@@sonsofomanveeb Not sure why you would ever get a check engine light, maybe a ESS not available warring if you didn't pull the correct fuse. Without know what exactly was done its hard to say but you can always return it to stock if your not happy with it. Let me know how it works out.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD yeah, I disconnected the aux battery and pulled the fuse. I ended up disconnecting the main battery as well for 10 minutes, reconnected, and started the jeep and did not get the ESS light 👍🏼
I had the issue and brought to dealer. They wanted $1100 CAD to replace. Said it was not warranty. Told them to just disconnect the 2nd battery and they said it does much more than start/stop. Funny they could not tell me what else it ran. Just “other things”. I told them to just get my keys ready and picked it up. Did the steps as you outlined perfectly. Thank you.
Hi, I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly. Then I saw lights on the dash reporting issues. The next day (yesterday) it wouldn't start. I watched your video on bypassing the aux battery, so, I went out and bought one like yours. I'm installing it now, but I had to take a break due to rain. I just want to tell you that I appreciate so much that you explained how to remove the battery and cables as well as bypassing the aux. I'm not a mechanic, I'm 66 years old and this is the first time doing something like this. I was nervous as all heck. So, again I am grateful for the guidance. Joe
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD No problem, I finished the install and it came out just like you said! I also verified that the autostart/stop also worked, and my autostart on the key fob. Batten a thousand! Thanks again!... Oh, and it really wasn't that heavy, I curled it up and in Real easy! Lol..
My just died in my drive way tonight. 3F outside in NH. Thank you for the help! You make me feel I can get back to work pretty easy! CHEERS! Great Series!
My 2021 Wrangler stranded me in the woods last week. Had to get a buddy to come jump me off. Went straight to the dealership as I was 1600 miles left till warranty expired at 36,000. Sure enough...the aux battery had died and killed the big battery right behind it. They put in new batteries under warranty. Even though the Aux battery is now brand new........I went ahead and followed your video, pulled the F42, took off the negative Aux cable and wrapped it up. Strapped it to the other cable tight. Now on big battery only. Ive got the 2.0 Turbo but I turn off the start/stop via the switch each time anyway. Drove around to make sure I got no warning lights and all good at the dashboard. Big battery charging at 14.2. Tks mate...
I’m glad they covered you under warranty. It does suck that you got stranded in the woods, but you shouldn’t have that problem anymore after this mod. Thanks for watching the video!
Having same issue now with 2021 JL 2.0. Dealer claiming my dash cam is draining battery. Outlet is not powered when Jeep is off. Will remove it when I get it back from dealer.
@@timcapuchino3563 Unfortunately I had to replace the main batter again last month. I am 100% disappointed in the dual battery system in the 2021 Wrangler and am trading back to an F150 after New Years. I wont buy another Jeep product again.
@@GregShieldsOutdoors I am sorry. Jeep really tried to be cute with a second battery but is causing headaches...good luck and thank you for you're response. Merry Christmas
I just did the bypass on my ‘22. Very simple. I did have to hold the power and enter buttons for ten seconds to get the radio to reset after disconnecting the power. Removing both grounds initially is necessary to separate the aux ground on ‘21 and up models. If you decide to completely remove your aux consider posting a video of that as well. Thanks very much.
My husband watched a video on cancelling that aux battery but it didn't work. I bet it wasn't your battery video so I'm going to try it myself. Looks relatively easy. Thank you for this video.
This mod just eliminates the aux battery from the electrical loop, you will still have to push the button on startup to turn it off. They do make programmers that disable stop-start so you don’t have to push the button every time. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Awesome video on the AUX battery. My JT is 3 years old and tomorrow I’m going to disconnect the AUX battery. This method is way easier than removing it.
Thank you very much for the absolutely important information you supplied. Especially for those of us that go off-roading far into the wilderness. For those instances, the aux battery makes the vehicle unreliable. Great video.
Came back to say thanks again for the video. Ironically after commenting 3 weeks ago, I started getting a warning 3 days ago that my "aux switches temporarily unavailable battery charging" This morning - no start. Disabled the little battery and pulled F42. Unfortunately my big battery was (apparently) ruined by the auxiliary battery, so after having it charged and tested, I replaced it and I'm back up and running.
Thank you for very detailed informative video. I took a chance and replaced my old aux battery and it died within 2 weeks. Kind pf scary that it wouldn't take a jump start and dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights, warning beeps, etc. Thankfully I was in my garage. Not exactly sure what happened (wasn't fully charged from auto store or perhaps alternator fuse blew and aux battery wouldn't charge), but I decided to go ahead and bypass the aux battery altogether using this method. After bypassing, the main battery jump started right up and is now running fine. I did get a check engine light initially but by the 3rd start it went away. Keep these great videos coming!
No problem, this is the exact scenario I was hoping to avoid in my Jeep. Thankfully I was in my garage as well and not in the middle of nowhere but if you can do this simple mod you can jump start it and get home. Thanks for watching the video Michael!
Have at 2020 Gladiater, battery went dead on 3 years after purchase, turn in to dealer due to 5 years warrantee, no battery warrantee, cost me $700.00 late video to show me, but wiil delete aux. Battery for sure, dam good video
Thanks for this video. The wife’s JL was only starting in the second button push, even after a new main battery. I determined it was the Aux battery and deleted it. Starts fine now. 👌🏼
My 2021 Rubicon battery dropped dead and will replace and by pass the auxiliary. Your video is undoubtedly the best I have seen. Fantastic, well produced, and definitely at the user level. You have my subscription. And thanks!😊
@davidbryanwoodworksandmore mine worked great on the 3.6l, if you have a non e-torque it should work fine as well. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Thanks! Just picked up 2020 JWUR with 33k miles and original batteries. Went to Autozone purchased Duralast H7 platinum series and followed your instructions to replace main and bypass auxiliary battery. So far worked like a charm!
On a '22 did as posted while replacing main battery. After short drive removed neg. cable for 15 minutes and all came back to normal. Will update if I have any issues.
I have a 2021 Gladiator and completed the delete just as you explained and it worked great. I have the max tow package but had the smaller H6, did not know that the H7 was an option. With that said, I purchased Duracell H7 from Sam's club, removed the adapter block in the battery tray and the H7 fit perfict. Great video, thank you!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD no aux buttons. Just the tow hitch and wirings. I do have the bigger alternator at least. Just bought a h7 today tho! My battery was under 12 volts and I kept getting the service start stop. So I deleted the aux and pulled the fuse 42 also. I’m going to test the aux battery but I’m sure it took out my main.
That is absolutely what I want to do to my Gladiator. I'm sick of the out of warranty dealer excuses and I never use auto start-stop. Thanks Frosty, I've subscribed
Thank you for this video. I don’t like the stop/start. I didn’t even know it was a separate battery until today when my Jeep was dead. This saves me money and I won’t have to deal with turning this feature off every time I drive.
I'm glad the video helped you out, just to be clear you do still have to push the button every time unless you get a programmer. This mod just removes the aux battery from the loop so you don't end up stranded again, thanks for watching the video!
@@ceeholleeb it still functions normally but this mod bypasses the aux battery. So you’ll need to push the button or get a programmer to keep it off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!

Yeah, I heard about this issue a long time ago and was wondering when mine was going to check out. Thankfully it was sitting in the garage. Thanks for watching the video!
I appreciate the detail on this. Some vids take for granted you know some of the small details. Yes we might but lots of folks aren't sure and the attention to the small steps gives a person a bit of comfort knowing all the steps to doing the job correctly. Thanks for the detail.
Thanks for this information. I had been through nightmares of battery issues. I did install the odyssey H7 6 months ago and life is good. Haven't done the delete yet, but good information. 👍
No problem, I’m glad to hear you’re liking your battery so far. Yeah it’s good information to have if that auxiliary battery ever dies on you. Thanks for watching the video, Jeff!
I didn’t notice anything, it functions like stock. This mod doesn’t eliminate the stop/start function just the aux battery from the loop. Thanks for watching the video!
I have a '21 JL and really appreciate you making this video, very helpful. I do have a question. It sounds like both the hot and ground are tied to the main battery right?
The aux negative runs up to the main battery, the aux positive runs to the fuse block by the main battery. When the JL first came out it didn’t have the software to bypass the aux battery on startup and you had to jump the aux battery from the pole on the fuse block. Thankfully they changed that, hope that helps. Thanks for watching the video!
I believe you need to run the positive aux end up to the main positive terminal from what I’ve seen others do. The negative ends you can tape off and stow away. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Many thanks! I'm going to do it this weekend! Is electric tape enough to insulate the negative cable / is there something else I can do to insulate? I would consider removing the aux battery completely at some point.
I just did a thick layer of tape and zip tied it out of the way so it wouldn’t touch anything. I did want to use heat shrink but I didn’t have a large enough diameter one to fit over the metal lead. I will probably pull my aux battery and run the positive up to the main one next time I have the fender off. Thanks for watching the video Stephen!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD - so you didn't actually remove the dead AUX battery, nor remove the red+ lead from it? You only disconnected the black- lead, tied it off, & removed the fuse ... that's all? How long did you leave the AUX battery in its original spot before removing it? Because this looks like the simplest/quickest way to isolate the dead AUX battery (for the short term). Of course, you'd want to eventually remove the AUX & attach its red+ lead up top (onto main battery post) as other YT videos have illustrated. My ride is a '21 JT, but appears to be same or similar set up.
It’s not entirely necessary but it is a nice upgrade if you’re running a lot of accessories. Also if you do still use ESS it’s 100% on your main battery now, just something to consider. Thanks for watching the video!
No special tools are needed but most factory fuse panels come with a removal tool. The fuses are plastic though so just be careful not to crack them with pliers. This is a nice easy mod to start with, thanks for watching the video!
The positive aux battery lead is already attached to the main battery so no need to do anything with it. You just need to remove the negative aux lead from the main battery and pull the fuse. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Great video and I followed it in detail, to bypass the auxiliary battery but I'm still getting the warning light on the dashboard about the aux start. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brother!
It should go away after you drive it a bit, if it doesn’t I’d pull your main battery and have it tested at NAPA to see if it’s going out. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Great video! Question...are you going to do a video on how to actually remove and delete the auxiliary battery or did you just leave the auxiliary battery? It appears that this is more of a bypass solution. I'm just wondering if there's anything special I need to do to get rid of the auxiliary battery dead weight. Also, when I did this with my 20/20 Wrangler JLU, my main battery was still fine, so I removed the negative cable from the aux battery and fuse number 42. The auto start stop light was still on. I then disconnected the main battery and let it sit for 15 minutes then reconnected it. This took care of the auto start stop light problem, but my backup camera and my climate control was not working. Apparently sometimes you have to wait up to 24 hours for the entire system to reset. It's fine now, but I just thought people might want to know. Thanks again!
Thanks for the info, I’ve heard on the newer ones people need to cycle it a few times to get rid of the light. Mine worked great after a short drive. I left the battery in, it’s a very small battery and weighs nothing compared to the main battery. If you do still want to remove it you’ll have to pull your fender and make sure you buy more clips because a lot of them break. You’ll also need to run the positive lead back up to the main battery as well. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
No I left it in, figured I’d take it out if I ever had the fender off. Those clips usually break and need replacing on the factory fenders. It’s worked great with no issues so far as is, thanks for watching the video!
I doubt it, the aux battery is like a motorcycle battery. You would want to get a similar spec with the same style posts if you were going to replace it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I have a 2021 Wrangler EcoDiesel. Lucky for me that my Aux battery is directly under my main battery. Unlucky for all of us is that we have an Aux battery. I replaced both batteries on the 3 year anniversary of my Jeep being made before I had any issues. I live in the desert of Arizona and batteries die in about 3 years. I didn't want it to die on a ride in the desert. I push the button after starting my Jeep. I don't want the engine turning off when I am at a traffic light or when I apply the brake while off roading. I carry a Type S Jump Starter Power Bank with me all the time. I figure I can disconnect the Aux battery when I have a problem and jump the main battery to get going if I have to. I will replace my main battery and delete my Aux battery on the 2nd 3rd anniversary. Thanks for the tip on the F42 fuse.
It could be easily swapped back if you needed warranty work done but I totally get it. Hopefully your aux battery has a long life! Thanks for watching the video!
This mod only removes the problematic aux battery from the loop. The stop-start button will still need to be turned off with the button or a tuner. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Among many videos on this issue with the auxiliary battery, yours is number one so clear! I wonder if the same technique I could apply on my 392 Rubicon 2022 ! Thx👍🏼
This is true Eddy (Wayalife) did it that way in his install video, it did look like a lot more work though. As long as you have extra fender clips it’s not too bad. Thanks for watching the video Michael!
Thanks so much for this! Is there any reason not to just completely remove the aux battery? Or does it help something to leave it there with the positive connected
No problem, it wouldn’t hurt anything but you’d have to reroute the aux positive wire back up to the main battery positive terminal. It’s just easier to leave it in place especially if you want to reverse the mod. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD im curious why you keep mentioning F42 then we pull F22. Which one are we pulling haha. I know F22 for sure but youve mentioned F42 several times in the video.
great video, I haven't had any issues YET(matter of time) with my 2020 Gladiator Sport S and deleting the Aux looks simple enough. Did you lose the ability to use your remote start after the delete?
No, I didn’t loose any functionality with this mod. I actually was unable to remote start the last week or so before it finally died all the way. Adding the new battery and doing this mod fixed it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
It’s not the end of the world but the main battery will be working harder, that’s why I upgraded to a performance one. Most people turn it off but if you like that feature it might be better to leave it stock. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
@@qatariadventure yeah this mod is just to remove the aux battery from the loop, the system will still need to be turned off with the button or you can get a programmer to have it stay off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I just had my aux battery go bad and the first indication of a problem was the aux switch panel would not work and a dash message saying that the aux switches are unavailable due to battery charging. Will the aux switches work again after this modification? Fantastic video! Thanks!
That’s what happened to mine before it killed the main battery as well. Switches work just fine after this mod, I didn’t notice any change on mine at all. This will just remove the aux battery from the loop and the main battery will take the whole load. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
That would be covered by the main battery just like any other vehicle that only has one battery. That is one of the reasons I went with a performance AGM battery. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Hi. I tried this but had to put it back. The transmission didn’t like it going from park to reverse. I also noticed a clicking noise, could have been the fuse box area. I will have to change both batteries. Cheers Phil
That’s interesting, I imagine the voltage was too low just off the main battery. You could try it again with a new one and see if that works. Mines still functioning great, thanks for watching the video Phillip!
The main battery was showing a slightly lower voltage than the auxiliary battery when both were disconnected from each other. We ended up changing both. cheers Phil
main battery voltage dropping even more just sitting on the floor after two days. in my case it was the main battery. The old auxiliary battery showing 12.2 v , the main battery dropped to 11.3v so far.
I have a 2020 rubicon. Will removing the negative keep that aux battery from completely draining the main if it dies? Or will that positive still cause it to slowly drain?
No, you only have to remove the negative for the axillary battery and pull the fuse shown in the video. It’s a pretty easy mod and can save you a headache down the road. Thanks for watching the video!
It was nice and a pleasure to watch. I was between this and the other version of moving the aux positive up to the main and taping the negative. Wasnt sure the difference/which would be better. opinion? I dont have a tazer. I just press the dumb button. My overall worry is the aux draining my main. I dont drive the ‘necessary’ freeway speed/allotted tjme for it to ‘charge’
@@Busterblader13 yeah that’s another way to accomplish the same thing, that way is more work and harder to reverse if you need to go in for warranty work at the dealership. I just preferred this method and I’m in the same boat having to hit the button every startup but it’s pretty much second nature now.
Thanks for this info However i had followed every steps in disabling aux battery but the auto stop start still working. Had i missed any thing my car is GCC spec
The start/stop system will still work, this mod eliminates the aux battery. You will have to push the button to turn it off when you start the Jeep unless you get a Tazer to reprogram it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
By taking out the fuse and disconnecting the negative terminal to the auxiliary battery, will that take care of the constant turning off the start/stop button? In other words if I follow your video, I won't have to mess around with the start/stop button anymore?
It only removes the aux battery from the electrical system, you still will have to hit the button to disable it every time. You can get a Tazer and reprogram it if you want, thanks for watching the video Matt!
Hi Bryan, Thank you very much for your video. I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything) Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle? Thank you. Best, G
Yeah, if the small battery is the culprit then you should be able to do this mod and jump your main battery and be good to go. If the main battery got too low on voltage you might want to replace it, hope this helps thanks for watching!
If you are stranded with a bad auxiliary battery, can you pull the fuse and disconnect the ground wire on it to get started again, or is your main battery now dead as well, requiring a jump?
This mod will trick the system into only monitoring the main battery, so yes this should help to get you off the trail if you have a way to jump the main battery. Hope this helps, thanks for watching Mitchell!
When you do the bypass, are you leaving the auxiliary battery in its place with the cables still connected but only disconnecting the negative on the main battery?
That is correct, if you remove the aux battery you will need to run the aux positive lead up to the main battery positive terminal. I may do this down the road but it isn’t necessary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video Alan!
I heard that on the newer 21 models that the negative cable runs to the firewall ground instead of the negative post on the auxiliary battery like the older ones did in your video. So with that said, if I remove the smaller cable on my starter battery is the auxiliary battery still somehow connected to the firewall? Or do I need to remove the negative cable directly from the auxiliary battery? Thanks, Chris
@@AdventurousRedJeep from what I’ve heard the only difference on the 2021 and up is that they swapped the connections on the main battery end. So yours will look reversed from mine, the smaller diameter cable should still be the negative coming up from the aux battery. So removing it will isolate that aux battery down below. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching Chris!
So when people do the bypass disconnect (pull fuse and tape off negative wire), then do they just leave the aux battery where it is? I suppose there is no harm in leaving it in the vehicle for years to come.
Yeah I left mine in, it shouldn’t be an issue. If you do decide to remove it completely you will have to run the Aux positive lead up to the main battery and tape off the negative lead. Thanks for watching the video!
I’m not sure, I didn’t run into that problem on mine. If it’s not something you can solder and repair you might have to replace it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Saw you replace main battery and deactivate the fuse for the small battery but didn’t see small battery being taken out, did you just leave the dead small a battery in??
Yeah I left it in just in case I wanted to swap back for a warranty issue or something of that nature. It’s a nice easy mod, I’d definitely recommend it!
Going to try this today. My 21 gladiator has been charging at 12.5 volts for 3 or 4 days and barely started yesterday. The dealer replaced the aux battery once while it was still under the electronics warranty but that was 25,000 miles ago. I’m hoping I can disconnect aux battery and the main battery will recover without having to be replaced.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD No joy on the main battery recovering. Truck wouldn’t start even with jump pack or cables. Pulled the stock battery and had auto parts store try and charge it they said it was toast. I spent the money today on an Interstate AGM battery and with the aux battery disconnected everything works the same. I can tell you though that the auto start stop does still activate if you don’t hit the switch. I was too busy paying attention to gauges when starting and forgot to hit the button and at a stop light it shut off and started back up when I hit the button to kill it. Thank you for the advice. I’m hoping between the better battery and the aux disconnect I don’t have to worry about this for 5 or 6 years.

@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD one last question for you. Since doing the delete I’m noticing a fluctuation in charging voltage from as low as 12.7 up to 14. Thanks for the video but i wanted to know if removing the fuse and the negative wire stops the aux battery from draining my main battery? Also will the auto start stop working without me having to push the button inside

You will still have to push the stop/start button every time unless you have a Tazer and can reprogram it. Thanks for watching the video, let me know if you have any more questions!
Yes it will be the smaller negative cable going to the main battery, if you remove the wrong one the Jeep won’t start. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
This mod doesn’t eliminate the stop start system, it just eliminates the problematic aux battery. You will still have to push the button to turn it off every time you drive or get a programmer. Thanks for watching the video. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the great video. I bought a Duracell H6 from Sam's Club in Feb of this year, and it died a couple of months later. Sam's replaced it under warranty, and yesterday it died again. Both times the battery was showing it was defective on their load tester, so it's not like it was only needing a charge. It's worth noting that my ESS has been "unavailable" for a few months now with the amber Avengers dash light on. Sam's gave me a full refund on the H6, so I picked up a EverStart (China) Platinum AGM H7 from Walmart since nearly every town in the USA seems to have one. I performed the Aux bypass as shown in the video. The Off-Road app still functions correctly, and my ESS is working again. With that said IF I do not push the ESS disable button on the dash are there any issues with the H7 handling ESS on it's own since the AUX is now bypassed?
I’m glad you were able to get a refund and get the large H7 battery. I have forgotten to turn the ESS button off a few times and everything functions fine. It will just use the main battery for the accessories when the motor is off during an ESS cycle. Thanks for watching the video, John!
I followed the instructions and also installed a new main battery (dead aux battery drained the main). Worked perfectly for a day but the “ESS not available” light came on again today. Triple checked that I pulled the correct fuse. Any ideas? Is my new main battery getting drained even with the negative terminal disconnected??
With the negative cable to the auxiliary battery disconnected, it takes that battery out of the loop so it shouldn’t be draining your new main battery. I have seen where new batteries have bad cells, so having it checked is probably not a bad idea. The auto parts store will test it for free. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Going through a bricked '22 Jeep 4xe for the 2nd time in 6 days. Changed my stock for the Odyssey, in the first trip to the dealership the "mechanic" blamed the error and dead Jeep on the new battery when I know (at least I have a strong inclination), its the aux battery that's failing.
According to what I’ve read, the 4xe doesn’t have an Aux battery. It has the big battery under the back seat that handles that job. I would have the dealership figure it out, I’m assuming you still have your bumper to bumper warranty.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD You are correct, there isn't an aux battery, I feel like a ping pong ball, the dealership says the odyssey is the problem, the shop I bought it from says it the 4xe and dealership. I try to look at bright things in life but holy f**k this past week hasn't helped.
@@gareman9417 yeah that sounds like a headache, do you still have your old battery? I would try a different dealership if you have another one fairly close. If all else fails contact Jeep Cares and file a claim they will contact the dealership on your behalf, good luck man!
My 2.0T has the trailer tow package. Found an Odyssey H7 nearby. Pulled the fuse, and with my 2021 the connector was reversed. To make it hook up nicely I cut the aux battery cable off at the connector (committed at that point!). That new battery had to be 10-15 lbs heavier than the OEM. Anyhow my Willys is happy again and I’m sure I gained at least 10hp. 😂
Yes, you will still have to push the button on startup. You can get a programmer and have it remember your last setting if you want. Thanks for watching the video!
The Jeep won’t start if you disconnect the main negative lead. If you disconnect the smaller diameter one and pull the fuse you will be all set. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
I did this with 2021 Gladiator and it seemed to have worked great other than I have lost off road and manual reverse camera buttons on Uconnect. If I put the jeep in reverse the back up camera works. But if I put it in 4 wheel drive and and hit the off road button ( right next to axel lock ) the off road screen will appear on Uconnect but will not open the actual app. Hoping maybe this is just from disconnecting the battery and will reset itself. BTW I did try resetting Uconnect with no luck.
That’s interesting, I don’t have the off-road pages on mine and haven’t noticed any difference since the Aux delete. I’d try it for awhile and if you don’t like it it’s always an easy swap back to stock. I do know they changed some things for the 2021 model year so that may be why it’s a little different. Let me know what you find out, thanks for watching Michael!
I have a 2020. Ran aux cables to main battery (hot to hot, ground to ground). No fuses pulled. Everything works perfectly. Sometime in 2021 this fuse pull thing came about. Try putting it back in…
Did you ever get it fixed? I just did this to mine and lost my backup cam and off-road pages along with passengers heated seats. Also my infotainment center is now blue and shows Uconnect instead of the original one. 2020 gladiator
If you decide to remove it, you will need to move the auxiliary positive lead up to the main battery positive terminal. And then just tape off the negatives. It’s a bit more work. It doesn’t hurt anything to leave the battery in but it’s up to you. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
@frostbiteoffroad first thank you for the awesome video. Can you clarify for the fuse is it F42? On mine it show is a 5A fuse. It does say the same description and yours. Mine is a 20 wrangler. Thank you sir.
I do know they changed some stuff for the newer ones, if it’s the same position and description than I would think it would work the same. It doesn’t hurt to try, thanks for watching the video!
Please get back to me on this question: I have a new h6 battery and my auxiliary battery is dead, is it a good idea just to disable the auxiliary battery once it’s already dead by taking out the fuse, when I have a new H6 battery installed or just simple get a new auxiliary battery and then disable the auxiliary battery? I still have a warranty on the 2019 Jeep wrangler.
I was in the same scenario when I did mine. I left my dead aux battery in the vehicle and then bypassed it and ran a new main battery. I wouldn’t waste the money on another aux battery if you are planning on running the bypass. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD I replace the main battery cause the auxiliary battery cause it to over heat and leak and now the auxiliary it dead so don’t tell me it’s the main battery I’ll just take out the dead auxiliary battery and tape up the negative and positive terminal. Since there is no other solution to this problem
@@FROSTBITEOFFROADwell you know what I still replace the main battery and I still get the same problem now I’ll have to take out the aux battery and not have one
If you hit the button to turn off the start/stop button every time you start the vehicle, do you have anything to worry about regarding the aux battery going dead?
I replaced the large battery, removed fuse 42, and removed and taped off the thin negative cable about a week or so ago. I drove it this morning and the ESS turned the jeep off and on at a traffic light. I was under the impression that this would make the ESS feature stop working. Am I wrong? Also, volts were at 12.9 while idle. 14 whild driving. I have it on a trickle charger/maintainer now.
You still have to push the button on the dash to turn off ESS every time you drive or get a Tazer to leave it off like I mentioned. The voltage will fluctuate, the alternator is charging the battery while driving and at idle it will be around 12v so no need to trickle charge it. Mine has been working no problem for over a month now, let me know if you have any more questions.
12.7 v is perfect at idle... your battery is good and charged. You can buy an ASS eliminator for less than $100.. some are even $50. This plugs into the same place as a Tazer... but ONLY effects the start/stop feature. It gives you control of the system, it has a memory , so if you turn it off, it stays off without any more button pushing until you want to turn it back on.
Hey there, so simply switching the fuse and removing the negative terminal is enough to disable the aux battery? Does this reroute the start stop to the main battery or disable it permanently? Also, can the aux battery and the positive and negative lines attached to it be left in the jeep?
Yes, this mod will remove the aux battery from the loop. It will still run the stop start system on the main battery unless you get a programer to disable it. I simply just pushed the button to disable it on start ups. You can leave the lower cables and aux battery in the vehicle, making it easier if you want to switch back to stock. Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks, love this but when I did it to my 2020 JT it zapped my XM app and backup camera. So I put it back the way it was and over some time and refreshing my XM signal it all came back. Now I am hesitant to try it again. Any suggestions?
6 it is.....also note I think you need to have the disabled button on before you try taking the fuse out and disconnecting. After a few sequences I finally have no light on the dash and no auto start. So we are completely disabled . @@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
update: So I did this on my 2020 JT, no light, disconnected the negative (the correct one) and pulled the ESS fuse. Drove for about 10 minutes and worked, many stops and engine kept running. The left me message on this video. The next day, somehow the Gladiator is stopping again at a full stop. I have to push the disable button for this to work. So somehow the jeep is now using the main battery for Auto stop/start. I am miffed@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
@@kevinwilliamson2214 this mod won’t eliminate the ESS, it just bypasses the aux battery. I still push the button every time I drive just like before. You can gat a Tazer and it will remember you’re last setting.
I just followed your instructions on my 2020 JT. Removed fused, removed negative cable. Installed an H7 battery. Now my radio has blue accent instead of orange. I lost my back up camera and off road pages. What’s going on?!
Did you try driving it and cycling the battery a couple times, I know when my battery was going out it acted up a bit. You do have a 3.6 non e-torque correct?
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD thanks for the reply. It is working now. Yes 3.6 non etorq for future people having sane issue. Here is what I did. I took a short drive. I did cycle battery a few times and still nothing. But turns out just letting the JT sit shut off for 30 minutes updated everything.
The aux battery is just for the ESS system so you won’t loose any functionality from this mod. I did see a couple comments about loosening the off-road pages on Rubicon’s but don’t know if that’s related or not, I have a Sport S model and nothing was affected. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video!
It will probably shorten the lifespan of the main battery a little but many manufacturers have stop start systems with one battery so I imagine you’ll be fine, thanks for watching the video!
2019 Rubicon JL, 12,000 miles, 2 L Turbo 4 I was getting error messages pertaining to auxiliary switches unavailable, and have replaced the chassis battery 3 times. Dealer told me it was the auxiliary battery. I took it to my local repair guy who dropped the fender liner and pulled the auxiliary battery case. It was empty! No cables, nothing. Case looked like a battery was never there. Everything i saw online indicated this auxiliary battery was under the fuse block, accessible thru the fender liner. Any advice?
You must have an e-torque model, they have a high voltage battery under the rear seat and no alternator or aux battery. I’m not sure why you’re getting that error if your main battery voltage is good. That error comes on with low voltage. Hope this helped, thanks for watching!

Thank you.

It's been over a year since you disconnected the aux battery, how's the jeep running so far with just tge main batter?
Hi,
I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly.
Joe
Glad the video helped you out Joe, thanks for watching it!

Glad it helped!
Best video on this yet. You actually took the time to show where the fuse was located.

Thank you very much for the absolutely important information you supplied. Especially for those of us that go off-roading far into the wilderness. For those instances, the aux battery makes the vehicle unreliable. Great video.
Yeah, I’m definitely more confident in this battery setup. Thanks for watching the video!
No problem, I’m glad the video helped you get the Jeep back up and running!
are you still getting the Aux switches unavailable warning?

Best video ever but can i do the samething to the factory battier now if its not dead without buying a new one

What about wrapping the pos and neg cables from the aux battery? I completely took out the small aux battery.
Well done!Is there any need to upgrade to an H7 battery after the aux delete?
It’s not entirely necessary but it is a nice upgrade if you’re running a lot of accessories. Also if you do still use ESS it’s 100% on your main battery now, just something to consider. Thanks for watching the video!
Great video. Is there a special tool needed to remove the fuse? Or can it be removed with just pliers? Never done anything like this before. Thanks!
No special tools are needed but most factory fuse panels come with a removal tool. The fuses are plastic though so just be careful not to crack them with pliers. This is a nice easy mod to start with, thanks for watching the video!

Great video. But nothing seems to work for me. Heading to the dealer on Monday 😢
Good luck, thanks for watching the video!
Where do you put the positive from the aux battery?Do you just add it to the main positive?
The positive aux battery lead is already attached to the main battery so no need to do anything with it. You just need to remove the negative aux lead from the main battery and pull the fuse. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Great video and I followed it in detail, to bypass the auxiliary battery but I'm still getting the warning light on the dashboard about the aux start. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brother!
It should go away after you drive it a bit, if it doesn’t I’d pull your main battery and have it tested at NAPA to see if it’s going out. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Absolute perfect vid!!! Thanks
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Have you pulled out the aux battery and fully eliminated it yet
No I left it in, figured I’d take it out if I ever had the fender off. Those clips usually break and need replacing on the factory fenders. It’s worked great with no issues so far as is, thanks for watching the video!
I wonder if it’s possible to relocate the aux battery and replace it with a yellow top with blowing any fuses etc
It sounds like you have a good backup plan, thanks for watching the video!

Thanks for this info
However i had followed every steps in disabling aux battery but the auto stop start still working.
Had i missed any thing my car is GCC spec
The start/stop system will still work, this mod eliminates the aux battery. You will have to push the button to turn it off when you start the Jeep unless you get a Tazer to reprogram it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Much appreciated i understand now
@@zahrrs0d no problem!
Hi Bryan,
Thank you very much for your video.
I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything)
Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle?
Thank you.
Best,
G
Yeah, if the small battery is the culprit then you should be able to do this mod and jump your main battery and be good to go. If the main battery got too low on voltage you might want to replace it, hope this helps thanks for watching!
If you are stranded with a bad auxiliary battery, can you pull the fuse and disconnect the ground wire on it to get started again, or is your main battery now dead as well, requiring a jump?
This mod will trick the system into only monitoring the main battery, so yes this should help to get you off the trail if you have a way to jump the main battery. Hope this helps, thanks for watching Mitchell!
Great video!
Thanks for watching it!
Any idea on how to repair the connection cable to the ibs sensor on the negative terminal
Yeah hopefully that does the trick, a new battery isn’t cheap. Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching the video Andy!
@@andyofalltrades I’m glad you were able to get the Jeep up and running again. Yeah that new battery plus the aux delete should give you a long service life. You do still have to push the button every time unless you have a programmer to make it stay off, it’s like second nature for me to hit it on startup. Thanks again for watching Andy!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD one last question for you. Since doing the delete I’m noticing a fluctuation in charging voltage from as low as 12.7 up to 14. I’m almost positive my alternator is still doing it’s job as it’s been 2 days since installing the new battery and no other issues. Did you see any changes in voltage on your gauge?
@@andyofalltrades yeah that’s the same numbers I’m seeing, it’s usually 12.7 at idle and 14 something while driving. It’s still working great and I’m happy with the peace of mind the delete provided. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks again for watching Andy!
Thanks for the video but i wanted to know if removing the fuse and the negative wire stops the aux battery from draining my main battery? Also will the auto start stop working without me having to push the button inside
Yeah, this mod eliminates the aux battery from the equation so you don’t have to worry about that aux battery anymore. You will still have to push the stop/start button every time unless you have a Tazer and can reprogram it. Thanks for watching the video, let me know if you have any more questions!
Aux battery ground....skinny cable? 2020 JT here for reference.
Yes it will be the smaller negative cable going to the main battery, if you remove the wrong one the Jeep won’t start. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD Thank you for your prompt reply!
@ no problem, enjoy that JT!
I tried the steps you talk about in this video but no luck the on stop is still working a have a 2021 Mojave is there any other steps for this model.
This mod doesn’t eliminate the stop start system, it just eliminates the problematic aux battery. You will still have to push the button to turn it off every time you drive or get a programmer. Thanks for watching the video. I hope this helps!
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD it sure does thanks
I can’t recall but I may have disconnected the negative terminal before pulling the fuse. Unsure, but is the sequence important?
This is awesome.. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you I will be doing this today
Have fun!
Nice video, thanks for the info!
No problem!
@@ibppjr our Jeeps could always use an extra 10hp haha, thanks for watching the video!
Do I still have to push the Stop/Start battery every time? Or will it just not function?
Yes, you will still have to push the button on startup. You can get a programmer and have it remember your last setting if you want. Thanks for watching the video!
Is there a way to know if you disconnected the correct ground? I have a 2020 Sahara.
Try putting it back in…
Thanks Tinker but I guess it was just the computer trying to figure out what happened , everything went back to normal by itself.

Do you still have to hit the button each time you start up?
Yes, this mod just removes the aux battery from the loop. You can get a programmer to keep it off if you want.
Does it make sense to remove the aux battery? Not sure if I should leave mine installed?
I did what you suggested, I removed the negative power from the terminal and the fuse and I still get that light. So tell what is wrong now?
It’s probably a bad main battery, that’s what happened with mine. I’d run it down to NAPA and get it tested. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I always turned mine off and my battery eventually died. Thankfully I was in the garage not out in the woods lol, thanks for watching the video!
That does sound odd, I haven’t heard of anyone loosing the camera or XM. Everything still functions as normal on mine. What motor is in your JT?
6 it is.....also note I think you need to have the disabled button on before you try taking the fuse out and disconnecting. After a few sequences I finally have no light on the dash and no auto start. So we are completely disabled

I was getting error messages pertaining to auxiliary switches unavailable, and have replaced the chassis battery 3 times.
Thanx for your detailed reply. I agree... the dealer missed this one and sent me on a wild goose chase. Will pursue other options.
