Just to add some context to this album, it was developped at the same time as an animated movie called Interstella 5555 (The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem) which was released one year later and is basically a 1h10 long clip for the album. I feel like the songs and the pacing make way more sense while coupled with the movie, and I would 100% recommand watching it. Anyway another good vid keep it up!
toonami premiering interstella during the midnight run turned a lot of people on to daft punk for the first time, myself included. still in my top 10 fave albums of all time
Discovery has got to be one of the best feel-good albums of all time. Every track’s a banger and it’s almost impossible not to bob your head along to the beats
Digital Love is one of my favorite songs ever. Also- you would love Depression Cherry by Beach House considering how much you loved Bloom. It’s some of the most beautiful stuff I’ve ever heard.

Bruh he's back into the electronic music reviews, and with Daft Punk of all artists! This album has a very special place in my heart and I'm so happy you got to experience it and appreciate it. Fav track for me is Voyager, that bassline is funk funk funk.
Hey Smags. If you ever feel like re-listening to this album, i recomend you check out Interstella 5555. Is an animated movie made to go with the album. Sort of like a music video, it really complements the album and is a worth experience.
Also, vibing hard to Something About Us is absolutely the right thing to do. I've long held that it's one of Daft Punks' best works and it's good to see people come around to/appreciate it the right way
everyone knows one more time, but to me aerodynamic is when the album truly reveals itself. one of the greatest guitar solos of all time on a fucking french house album, lmao. they went fucking crazy
10/10 album man, so ahead of it’s time but also sampling the songs of old, that Daft Punk themselves grew up with and love. That’s why it feels so nostalgic! Digital Love makes me cry dude. Such an amazing album, really showing what electronic music could be, I hope if you enjoyed it, you also eventually do Random Access Memories, very different in style, but oh so good.
Wonderful choice, as always. Speaking of wonderful choices, you should choose Blue Rev by Alvvays as your next reaction. One of the best albums of the past couple years. Indie rock/alt pop with some hints of shoegaze. It's a pretty short listen too.
literally discovered you like 4 days bro but i love the channel, if i hadn’t already listened to half these albums i’d definitely make a similar channel myself lol. Anyways, can’t wait for RAM soon ( and hopefully do room of fire soon )
I concur. 'Justice - Cross' is the album. Somewhere during this review I was reminded of that one too, it's the same era for music and sound, different but not unlike Daft Punk. Worth checking out
Love your videos man you really pay attention to what’s going on, would love if you react to Up the Bracket by The Libertines, an influential band that perhaps doesn’t get enough recognition
For those of you who are curious about the sampling work (pioneered by the likes of Todd Edwards) done on Discovery, check out Tracklib’s video on it which basically breaks down those samples, reconstructs the song, and then plays the actual song back to back. Really cool. Also if you’re extra curious, Bandstand has an expanded video on Daft Punk’s samples outside of their work on Discovery.
Love the videos! A few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan or White Pony - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
A crazy listen for the channel would be Jane Doe by Converge. So many genres have been changed and started because of this album, combining elements of punk, hardcore, metal, noise, and even mathy elements. May be a harsh listen but theres 0 stops to take a breath, constant energy
Smags, I implore you with all my heart to listen to Promises by Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders. It is in my top 3 albums of all time even though it's only come out two years ago. This was Sanders' last record before he passed- it is a 45 minute long spiritual jazz piece composed in 9 movements. It's my current pick for the best album of the decade so far. I cannot recommend this to you enough.
Babe wake up new Season of Smags just dropped I agree about the last two tracks. Always loved this album but it kinda ends on a dud. 'Too Long' is just that imo I know you liked Long Season and 98.12.28, I'd be curious what you thought about Uchu Nippon Setagaya or one of their earlier albums like Orange.
