayed it with vinegar and water, and scraped it off, I hope I didn’t ruin the glass. 🤔
OMG! My stove looks like new! Thank you.
I love my glass top ,I think it is so easy to clean , as long as you do it regularly.
I totally agree. I clean my glass top at the same time when i wash my dishes and it is always clean.
Use a metal hanger.
there is a good video on oven cleaner here is the formula ....2oz Dawn dish soap, 4oz Lemmon Juice, 8oz Vinigar, 10 oz water. great cleaner can use on glass as well but do not spray it on the door sealer that should never be soaked,
Oh wow, that was amazing. I used a new pan and it left silver scratches on the cooktop, and I'm wondering if there is away to get rid of it?
You can try wet sanding with 2000 or 1200 grit sandpaper. The smoother paper even leaves a polish on the glass.
My stovetop looks brand new after I sanded down the marks on it.
What was the last product you used? I heard lemon but didn't hear the rest.
Ppl
I use baking soda after cooking or Weimann. I never let it build up. Love glass top stove. Would never go back to gas or electric rings.
Oh Weimann is a really good product that you also can use to get stainless steel spot free.
Have you tried cleaning with vinegar and baking soda? It works wonders
What would the ratio be?
Where did you get the blade and handle from?
Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target, Amazon any where that sell home supplies
It blows my mind that people own a glass top stove and don't know about using the scraper. A scraper is part of glass top stove care kits sold pretty much everywhere.
At the 3:50 time, you said the razor won't scratch if you go in one direction but don't I see you going in every direction?
😂
I think she meant going back and forth, not side to side. I thought the same thing but she explained it when someone asked the same thing. Confusing right?
The best solution... clean your stove during and after each use!! If you choose to let it get this built up just use oven cleaner!!
where did you get the yellow handle for the razor blade
Any where that sell home supplies, Home Depot, Lowes that type of store
What kind of razor is that? Where do I buy it? Thanks!
Have e ver Added up the 🕙 u spend doing this? My moms stove took half the 🕙 & is still. Working! !! I owned one of these_ _never again! !!#😒
Yes I will take the ones that have a reservoir.
That’s warm water, Dawn, baking soda and . . . what’s the 3rd stuff you added? Thank you!
Bert Lacatan yes....couldn’t understand the LAST one either
Lemi-Shine
Is it a glass cleaner that u use to spray at end of this video
I used Dawn and sprinkled regular table salt on the glass surface. It worked beautifully! Dawn dissolved the grease and salt was the abrasive! Ended up with a clean, shiny cooking surface without a lot of scrubbing and scraping!!!
Since your using the baking soda then scraping it off i think vinegar and soup &water would work better. It takes off grease and harden soap scum. I also use razor blade in the bath tub with my solution i just said.
Hi Crystal. Thanks for this great tip.
I'm going to try that on my stove! I have a few stubborn spots!
I use Bar Keepers Friend. Works perfect!
I got a gas stove with a glass top
How rude
I don't have build up but one of my burners has a dull discolor middle n don't know if it can be fixed. My grandson done it some how. Please advise thank you
Merrick curlin😊m errimack curling
mine isn't built up its a dull spot in the middle n I can't get it to shine
Where do you buy the razor tool you have?
Where can I buy the scraper?
And what’s the name of it
Wal-Mart or the dollar store. That's a window scraper that you would use for your car window to scrape off the ice your welcome.
I love my glass top stove!
I love mine also! I clean the top every time I do dishes and even though I've had mine for about 7 years, it looks brand new! Don't let the mess accumulate on it! Clean it! I've never had to resort to any drastic cleaning methods!
Great alternative stove top cleaner. Going to do it!
I'm here because my wife bought a ceramic stovetop. ill be updating once a buy a razer.
Thanks for the tips
What is that back metal piece on your stove? They delivered our stove and told us we had to get one, since our stove is a few inches from the wall and I have no idea what it's called. Funny, after spending so much money for a stove and they can't even tell me what that metal part is. I'm afraid a pot is going to sit against our drywall and catch our house on fire...:-(
Perfect thanks 🙏for your great tips on cleaning the glass top stove. I will get to work on mine now I know it could look as good as your 👍💐
When I first read this (without my reading glasses on) I read "Watch Me Clean Glass Naked on Stove Top". Anyway very good video Crystal! :)
😂😂
If you put it down, cover it with a damp cleaning cloth. and just let it it for 15 minutes. It will rehydrate the burned on stuff... make sit WAY easier to remove.
Where did you get that style razor knife and the razors?
Home Depot sells the kit for glass top stoves and it includes the scraper and scrubbing pads.
Thank u I bought new stove and it’s already needing a cleaning and I’m super careful
Excellent .thank you very much
Every Five years you clean your stove ? Bravo 👏
I will try this one, really need to clean my stove waah! Thank"s lot for this idea.
Pam HappyLife razor blade and water
Wow! Great job!
Omg you scared me with tgat razor. Lol
It sounds like it’s scratching the heck out of the top.
After I used the stove I cleaning it with warm water and a fiberclot, no chemicals just warmwater. If you Do that there is no need for bog cleaning
Nice video looks like a lot of the staining was removed. There was still a wear “ring” on both the main burners but I’m thinking that can’t be fixed.
Plastic razor blades work without the risk of surface scratches.
what is holding the blade in what kind of holder and where to get it.
Steel and charred carbon can both scratch the surface.
Also. Use some glass polish on it after and it’ll shine like a new penny!
Awesome.
This is such great cleaning method ❤
"As long as you do it in one direction" ... immediately proceeds to alternate direction
I misspoke. What I'm trying to say is not to angle the blade where you gouge the stove, but go back and forth in a direction working on a section until you feel that section has the gunk removed.
I noticed that too. She's going in all different directions. How does this not scratch the top??
Instructions unclear, got dick caught in ceiling fan.
That was kind of mean....
@@maureen14 because she hold the tool flat on the surface. The class top don't scratch up that fast then you think. You also move pots and pans far and back.
Good 👍🏼
I like using vinegar afterward. It makes it sparkle.
I agree. I like vinegar in a spray bottle. So convenient
No one should allow it to get this bad. Clean regularly.
@WELL forPETES sake i believe it was just an excuse for not being embarrassed 😏😂
The best cleaner for your stove top is oven cleaner. It's the best ever.!!!!!!!
what is the spray you used at the end?
It's Lemi Shine glass cleaner.
Will any glass cleaner do?
I clean my stove with a razor after I cook each meal. I never had a cake buildup.
Yes, I am with you. I clean my stove after every use. Maybe over the top but during the day I wipe off any finger prints too.
Show off😂
SOS pad works great for me
also you should never use a razor blade on top of your glass stove cuz you can scratch that glass and if you scratch the glass and it gets too hot it will shatter trust me I know I used to sell appliances. Just use the vinegar and baking soda and you will never have to use a razor blade on it
ThePrime206 why do they sell ceramic hob scrapers that are the same as razor blades then?
@@michaelagood9358 that's a very good question that you ask the reason that's a dude this is so that I'm expecting consumers will damage the top of their glass cook surface and then over a. Of time like I said if the scratch is deep enough it will eventually shatter and trust me it has happened I've seen it
Dawn is the most effective. I have no idea why though.
you say scrape in one direction, then you go start scraping it back & forth lol
Ikr 😂😂😂
I guess it was so much dirt on it that she couldn't remove it with a one way scrape direction 😂😂😂
