      You could also try cleaning the idle air control valve. Mine was dirty on my supercharged 3.8 engine and I had issues starting the car after it was warmed up. The transmission could be serviced and maybe fix the shifting issue with a new filter and fluid and a transgo shift kit, but that could be more money than you're willing to put into the car.

      I had a hand me down 82 Ford product in the early 90s. It was a carbureted 2.3 liter. When it did the sputter and chug I tried all the local premium brands of gas. I found that Union 76 premium had the best additive package in the area because my engine ran like it was in tune. Then I timed it changed the plugs fuel filter and air filter and PCV and ran it on regular. Unfortunately Union 76 pulled out of the area so I don't know if they still have the best additive package in premium gas but they certainly did back then.

    I don't know if that particular fuel additive is available in Europe, but the only additive I've tried that genuinely improves anything is Redex. I've tried others but they don't seem to fix anything. Even at a normal low dilution the Redex cleans and improves performance over time. I stop using it and the engine keeps running better than before I used the additive. I used it in every car I've had for over 30 years motoring.

    Had a 2002 Buick LeSabre 3800 v6 bought new. Had good mechanics, had one problem starting and stall out - it was Crank shaft position sensor. My long time Chevy mechanic couldn’t figure out - ( around 190,000 mi) got real bad, took to Buick shop - younger mechanic knew the history on engine - crank shaft position sensor - started like brand new (@ 250,000 miles fixed). Used both shops - had to send to salvage yard at 20 years old 273,000. Leather seats interior - no cracks. Underside rust rot - Chicagoland winter salt killed it. Brake lines rotted away - fixed 3-4x. Replaced head gasket 2x, every engine sensor, alternator. Replaced Spark plugs100,000 mi. BG products fuel cleaning injectors, rails, gas additive- no fuel problems- fuel pump pressure perfect for life. Rear air shock replaced once, front struts replaced once, front wheel bearing once ( left side 110,000 and right side 210,000). Normal transmission service - no issue. Brakes every 85,000 mi. I appreciated having very good mechanics 👍.

Change the wheel bearing with one that has the abs sensor in it and the ABS light will go off..another part issue is the wiring at the hub cracks. So it can cause the abs light to come on and off depending on how far the wheels turned.

    • @Montgomerygolfgator
      @Montgomerygolfgator Год назад +3

      @@cas2985It's both... If you change the fluid, you should keep changing the fluid. This is what's best for longevity. If you never change the fluid, then you're already screwed, but changing it will just cause it to fail sooner. The explanation of why is complicated, and has to do with how the transmission surfaces wear. Generally speaking though, you want to change it for best results. You also want to change it, if the manufacturer/dealer says it's sealed, doubly so if it's a CVT from Nissan. It's part of how they're trying to reduce the lifespan of the cars.

    Hi Scotty! I hope all is well. I am a novice with cars and how it even tick. Thanks to you I learned few tricks here and there. By the way, I have a 2010 Chevy Malibu 3.6L V6 LTZ, that stalls. If it successfully starts, dash indicates all are fine. A few minutes when car heats up but temperature remains one bar below the midline, if AC and radio are on it begins to shut-off, then these false error comes on, Service Air Bag, ESC off Traction off... same thing happens when either of the AC and radio initially are turned-off. Then the engine shakes prior to shutting off completely. I already replaced with brand new battery, collant temperature sensor, purge valve, cleaned the throttle body and some connectors. Both fans in front auto-turns on when temperature hits the range when it has to. I had to reinstall the MAF that originally came with it, since it seemed the third-party part I purchased generated P0171 and P0174 lean code... suspecting not the right part or defective from factory. Lately, I got a P0113 AIT. I could not locate the AIT on the car. Could it be integrated on the MAF? Does the symptoms point to MAF replacement? You insights or suggestions are truly appreciated. Thank you.

It’s been an insanely reliable car, never breaking down on my, just a few smaller issues here and there. I’ve also got a ‘84 fiero I’m working on getting it running. It’s such a cool and unique car. @@robyn1042I just looked up how much a whole new sensor is, and it's not too bad. $50 for some no name, to $170 for a genuine GM and all kinds of options in-between. While cleaning it might help (the cleaner is available at your local auto parts store) it's usually better long term solution to just replace it. Heck, there's an $85 MAF sensor at my local parts store. Takes a screwdriver to change, two hose clamps and a connector. Pretty easy!
