- Take a front and back row ride on the historic 1925 Giant Dipper at Belmont Park in San Diego. One of three remaining coasters from the legendary designers Prior & Church.
Thank you to the folks at Belmont Park for allowing us to film while riding Giant Dipper. Was done with a chest mounted camera. Do not film on rides without permission and the proper safety measures.

I first rode this coaster sixty years ago and most recently a month ago and I can attest, it will beat you up!
Wow that's impressive!
Such a beautiful coaster with a very interesting history!
Indeed! We are very lucky it's still around.
@@AmericasCoasterNetworkI rode it one time, and BOY! IT WAS INTENSE!
They need to do something with that dark tunnel at the beginning of the ride. Put in some special optical effects or something like that to make it more exciting.
But, being in the dark IS the exciting part. I wouldn't change a thing.
I agree. The 1924 SCBB Giant Dipper also has a great dark fast scary tunnel at the beginning of the ride. That's what makes these 2 coasters great!!!!!!! 👍🎢
That was the most bumpiest ride ive ever been on
Darn. Yeah, it's hit or miss. The rides we got when filming were pretty darn good.
Those people in the 1920's knew how to have a wild coaster ride! LOL
I've never been fortunate to go Belmont Park in San Diego so I haven't got to ride this Giant Dipper but I rode the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that was shown in the movies. I have 4 DVD movies ( Sudden Impact, The Lost Boys, Bumblebee,& Us)
I rode this today!
The last time I rode that thing was in June of 2008. It either got new train cars, or they just repainted them.
Yeah. A new years back they gave the track a new color. As well as updated colors and logo on the trains.
@@AmericasCoasterNetwork
They replaced the trains a few years back.
This ride was fun as heck but my neck hurt after being flung around a lot 😂
How smooth was it running? They just redid all the track.
@@AmericasCoasterNetwork depends on how recently you mean, I went on it a few months ago and it was pretty rough, but I don’t know if it’s the same rough as some of these other comments
Went on it with my sister today and it was rough
Sorry to hear that.
@@AmericasCoasterNetwork It’s fine we were laughing after😂
This ride freaking hurts!
It was running great when we went. But can have rough rides too.
Bro seriously! We just got done there a couple hours ago and I’ve been looking around to see if anyone has said how bad this coaster hurt 🤣🤣 threw my neck out
Is it still rough or have they improved it?
It had a couple rough spots. But was running pretty good. With that said, I love it no matter what.
They’ve been retracking this thing in the off season so hopefully that will improve the ride experience. I love this thing but it will beat you up especially on a wheel seat and it’s hard to re ride
Great to hear that! Yeah, it's always hit or miss when we ride. When this POV was shot, with the exception of the bottom of the first drop, it was running pretty good. What a gem of a coaster!
Y'all probably never rode it back in the '70s. It was renamed the "Earthquake" for a reason.
This ride is so fun me and my friend went on it but we alomast fell off bc the peolple Beind us control the seats and there was a big person behind us so the seats went really high
It’s rough. I couldn’t bend my neck for a day after riding it.
Darn. That stinks. Really hit or miss.
how rough would you say it is? is it rougher or smoother than Blue Streak at Cedar Point? chain has an interesting sound
It depends on the day. It can be rougher than Blue Streak. Or about the same. Usually rougher. But I still love it. So beautiful to look at. And what an amazing view as well! Also, happy you mentioned that lift hill sound. It's one of my favorites. Almost musical.
Is it just me or is no one screaming
It was a mostly empty train. But, yeah, not a lot of screaming.
