Add me to the club. I replaced my aux battery last weekend and the new one must have not been fully charged because both batteries were dead when I went to start it 6 days later. I couldn't even jump start it. I also tried jump starting it using the first post under fuse box, which supposedly jump starts the aux battery, but the engine sputtered and died as soon as I removed the jump start cables. So thanks to this video, I removed FUSE 42 and the negative aux cable and it worked like a charm. It jump started right up and kept running after removing jump start cables. It appears the main battery is now able to recharge as it restarted after running for only a few minutes. This video was a lifesaver. Thank you for posting and for the helpful comments below.
The batteries are wired in parallel. It makes no sense to have them be different sizes. The removal of the aux batter in a parallel circuit has no effect on the main battery. I am guessing that the aux batt was bad and it drained the main which is why you needed to get it jumped. I think if you had removed the ess fuse it might have jumped properly. Glad you are sorted
Omg yes it’s the other one not the one he tapped!!!! I just said this and so far I only got one warning just patiently waiting to see how this plays out pray for me guys!!!!! Oh and for my 2020 Gladiator!
So I decided to give it a shot, got a 2018 JLU and like everyone else was saying it's the other cable that needed to be removed. So I tried that at first, started the Jeep, and light and warning still came on. So I disconnected the other cable and tried it, but got nothing at all, reconnected the first one and low and behold the warning light doesn't come on now! Thank you!
Ran into this same issue while playing in Colorado. I pulled the neg cable, pulled the fuse and no more issues. After we got back, i pulled the passenger tire an wheel well cover and removed the battery completely, also taped up all the cables. No issues since then and it been 5 months.
Just did this to my 2022 jeep gladiator and it worked as it should . No warning lights or any other light on dash and bypassed ESS as stated ! Thanks for the no nonsense video !
I went in through the fuse box and removed the aux battery on my 2020 JTR. Connected its hot lead to the main battery positive and wrapped up the negative lead from the aux battery. Start stop works fine but can be turned off by the dash button. Didn’t want to carry a dead battery around forever.
21 and newer the aux cable is the one with the tab, and extra post, that you ended up taking off. Prior years it was the easier, first one, you removed. Either way it should be the smaller of the two although I find it hard to tell. I just did this today on my 21 JLU.
Thanks for the info. I've had people mention they had to switch it. I updated the description a while back to let people know, but I didn't know for sure the years. Thanks for that.
My experience: Got in, attempted to start my 2021 JT Mojave, it would not start, nor turnover, no clicking, just some extra dash lights (check engine, and collision avoidance - associated with ACC system). Problem was a dead (10.5V) battery, and the blessing was that it was in my driveway & I wasn't stranded somewhere less safe, thanks to my wife's car as a backup. And, as with any unknown mechanical or "how to" issue, I came to RUclips. What did we ever do before YT? LOL! So, apparently my AUX battery died, and eventually my main battery was taken down by the AUX. No warning. I hadn't turned on my Start/Stop switch lately, and that would've been a clue if I had noticed it not working. The batteries would've been covered by the 3/36 warranty, but I was at 37K when they died. How convenient, Mopar! So, I pulled the F42 fuse, tied off the same ground cable as illustrated in this video, installed a new main battery, and everything is back to normal, except I no longer have an operational ESS system. I'll eventually yank out the dead AUX battery, but good to go for now. Thanks!
This just happened to me today. So what functionality did we lose? Is it just the auto start stop? I mean, I imagine the push to start still works correct?
Got a 2019 JL and the A sign appear like one month ago but yesterday my main battery was dead and I charged it and I did this but I didn’t function so I connected the other cable the one you tape up and it started but my amp it’s at 13.8
Do you know if this would work on a 2022 Jeep Renegade? The jeep is only 2 years old and the stupid thing always says its charging. When it was working its beyond annoying. I can only imagine the engine damage caused by this stupid feature down the road and starter damage as well.
I'm honestly not sure on the Renegades. I tried to find spent that worked like the ZAutomotive Tazer JL Mini. But I didn't see anything for the 2022 Renegade.
So, after watching this, I decoded to do the same to my 2021 Mohave. 1) Pulled F42 fuse and 2) removed the ground as you have done. The auto stop-start is now disabled, however, I still get the warning that the auto stop-start function is not working and then get the yellow A. I saw where some have said to remove a plug that connects to the ground. That made no difference either. I've watched this and another similar video multiple times to see if I am missing something. Checked and rechecked that I pulled the correct fuse.
Hmm. I'm not sure if the Mojaves are different. I do know they have a number of parts that are not compatible with aftermarket parts for other Gladiators, so this may be the same thing. Honestly not sure. Try connecting the other ground and see if that works. That has worked for a number of people.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport V6 Followed the steps and no more A-light! Only issue I ran into was my terminal cables were switched compared to your video, but I just had to swap the terminal cables around and it worked out just fine. Thank you so much for a great video!
You're welcome. Glad it worked out for you. I've heard depending on make and model, you may have to swap the negative cables. Working on a way to update the video to mention that.
Thanks for the great video! I always punch the A button on the dash to disable the start/stop. If I remove the fuse and bypass the battery without using a a taser or other bypass module, what will happen? My guess is the start/stop won’t click on at idle and I won’t need to press the button to disable it? I’m just concerned that it will cause some other electrical issue in the jeep. Thanks!
Honestly, not 100% sure, but I think you run the risk of the aux battery damaging your main battery. If the aux battery starts to die, it'll leach power from the main. I've heard of many instances where people have had to replace both when the aux battery was the cause. So I'd suggest just playing it safe and disconnecting the aux battery cable.
Did this and light still comes on! When I did the bypass I changed out the main battery to be safe and till get the darn warning light! Made sure it was the right negative lead and fuse. Not sure why the warning comes on but least I know main battery is new and charging.
Please please help 😢. I did everything exactly same as video. The warning light is gone. Even tho I took of the 42 one. Stop/start is still working 😢😢 did I do something wrong? Mine is 2021 with 2.0. Help me 😢😢😢😢😢
@@otroverland thank you so much 🥲. I was worried about it. And also thanks for the video I hope I can keep my battery longer (2 years driving this car but I already had to change the battery😭)
Question: when I connected the cable in your video the jeep wouldn’t start, so I switched cables and it worked. But the start/stop still kicks in when I do a hard stop, is this supposed to happen???
So this worked for me. The light went away and everything seemed to work fine and then a couple days later the error message came back on. How is that even possible? Does it matter? I'm so confused now
I just tried this on my 2020 Gladiator, and nothing would power on when I uses the cable you described, but keeping the cable on the battery that you tapped allowed the car to power on. Also, I pulled the correct fuse but the auto start stop still worked
First off thank you for a great to the point video! Having a bit of trouble with my 2020 JL also. Aux battery is removed, positive cables ran to main battery. Pulled fuse 42, removed both positive and negative cables (for aux battery) from main battery and start stop is still active. Tried swapping out the negative cable and had no power at all. As mentioned earlier on my 2020 the main cable is the one with the extra stud and nut that was taped up in your video.
Great video and instructions. I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport and performed the procedure. I drove the vehicle for a couple of hours and the ESS engaged when I came to a stop. Am I missing something. I have 3 other JL's and am going to perform the same procedure and see what happens.
I have the Taser mini installed on my 21 Rubicon. I just replaced both batteries and now I have the service start stop message. Any ideas why. Thanks in Advance.
same here, replaced both battteries in Nov, this morning the 'aux not available' popped up on the startup screen again..taking it to my local 4x4 shop next week for a diagnostic test. Not taking it to the dealership, they are worthless and charge way to much..mechanic at the shop recommended NOT disconnecting the aux battery/removing fuses, said it would lead to other issues.. i thought the tazer would have solved / prevented this issue...?
@@larshamilton40 I did some research on the taser website. It states to do “full reboot”, then complete two lock out cycles. If you have a manual and upped tire size in the taser, you have to perform a 30 second drive in 6th gear. The instructions are more detailed obviously. I’ll try it this weekend. I’m with you on not disconnecting fuses, battery etc… I want everything to be right.
Ok so I fixed it. I got the start stop warning after changing both batteries. Turns out, all I had to do was go through the Taser mini menu and clear all my DTC codes, then full reboot. No more start stop service message.
i did everything exactly like you did in the video and yes, i pulled the correct fuse but it did not disable the start/stop feature. i have no clue how or why it's still working.
Good vid- straight to the point.... but, it didn't work for me. Still getting the stop/start warning light and message. Wondering if my Tazer Lite is somehow a problem. I use it to keep the S/S permanently disabled.
Wow! You are the man! I’m having the exact same issue, with my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon (37000 mi). I Just replaced my main battery yesterday ($275) and then noticed the A with the circle and exclamation point! I’m going to try this, first thing tomorrow morning! Bye F 42! Aloha!
Viking Off-road just gave some new info about the need for the aux battery (running fan at stop light). I posted back with precautionary info. The whole thing is starting to make sense now. @@otroverland
Hoping someone is experiencing the same issue as me. My wife’s 2021 Wrangler Rubicon with only 32,000 miles on it wouldn’t start. After watching videos I learned it was the Aux battery causing the issue. I went to the auto store and replaced the stock H6 battery with the H7 Diehard Platinum battery since it has more cranking power than the H6. The H7 will fit the H6 tray by simply pulling the little black plastic insert in the tray. The H6 is for a Jeep with the auto start/stop feature and the H7 is for a Jeep without the auto start/stop feature. Since I am bypassing that feature and the Aux battery, that shouldn’t be an issue, right? I then followed the instructions of this video to bypass the Aux battery and to disable the auto start/stop feature. Removed the F42 fuse, disconnected the Aux negative cable (bigger of the two), electrical taped and zip tied it. However, the auto start/stop still functions as normal. How is this possible?
To fully disable the auto start stop, you should look at getting a ZAutomotive Tazer JL Mini. It has a ton of features, but my favorite is that it remembers the setting of the start stop button. So if you hit the disable button on the dash, the Jeep remembers until you press it again.
Hey man..I have a problem with my 20 jeep wrangler jl that it will crank for like a minute but it won't start..I replaced both batteries about 3 weeks ago and yesterday let me stranded at a busy intersection..I towed it back home and is still cranking but not starting..it only has 30000 miles on it ...any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..thanks for all your help
If it's cranking, but won't start, it's probably a fuel issue. Not getting enough gas. Make sure you don't have a clogged injector. Also, if its getting some gas and you crank it that long, it'll flood the engine and also won't start. Basically it's gonna be gas, air, and or spark. Check your plugs, air filter, and injectors.
I did this on my manual 2021 Wrangler JL and now for some reason the start stop works perfectly. I have no idea what I did wrong, I took out the fuse and taped up the connector...Maybe removed the wrong fuse?
I honestly had to look up and see the manuals had the start/stop. I truly thought you were pulling my leg. :) I would definitely check to make sure you pulled the correct fuse. I've learned it does vary by model year a bit. You may also need something like a Tazer JL Mini to permanently disable the auto start/stop.
Double-checked and had the correct fuse. Today, it wouldn't start, said it couldn't find the key fob. So I put the fuse back in and connected the cable back to the battery.
I did it last evening & there is no error sign on my speedometer for auxiliary battery. Thank you But the msg comes up, auxiliaries not working battery charging, is it ok? 4:34
I've got a 2020 Wrangler my start stop light is always on. Replaced the aux battery and light went out for a little while but came back on. Tried this and removed the correct fuse checked it more than twice. Removed the one cable it wouldn't start. Tried the other cable wouldn't start. I just have the light on I don't get the message stop/start unavailable. With fuse out no light but with the cable hooked up is it still drawing from the aux battery on normal start up?
Yeah, but the charging system is set up to also charge the aux battery. I've watched my voltage and when it charges etc. Is it maybe better to leave the aux battery in since it's in parallel?
I'd say do what you think is best, but I've never heard of anyone having any issues removing the aux battery. I've been running it without the aux for 11 months now with no issues. If it's in parallel, then I don't think there's a concern of overcharge. It would just be less draw on the alternator.
I did this today and replaced the main battery as it tested bad also. I pulled fuse 42 and Jeep started right up, but my A/C went crazy. If would only blow hot air and I could not change the temperature settings. I replaced the fuse and everything worked, but the error icon came back on for auto-start.
I'd say make sure you pulled the correct fuse and confirm it's for the auto start stop. I haven't heard anyone else mention it, but it may not be fuse 42 on your make and model.
Yes. I think it's just the fact that Jeep decided to use what's basically a motorcycle battery to do all the heavy lifting for starting the vehicle. I honestly don't get it. If you've had this warning light come on, address it sooner rather than later. The aux battery charges off the main and if the aux is on its way out, it'll keep trying to charge and drain the main to the point of damaging it too. I had to replace my main about a month after making this video.
For some reason my jeep wouldn’t start after doing this. When I put the fuse back in and then put the aux battery back on everything worked… like the auto stop/start resumed working and hadn’t for about a month
Try swapping the negative battery cables. Same thing happened on mine. Depending on make and model, you may have to swap them. If your aux battery is on its way out, it can damage your main battery and that's expensive to replace.
Just tried this and had no power. I️ did put everything back the way it was but did leave the fuse out. Now the light is gone but wondering if that’s okay?
@@michaellincoln1700Nope. You shouldn't have to worry about the switch anymore. Removing the negative battery cable comping from the aux battery and pulling the fuse disables the auto start/stop. The switch will still turn on/off on your dash, but it won't do anything.
Hi, thank you for the video I took out the 42 fuse and I disconnected the correct wire from the battery but I’m still getting the warning light on the dashboard. Any thoughts? Thank you.
@@sweetwillywine5920 Correct. If you still get the light it's likely the aux battery has already killed the main. On a 2020 it's the first cable he removed, on 21 and later it's the on with the tab and extra post.
I did it last evening & there is no error sign on my speedometer for auxiliary battery. Thank you But the msg comes up, auxiliaries not working battery charging, is it ok?
I have a 2019 Wrangler unlimited Sierra package and has a 2.0 turbo in it. I do not have the extra wire on my negative side of my battery. I do not have the number 42 fuse also in my fuse box so do I have two batteries or not?
OK so this is weird. I had the same issue on my gladiator. Pulled the F42 fuse and took off the negative cable post. What is strange is that in your video the terminal with the long post was taped up and put aside. I followed your video exactly and got NO power to my truck. I tried swapping the other cable and I have power and no indicator light.
I've heard a couple people say the same thing. I think it might vary based on model year. I actually first tried the other cable and it did what you experienced. So I switched it with the long post and that's what worked for me.
Did you ever figure it out? Same thing happened to me, light is still on. I have a tazer so the start stop is disabled, but I recently started getting the error message at startup.
Yes. It should. If you try it and the engine won't start, just swap the negative cable that's disconnected. Depending on year and model, the cable going to the aux battery can differ.
So I did this and the start stop is still active. Does this just bypass the aux battery to save my main battery? But I still have to push the button every time I start the car. Or should this just turn off the start stop feature all together? I have a 2022 gladiator rubicon.
My understanding is that pulling the fuse disabled the start/stop. But I've heard other people mention what you're seeing. I've got a Taser, so I can't really test it beyond what others have said.
I have 21, tried as shown didn't work. Watched again tried reversing grounds, nothing , wouldn't start, like dead battery. Tried again connecting plain end cable, WORKED!, Will tape up cable with stud, and cross fingers it will continue to work.
I too have a 21 Gladiator same plain end neg cable removed F42 10amp fuse . Now my ESS auto start works again without F42 and without ground cable Must be a ghost under my hood.
I too have a 21 Gladiator same plain end neg cable removed F42 10amp fuse . Now my ESS auto start works again without F42 and without ground cable Must be a ghost under my hood.
Your aux battery or main battery may be too far gone. When the aux battery is on it's way out, it'll draw power from the main and wear them both out. I'd suggest having your main battery tested at AutoZone or the dealer.
@@otroverland I got to thinking, maybe its the other negative ground cable , even though that one was thicker and had the screw post attached to the end ( clearly it looked like the main negative cable ), So I switched the cables and the jeep wouldnt even light up, so I switched it back to the way I had it and and it cleared the dashboard error. Weird but now all good
Thank you for the simple explanation I'm thinking about this but I'm very cautious I know it's been 9 months since you've made this video how's everything working out so far did you have to put a larger amperage battery in just to make up for the auxiliary battery?
I didn't catch it in time. The aux battery leeched power from my main battery and dropped the voltage on the main too low. So I did have to replace my main. Since then its been fine without the aux battery. And I just got the Ecoflow 800W charger which pulls power from the main. It's all been working great.
There are 2 negative battery cables. One that connects to the main battery negative terminal and one that connects the aux battery negative to the main battery negative terminal. Depending on make, model, and year of the Jeep, you may have to swap which one you disconnect. The first time I tried this, I disconnected the other cable and my Jeep wouldn't start, so I swapped and disconnected the other and it worked.
can this be done without the taser? my batteries just died after ESS having issues, so I'm hoping I can just pull out f42 and re-attach those black cables? Then replace main battery and be good to go?
Yes . It should work. And depending on make and model, you may have to swap which negative cable to pull. Try it the way I did it in the video. If the Jeep won't start, swap the negative battery cables. Also, if the aux battery has been on its way out, it'll pull power from the main battery and shorten its life too. So I'd say give this a try and see. It's only takes a couple of minutes.
I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport. I tried your fix and it just plain don't work. I've switched the both cables and I know I've disconnected the right one and I know I pulled the right fuse and it still don't work. Too bad because it sounds like a great fix and there are probably 10 more RUclips videos describing the same one
I just did this and the auto start/stop message still comes on, along with the A on the dash. Any suggestions? 2018 Sport. I noticed someone mentioned they had to switch the black terminal and use the other one than you did in the video. I tried this but the lights are still on.
@@otroverlandI have a Tazer JL and have the start/stop disabled. I was just trying to get the error message to go away, which I never had before. I ended up clearing the DTC with the taser and it went away.
@@otroverland , just closing the loop. For a 2020, the smaller of the two negative cables worked like a charm. Thanks again. Although not necessary, next step is a TaZer mini to finish the cosmetics (lit button on all the time) along with other great benefits. Thanks again.
Question maybe u can help me. My auxiliary battery went out so I changed it a few days the later the light came on so I change the main battery. The light still on. Do you think it’s OK for me to do what you did in this video just to get the light to go off?
I'd suggest if you replaced both and still have the warning light on to get it looked at. I'd say maybe it's still hanging onto to error code, but the time you took to replace the main battery should have cleared that code. You can go to an AutoZone and they will run a free diagnostic. So at a minimum, you can get the error codes it's throwing.
Yeah. I've heard a number of people say that. I first tried the other cable and it didn't work, so I switched and that's what worked for me. I think it varies based on model and year.
I don't think it will disable the start stop function. I believe you need something like the Tazer Mini to do that. This video is if you've got the warning light.
Would that work on a 2018 JL? I had to replace my aux battery like 2 years ago. It's starting to tell me my something or other is shut down and the battery is charging.
It should work on a 2018. I've just started getting warning saying Aux switches temporarily disabled. After some research it looks like my main battery needs to be replaced.
2019 JL. Pulled the fuse and the cable - and everything was dead. Put the cable back and fuse - everything was as it was with the warning light back on. Pulled just the fuse and no more warning light. Seems on some models the Aux battery handles a little something extra and not just the start stop. On others it seems it just the start stop. Removing the fuse only fixed the error message. So I am happy.
@@otroverland I that a few days ago, forgot to do an update here. Yea- so for mine it was the other cable that connects to the Aux Battery. I also disabled the stop start using the pin under the hood trick.
I have a 2019 Wrangler Rubicon with the original aux battery. Yeah, it's long-in -the-tooth and is having issues. The process of replacing it shows how poorly FCA put thought on location for easier access. I'm going to try to bypass that battery per your instructions. Otherwise, it's going to be a chore either removing the fender guard or going-in from the engine compartment (and tearing apart the fuse box). Either option... I don't look forward too. Thanks for your handy hack!!!
Thanks! Take note. Depending on Model and Year, you may need to swap which negative cable you reconnect. Try it the way I've done in the video. If the Jeep won't start, simply swap the negative battery cable connected to the battery.
I completed the process and the auto stop error light is now gone.....Good news. Now I am having a strange issue with the climate control. The Auto feature on the climate control does not function properly. Any ideas?
Found this video today after my 2021 wouldn't start. Doing this tomorrow hopefully the main battery is still good since jeep ony has 18,000 miles. It ran all day and restarted after I jumped it.
The auto stop/start functionIlty is disabled. By removing the fuse and aux battery cable, the Jeep simply bypasses the feature entirely. The warning light and message disappear and the auto start stop button in the cab still toggles, but does not function anymore.
I made these changes today on my 2018 JL. It DOES remove the circle A warning light. It does not disable ESS. I suppose ESS now just utilizes the main battery.
Ultimately you want to pull the old Aux battery out along with the unnecessary wiring left behind. But this fix saves hundreds of dollars. There are some models where the Aux/Main battery leads are reversed, if you have any savvy with a voltage meter you can find it in seconds. But if it didn't work, try the other lead. That should do it. You effectively can save quite a bit of repair costs into the future with this simple hack. Both of my Jeeps are bypassed (2021 JT, and a 2022 JL). All Stop/Start or Run/Stop have the same flaw - the batteries are only as good as the weakest battery in the chain and you typically have to replace both by recommendation of Stellantis. $$$$. I don't think any of the manufacturers feel that this feature is a best design, but they get relief from the feds doing it. Which reveals why your congress is not the best technical advisor on your cars. Great, simple video. I have had zero issues with this bypass, which is less than I had before it..
Do you need larger main battery or is the factory battery ok? Have a 2019 JL. Had the aux battery go bad and drain main once before but it will still under warranty so dealer replaced both. Now aux seems to be failing again so looking at this delete method. Just want to make sure we don’t need to replace main. Thanks.
I have a JLU 2019 also, did the same on this video. I have not had any issues but when the normal one starts to go, there is a little bracket in the tray you remove and you can go the larger H7 battery, I think those are in the jeeps with the tow package. I could be wrong....
@otroverland so the temp increase of 22deg happened in the time that you took to do this? I'm just curious I've never seen a jump like that but then again I live in the upper Midwest.
I did exactly what you did and then every time I went to start the truck the first button press it just clunked and I had to press it again a second time to get it to start. Eventually my truck wouldn't start even with a brand new battery.
Depending on make and model, you may need to connect the other negative battery terminal. The first time I did it, I connected the other terminal and had no power. Truck wouldn't turn over at all. So the fact that yours is starting isn't something I've heard from others. I'd say first, check today make sure you've got a secure connection. If so, the I'd say try swapping the negative cables and see what happens. If it starts right up, then you can should be good to go. If it doesn't start at all, then you were right the first time, but you may have something else going on.

Yeah. At some point I'll go in and pull the old aux battery
21 and newer the aux cable is the one with the tab, and extra post, that you ended up taking off. Prior years it was the easier, first one, you removed. Either way it should be the smaller of the two although I find it hard to tell. I just did this today on my 21 JLU.

So, I pulled the F42 fuse, tied off the same ground cable as illustrated in this video, installed a new main battery, and everything is back to normal, except I no longer have an operational ESS system. I'll eventually yank out the dead AUX battery, but good to go for now. Thanks!
Glad the video was helpful. Thanks!
This just happened to me today. So what functionality did we lose? Is it just the auto start stop? I mean, I imagine the push to start still works correct?
@@carpathia3882auto stop start should still work off the main battery now. No functionality is lost.
Great video. Informative, quick and to the point. Not like these other fools who make a 50 min video on how to add windshield fluid. Thank you brotha.
Thanks. Much appreciated.
Thank you for the video!!!
You would think there should be a recall on this no???!!!
What you did not say is that ESS is still going to work. Just not off of your accessory battery. It will run off of main battery
The Auto Start/Stop dash light came on in my 2022 JL with under 10,000 miles. This simple workaround handled it perfectly!
Awesome! Glad it helped.
Hubby’s JT just experienced this and following your simple instructions I was able to fix in less than 10 minutes! Easy peasy! Thanks 😊
That's awesome. Glad it was helpful. Thanks!
Got a 2019 JL and the A sign appear like one month ago but yesterday my main battery was dead and I charged it and I did this but I didn’t function so I connected the other cable the one you tape up and it started but my amp it’s at 13.8
Thanks for the update. I've heard from a few other people that they had to connect the other cable. I added a note to the video.
If you have to go back to the dealer and connect it back..would the chances be high that the aux battery is dead?
I think it depends on how fast people do the bypass and how long the aux battery sits.
Go to auto zone if you don’t have a tazer and have them clear your DTCs. I had to reset it on my jt but I have a tazer so I just did it from the dash.
@@chokabardas I have a scanner. No codes.
I didn’t have any codes either I just selected clear anyways and restarted the Jeep and it went away. Might be different on the tazers
@@chokabardas Thanks for the tip. I will try this. I have the bypass labels and everything else.
It worked on my 2020 JL! That said, it was with the end that you taped not the one that was reconnected back to the battery. Thanks OTR Overland.

Followed the steps and no more A-light!
Thanks!
@@egman5225 ah so the auto start/stop still kicks in but won’t run off the aux battery. Got it. Thank you!
I just disconnected the wiring harness on the switch under the hood. Put electrical tape over light on dash.
What would happen if I just take out the fuse and leave the battery connected
Honestly, not 100% sure, but I think you run the risk of the aux battery damaging your main battery. If the aux battery starts to die, it'll leach power from the main. I've heard of many instances where people have had to replace both when the aux battery was the cause. So I'd suggest just playing it safe and disconnecting the aux battery cable.
I did everything as in video but still see this notification on my dashboard. Jeep JL 2022
What to do else? Thanks😢
Maybe try having it scanned at AutoZone to get the error codes and clear any old codes

Yeah. It can vary depending on year and model. Glad it worked out for you.
Question: when I connected the cable in your video the jeep wouldn’t start, so I switched cables and it worked. But the start/stop still kicks in when I do a hard stop, is this supposed to happen???
Awesome! I wondered if I could remove/disconnect the aux batt and still have everything work fine. Thanks for this!

Yup. That's correct.

Did you make any adjustments to fit the larger lug hole over the smaller bolt where the aux ground had been?
No. I didn't need to make modifications.

I'd say double check you pulled the correct fuse.
I did everything exactly as the video said and I'm still getting the light on the dashboard. I have a 2018 wrangler.
So this worked for me. The light went away and everything seemed to work fine and then a couple days later the error message came back on. How is that even possible? Does it matter? I'm so confused now
Are you running a Tazer? If so , try a full reboot sequence.
@@otroverland no
I just tried this on my 2020 Gladiator, and nothing would power on when I uses the cable you described, but keeping the cable on the battery that you tapped allowed the car to power on. Also, I pulled the correct fuse but the auto start stop still worked
Try swapping the negative battery cable. Depending on year and model, it can differ. So try swapping them. It should work.
I believe it works for some. You may have to get a Tazer Mini. That will disable it
I have the Taser mini installed on my 21 Rubicon.
Yup. I was going to suggest doing the full reboot sequence. It's takes a hot minute to complete, but usually fixes the issue.
Ok so I fixed it. I got the start stop warning after changing both batteries. Turns out, all I had to do was go through the Taser mini menu and clear all my DTC codes, then full reboot. No more start stop service message.
Best, straightforward video that doesn't waste our time. THANKS!

i did everything exactly like you did in the video and yes, i pulled the correct fuse but it did not disable the start/stop feature. i have no clue how or why it's still working.
You may have to get a Tazer Mini to disable the auto start stop
Good vid- straight to the point.... but, it didn't work for me. Still getting the stop/start warning light and message. Wondering if my Tazer Lite is somehow a problem. I use it to keep the S/S permanently disabled.
I've got the Tazer JL Mini and it works to disable the start stop. I'd check error codes and see if you can further troubleshoot it from there
Wow! You are the man! I’m having the exact same issue, with my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon (37000 mi). I Just replaced my main battery yesterday ($275) and then noticed the A with the circle and exclamation point! I’m going to try this, first thing tomorrow morning! Bye F 42! Aloha!
Why do you have to remove the neg wire? The aux battery only has two wires. Pulling one removes it from the circuit.
The negative wire to the aux battery is easier to access. Otherwise, you might as well just remove the aux battery entirely.
Check fuel pump relay. Might be the k02, depending on model. Check your diagram.
I unhooked everything but when I go connect just the main it doesn’t turn on at all please advice

I take the fuse f42 out, and the black cable still has the light on the dashboard
I'd suggest checking your main battery then. If the aux battery goes or is on its way out, it can take out the main battery as well.
If the cable is still hooked up, I'd assume it's still drawing for the aux battery on start up.
Yeah, but the charging system is set up to also charge the aux battery. I've watched my voltage and when it charges etc. Is it maybe better to leave the aux battery in since it's in parallel?
I'm saying it could possibly overcharge the normal battery if the aux is gone.
Just tried this. 2020 JL. Yes, it's the opposite cable as others have mentioned. Pulled Fuse 42 and the AC is frozen on LO temp and won't change.
Great video, that addresses how to disable but what causes the issue. Is it a a weak start stop battery.
Try connecting the other negative cable. A number of people have said they had to connect the other cable to get it to work for them.
@@otroverland that seem to do the trick thank you. Do I still have to make sure I turn off the auto start when I start the truck still?
@@michaellincoln1700Nope. You shouldn't have to worry about the switch anymore. Removing the negative battery cable comping from the aux battery and pulling the fuse disables the auto start/stop. The switch will still turn on/off on your dash, but it won't do anything.

@@sweetwillywine5920 Correct. If you still get the light it's likely the aux battery has already killed the main. On a 2020 it's the first cable he removed, on 21 and later it's the on with the tab and extra post.

@@otroverland why did Jeep mess with a good system?
A silly question, but what is the auxiliary battery negative cable bc I ‘ve seen other videos where people disconnect a different from yours?
So at a minimum, you can get the error codes it's throwing.
if you leave the positive cable connected to the aux battery can it still draw your main battery down?
Yes. I believe so. I'd disconnect it to be safe. If the aux battery keeps drawing down power on the main, it'll reduce the lifespan of the main.
Thanks for de vid. Mine is a 2020 jl and I had ti connect the other cable and tape up the one without the terminal screw.

Yeah. I've heard a number of people say that. I first tried the other cable and it didn't work, so I switched and that's what worked for me. I think it varies based on model and year.
I updated the video and added a note to let people know they might have to try the other cable. Thanks again for the feedback
So after all would the start stop function work again or that is gonna deactivate it ?
I don't think it will disable the start stop function. I believe you need something like the Tazer Mini to do that. This video is if you've got the warning light.
So I did that exact same thing and my jeep still shuts off at the stop lights and restarts?
I've got the Tazer Mini. Totally worth the investment. It disables the start stop and has a ton of other great features
Does not work with mine. Neither does eliminating the aux battery. Light is still on.
Maybe take it to AutoZone and have them pull error codes and clear them
It works nice with a stick. Pull up to a light in neutral, let out the clutch. When you are ready to go press the clutch, shift into gear and go.
Good tip!
Does this fix affect the Remote Start on my key fob?
No. Not at all. I use the remote start all the time.
Just did it last weekend. Saved money again.
Awesome! Glad the video was helpful.
How do I know which of the 2 negstives I have to disconnect, in other videos it mentions that it is the other cable, mine is a 2020 sport s
It does vary on make and model. I have a 2021 Sport S. Someone mentioned the 2020s are swapped. So try the other negative cable.
You can try swapping the negative battery cables you disconnect. I've learned it varies based on make and model.
Any ideas?
I'm afraid I haven't heard of that issue before. Are you also using a Tazer? If so, I'd suggest a full reboot sequence and see if that fixes things.
Will the stop start still work even if the fuse is pulled and the negative cable is removed
No, the start/stop won't work after you pull the fuse and negative battery terminal.
Still under factory warranty right? Why not just take it to the dealership for a free fix?
I'm just saying you can put it back if need be.
Found this video today after my 2021 wouldn't start. Doing this tomorrow hopefully the main battery is still good since jeep ony has 18,000 miles. It ran all day and restarted after I jumped it.
Does this work on2019 durango
I honestly don't know. It's an easy thing to try. You'll have to see what fuse to pull.
what happens to the ESS functionality after this ?
The auto stop/start functionIlty is disabled. By removing the fuse and aux battery cable, the Jeep simply bypasses the feature entirely. The warning light and message disappear and the auto start stop button in the cab still toggles, but does not function anymore.
@@otroverland Actually it's not disabled. You still need a Tazer or SmartStopStart to disable it fully.
I made these changes today on my 2018 JL. It DOES remove the circle A warning light. It does not disable ESS. I suppose ESS now just utilizes the main battery.
@@russparker2102same here. 2020 gladiator. Fuse is out and cable removed. Start/stop still happening. Fuuuuudge…
Thanks for the info and feedback. Really appreciate it.
Do you think this would work on a ‘18 compass?
I'm honestly not sure. It's a different engine, so I would guess no.
@@briandell3852thanks for the reply and good to know yours still worked on the regular battery.
I've got the tow package with the larger battery. So it's good to know it's a simple upgrade.
I noticed that the ambient temperature went from 86 (before) to 108 (after). How did that happen?
I live in Arizona. 😅
@otroverland so the temp increase of 22deg happened in the time that you took to do this? I'm just curious I've never seen a jump like that but then again I live in the upper Midwest.
Was it really that hot when you shot this? 108??
Yeah. That's just another day in Arizona. It's 115 today. 😅
