I had no idea this got retracted! Glad it got that but I’m also happy I got to experience it when it was super rough!
Indeed
Not only the wide steel rail on the left hand side of the track going down the first drop looks new, but it looks like they added a whole lot more diagonal bracing inside that first loop. I remember the days in the 80's when I was one of those in charge of restoring it, I was staunch in my stance that it had to be restored EXACTLY like it was built in 1925. I actually redesigned the motor house and that room attached to the boarding platform. I remember when me and Marty assembled and hung up the chaser lights. I'm the one who did the original pink and green color scheme. Later, I understood modifications had to be made (new trains, air-brakes instead of the old weight and pulley system). I'm glad it's still there, ironically when it was abandoned through the 80's, I sat on top of the hills and dreamed of the days it might once again run. It was like my own private club house where I could get away from my constant feelings of inadequacy. Yet, when I started working for the company that came in to operate it, it became THE place where all those feelings bombarded me and now I long for those days when it was still, quite, just her and I.
Amazing story. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
I never liked that Pepto bismol pink & green color. The red & white stands out much better!!! 👍🎢
@@bartonpercival3216 I can understand that, but it was the 80's. It is kind of cool to see those colors still existing on murals on buildings around town, illustrations on commercials and on peoples paintings. I always think to myself, "I came up with that!!"
@@timothycole5266 Yeah I understand, I remember the 80's 😆
Had no idea it got retracked and I live nearby. Last rode it in December and was so disappointed because it was so rough. Glad to see Belmont Park gave it so much needed TLC.
I always used to get an instant headache on this coaster because it was so rough. Guess I’ll head over there tomorrow and give the new track a try.
Looks really smooth now, yet looks as though it'll still toss you around a bit. Just like a good wooden coaster should be!
This looks like how it was running in 2009-2010 when I fell in love with roller coasters on it! Very nice to see.
My family rode that several times in the early 70s… glad it’s still around. Thanks for posting this.
Considering I saw an older kid crying after this in August, this was well needed
I already loved this ride, really need to check it out now!!!!
Very cool!
Smooth!!
Very cool.
new track looking cute
Gorgeous perfection
Wow they did a beautiful job with this!
Great POV. I rode this anywhere from 16-20 times in one day in march 2023 (so before the re-track). My thighs hurt so freaking much after that lol. One airtime moment that really caught me off-guard was at about 1:01.
Man I miss this little gem, I moved to Georgia and don't make it out to Calli near as much as I'd like to. Looks so much better now.
DANG that is smooth
Very much a surprise that this got a retrack because man, it was quite a rough one back in the day! Might have to go back one of these days and give it a whirl!
This roller coaster sounds much like the Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland. It is one of three surviving roller coasters designed by Prior and Church. All of them have Morgan trains. I have ridden the Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland for many years now. I have not missed riding it at least once each season since 1989 with the exception of 2020 when the park of closed for the season due to the COVID pandemic.
That retrack might save it from being in my bottom 3 coasters of all time
I really wish they would have kept the original color scheme. It was perfect for a beach front coaster like this. I am glad it is running much better, though. I rode it about fifteen years ago and thought it was quite fun for it's age.
The color is barely different from the original color. In 1925 it was all white, except the slats between the tracks were turqouise.
I think he's talking about when the wooden tracks were green and the top railing were that awful Pepto bismol pink! 🤮
Grizzly, check
Mineblower, check (if you ask some)
The Beast, check
Wolverine Wildcat, check
Coney Island Cyclone, check
So many wooden coasters have been given new life thanks to amazing retrack technology. Truly amazing to see!
It’s still wood right?
Yes
When was it retracked?
When did this get retracked? I rode this in october and it was really rough.
I understand over the last month. It reopened this past weekend.
While it looks smoother all the track still looks old. Is there a reason for that?
Ok
