Both batteries are wired together in parallel. The volt meter is reading volts for the whole system, both batteries with the alternator running. Stop/start system is designed not to work if state of charge for whole system is under seventy percent. That's why you have a warning on your instrument cluster stating battery charging. The small battery will start to die first since both the batteries are not the same size. Eventually it will short out draining the larger battery, causing it to short out. The dealership wouldn't replace my batteries unless SOC (state of charge)was below fifty percent. Their tech said state of charge was sixty percent. My warranty runs out in six months so I bought a portabale lithium jump starter. Now just waiting for both batteries to go so I can replace both at the same time. Stop/start not working as system was designed.
Crazy , I have the same problem with my 2019 jeep wrangler JL. Changed the key fob battery and it seems to work ,but we will see. Thank you for your info.....
That dash battery voltage readout is total combined for both batteries. You need to have each battery disconnected and tested separately for health report. I was having same issue for over a year. Then on 4th yr of ownership and cross country trip the truck stalled 2 hours from home. I jump started it with litho hand battery kit and carried on but had batteries tested and main showed failure. Replaced with high end Optima. No issues so far.
When my Sport S had the same problem with the auto stop my dealer replaced both the small aux battery and the main battery. that took care of the problem on my Gladiator!
I agree with your comment about leaving the truck at the dealership. I recently had a passenger side sun-visor break on my JLU Wrangler. It’s under warranty so I called to schedule an appointment to have it replaced. They gave me a date 5 weeks out and stated it was for “diagnosis only” of the broken visor. They needed to do that to justify the warranty work. So that meant I would’ve been required to return for a 2nd time to the dealer to replace the part. Also, after speaking to the service dept, I called the parts dept to see if I could get one myself. They were all out due to these things constantly breaking. So I ended driving 100 miles to another dealer to get the part (on my dime) and replaced the visor myself.
There is one other battery to consider, the key fob battery is also a part of the auto start/stop system. If the key fob battery is low it will prevent the system from working and will give the error indicator as well as the check engine indicator.
The first week I owned my Gladiator the dealer replaced the aux battery due to it not charging and throwing up the warning light, no issues since last Feb.
Mine goes from 13.8 to 14.3 and it’s fine but still can’t get the aux battery to charge and it is brand new had it in now for about 2000 miles so mine should charge so I am still chasing gremlins
Not related, but you could probably drop your tire pressure down a bit. 33s should be around 30 psi cold. Bigger tire=less pressure. BUT unless you have a programer, it might set off your TPMS light. I run 28psi cold in my 35s.
@@randallupton3622 yea i think they just use the same sticker. It will give better fuel economy because less tire is contacting the road. That's probably the main reason they did that.
Had the battery charging message with the same high voltage. Replaced both batteries and no change. However, I unplugged and replugged the battery monitor on the negative terminal of the main cranking battery and all is working again. Don't just undo the negative terminal with the monitor. Undo the plug with the 2 small wires to it and plug it back in. Hope it helps.
My 2021 gladiator fluctuates between 12.2 and 14.1. When I am accelerating… It drops down to 12.2. When I let off the Excelerator it goes back up to 14.1. I don’t know what’s going on with my battery or alternator but something is awry.
My same thought. The alternator should kick on when the battery needs charging and not continuing to run or it will burn out. Pull the top battery and check the alt battery voltage.
I dunno know Rob. This thing is perhaps a little more complicated than just that dash readout tells us. Is the aux battery on an isolator? Does it get charged by the smart alternator only when needed? I think you summed it out pretty good at the end. Dealer should look at it while its under warranty.
I have seen on the gladiator forums, people who don't turn the button off having issues. They stop and start so many times that the battery runs down and when they come to a light, they pick their foot up and the truck doesn't start. The regular battery will not restart the truck.
My 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2 door, 2L turbo, has 21k miles on it, has never been off road and has had all of the following problems: Replacement of metal gasket that failed leaving me stranded with no coolant. Pinched wires causing the internal lights to malfunction. Check engine light due to a CO2 sensor failing. Recall on the steering wheel gear box replaced. Recall for possible leaking gas lines. Auto start stop failure caused a replacement with many visits to the shop: Auxiliary battery. Main computer. Electronics module. Alternator. Many miles added to the Jeep during test drives by the certified Jeep dealer. To solve the problem they just replaced the Main battery and gave it back to me. ... Something is still drawing on the battery and it is just a matter of time until it fails again.
I got a 2021 wrangler rubicon and mine does the same thing. I made several videos of the light coming on and showed the dealership they told me that if they can’t get the light to come on there’s nothing wrong with it. So a week later the light comes on and I brought it to the dealership they tell me no one is available to look at it. I left it with them 10 days later I got it back and they said could not duplicate problem. On my way home you guessed it the light came on. They have no desire to fix it. I wish I would have bought a Toyota.
Batteries are toes together disconnect battery cables from main battery now use a volt meter and touch battery cables this will give you a true reading of the secondary battery
2020 gladiator 14k miles had both batterys replaced today stop start did not work ac/heat cluster malfunction $1100 at dealer no a warranty issue oh lucky me.
From my understanding the Auto start is ran off a second battery. And that it does not come off the main feed. When I spoke with the parts / service department. Being from the number one jeep dealer in the country. Jerry ulm Tampa. Which they told me that I can see in my owner's manual. Which is why I feel.like that would be the issue I hope maybe this helps.
Whoa big fella! Better back off the caffeine a tad! You got caffeine muscles in the morning. Pointing that camera at the wife when she's in her jammies! Brave or crazy?!!!
I think you will see the 48volt system in the gladiator next year. It does away with the aux battery and relies on a belt start generator to do the stop start systems. It’s standard in the wrangler 3.6 now. Maybe that will solve all these issues.
You may be delighted to know that CR has given given the 2020 Jeep Gladiator a reliability rating of 99, which is the highest I believe of any model on the year.
My Gladiator had the Start/Stop quit working a couple of weeks ago, no warning light on the dash, it just didn’t die at stops. I was scrolling through screens on the dash when I came to the Start/Stop screen. After the Jeep warmed up, it said “Start/Stop not ready, battery charging”. This didn’t ever change to being ready. The dealer checked and replaced both batteries. Problem solved!
Was is an actual problem or is that normal. Cause my 2019 grand Cherokee has just been starting to that too, maybe it always has and never noticed and I have been thinking about it ever since, it’s stressful thinking I may have a problem! ☹️
Rob, why do you not take this to a mechanic? If your dealer cannot find this issue then it's worth your while to find another dealership that can do this for you. You have a warranty and they are obligated to fix it for no charge. Posting RUclips videos about it with speculations about what the problem is not the answer my friend.

Sound like your alternator has a loose connection or its bad completly. When engine is on it should always draw around 14 volts. Engine off 12 volts.
This is normal. The charging rate drops when accelerating to put less of a load on the alternator and allow the engine to create more HP.
My same thought. The alternator should kick on when the battery needs charging and not continuing to run or it will burn out. Pull the top battery and check the alt battery voltage.
That makes sense to me too. Surely it’s designed that way🤔

Have you removed the auto start/stop eliminator that you put in a while back?
