It's so pretty but like hauntingly beautiful. "Your little feet working the machine / my little dream working the machine" always makes me so emotional
If you haven't checked Demon Days yet, you realy should! It's side by side with Plastic Beach in terms of quality, creativity and concept, but with a darker tone
The mastermind behind Gorillaz is Damon Albarn who also achieved success with his other group Blur and made some great albums like Think Tank, 13, Parklife, The Great Escape... You should definitely check out and react to some of these.
Whoo, amazing you did Gorillaz! The non-feature male vocals are by Damon Albarn, the creative mind behind this whole project. He is also the lead singer of the band Blur, which I recommend for you to check it out, especially "Parklife" and "13"!

Some Kind Of Nature and The Wanderlust off of Metric's Synthetica (the album which also contains Lost Kitten and Breathing Underwater) was some of the last music work that Lou Reed contributed to before his passing
Saw them tour for this album in 2010. Everyone was on stage at one point it was a choir and full orchestra on stage. I've been to probably close up another 1000 shows since and this one will always be in the top 5
Voted for it 😅 for me plastic beach is a masterpiece, just looking your face when synth smashes in crescendo in Empire Ants 🐜 before little dragon lyrics 😊 that’s how it is. Great reaction ❤
Every Gorilaz album is a murderers row of features and sampled vocals. I remembered Bobby Womack sample but forgot about Mark E. Smith (from the Fall). If you have not listened to a Fall album it sure is a trip. Recommend the Wonderful & Frightening World of the Fall or this Nations Saving Grace as a start.
@@celsoch wow! For some reason I thought that Bobby had already passed by the time this album came out. My chronology is all messed up. It's amazing how much cache Damon has to pull so many big names into his projects.
You got a new sub! Btw rhinestones are fake diamonds. So in rhinestone eyes when Damon says your loves like rhinestones, falling from the sky, he means fake love. And To Binge is about a relationship getting ruined by abusing drugs and alcohol. And you can watch self titled productions vids on Gorillaz lore if you want to learn the story.
You have to listen to The Fall! Mark E Smith was the vocalist and band leader. Try This Nation's Saving Grace or Bend Sinister. They made many many albums but those are great albums to start with
This might be one of the first albums you've covered that I was shocked you hadn't listened to yet, but I'm so glad you listened to it now. To me, Demon Days is still THE Gorillaz materpiece. But Plastic Beach is a close number 2.
That is nice. I really liked the Gorillaz when I was a kid and they had just started releasing music, and I would've recommended you their first self-titled album or Demon Days over this one for sure. Seeing their music videos on MTV at the time set a clear tone for their creative style which accompanied the music really well. The combination made them more palatable and pretty fresh/cool to a wide audience. Jumping into this album without knowledge of the videos, the hype or the music that came before is bound to be a chaotic and confusing introduction in my opinion. But it's also not really my jam except for maybe 2 or 3 songs, yet other people seem to love this one. I used to be a big fan and I think the Gorillaz are great, but I also haven't really listened to them in almost two decades and they probably won't make my playlist anymore, since their songs already live rent-free in my head anyway. 🦍
Yeah, that’s how I felt for the longest time. I was a Gorillaz megafan as a kid, and honestly stopped listening to them by the time “Plastic Beach” had come out. “Stylo” was a terrible choice for the first single. I had moved onto 60’s and 70’s experimental music. In recent years, I’ve finally gotten around to “Plastic Beach” and “The Fall”, and have since re-evaluated my feelings on Damon’s work a second time. To me, “The Fall” is the last great Gorillaz album, and everything Damon has made since then bores me. But I can’t lie to myself that he’s not a creative genius, especially factoring in Blur’s “Think Tank” and the first The Good, the Bad & The Queen album. “Demon Days” and “D-Sides” will always represent major peaks to me, as well. It may not be for everyone, but I’d rather listen to this to stay on top of current sounds vs. the auotuned garbage with generic chord progressions that passes off as music these days.
Album recommendations: Waiting to Spill- The backseat lovers When we Were Friends- The backseat lovers Something you needed- Flipturn Shadowglow- Flipturn Songs- Adrianne Lenker Unreal Unearth- Hozier Close to Paradise- Patrick Watson Young Americans- David Bowie Everything so far- Pinegrove RMCM- Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners Good For You- Houndmouth The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We- Mitski
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
I have to second the Sampha album. Everything he does is magic. I wish more people reacted to the features he did for SBTRKT back in 2011. It's some of his best work.
This and Demon Days are two of my all time favourite albums (DD was the first CD I ever bought myself). My favourite of the two just depends on the day of the week!!
Recommend you look into Gorillaz lore before you dive into any more of their albums. Demon Days is amazing and possibly essential in their discography but I think you’d be impressed with Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez 🍻
i think you would like Demon Days a tiny bit more than this one, it has a lil less hip hop and goes to some diff places musically that i think are more your thing. (also, obligatory Bright Eyes request 🤠)
love this album but fuck a poll, dropping this on the anniversary of Cosmogramma’s release date is damn near disrespectful FIX THIS, NEPHEW, WE BELIEVE IN YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING
Empire Ants ascends me every single time. My favourite Gorillaz tune
i wish I forgot this song so I could experience it again
It's so pretty but like hauntingly beautiful. "Your little feet working the machine / my little dream working the machine" always makes me so emotional
Best song no contest
Yukimi has such an amazing voice
Which is why Little Dragon should be the next reaction
Demon Days has got to be your next stop. Absolutely Essential Gorillaz.
And after that Song Machine would be amazing as well
@@Irrelevant210i think humanz and the now now are both better albums, i think song machine dropped the ball
biblically accurate reaction to empire ants
Plastic Beach is IMO Gorillaz' best album. Pop masterpiece. (also listen to duck stab by the residents)
I think for grit and nostalgia, Demon Days just barely edges it out. But yeah it’s a masterpiece regardless
the residents would be such a funny reaction
As good as Demon Days and the self-titled are Plastic Beach is definitely their best.
HAVEN'T CLICKED ON A SMAGS VIDEO THIS FAST! LFGGGG!!!! 😤😤😤

It's not samples, they actually recorded their vocals on studio just for Plastic Beach. Both even performed live with the band on the tour

One of my favorite albums of all time, when it came out my older sister bought me the vinyl. I still have it and it sounds incredible
