  • DUNE 3 has been CONFIRMED by Legendary Pictures to be in development, working with Denis Villeneuve to ensure they have a suitable script before they look to greenlight production. However, it's now being reported that Warner Bros. is looking to make a controversial move that could very well upset both the director and Legendary, potentially dissuading them from moving forward with Dune 3.

FYI: The recent announcements of DEVELOPMENT of DUNE 3 by Legendary are a confirmation of facts that have been widely known since 2023. DEVELOPMENT includes the writing of the screenplay which is still happening and has been happening for several months. This video covers WB's threats to PRODUCTION, not DEVELOPMENT. Hope that clears up any confusion!

Hey @nerdcookies you just last week said Dune 3 is likely not happening, now the controversial change of your title is not a story change, but a difference due to when the film can be streamed, thereby keeping film in theaters longer…
You think this is going to keep Denis from continuing this partial told story?
I like your commentary on published material, however your take on developing “news” stories is suspect and i wont watch your future attempts at PRESCIENCE, because i think you are getting signals and mixing them up.
Also try mentioning AT&T in the title not WB which is a film studio, AT&T as Denis said is a behemoth telecoms conglomerate out of touch with humanity. That was the named/quoted entity, not WB.

    • @NerdCookies
      @NerdCookies  6 месяцев назад +1

I never said it was likely not happening. I simply said that the comments indicated that it was NOT AS LIKELY as some assumed. It's not a sure thing. The proof of this is that production has not been green lit. Only development by Legendary.

The things you speak of are negotiating points. Again id be concerned if we are changing narratives, however this is just a part of how the money gets distributed and in cases where stories can alter human understanding the money is secondary to the TRUE ARTIST which is what Denis Villeneuve is, he has a story to tell, if he can tell it he will, the backend $ distribution is secondary to an Auteur, the message is paramount.

Just a side note. Do not order streaming services like disney+, Paramount, Max, and other studio owned services. We should only pay for central unaffiliated streaming services. When every studio and content owner starts to hold their content hostage for their own platform, we start to lose access to that content, unless you are ready to shell out serious money. And if you have Netflix, Hulu, even amazon prime, don't pay extra for the extra modules either. Force them to distribute the movies thru centralized services like they had to when we rented or bought physical media. It will save everyone money, and keep the content more accessible.

IMHO, the best formula for us consumers, is not a pay-per-month or yearly subscription, but rather a pay-per-view : renting whatever you want and like, whenever you want. Those streaming companies don't even need to deploy bricks-and-mortar "shops" filled with stockrooms of DVDs and BDs for renting! The problem is that our anti-trust (+conflict of purpose and interests) laws have gone in the trash-bin : the rental boutique wants to also be the producer and editor, making the consumers/cinema lovers pay for their cupid/power-monger ill-devised business plans. It's like Blizzard who wanted to force gamers to play AAA micro-transaction games on their cell phones... When the client is considered a serf, a "faire-valoir", it means that our paradigms have been turned upside-down, and it's called fascism. When the greedy needs of a cynical few, supersedes the well-being of the multitude...

Dune Messiah has been greenlit. It's going to happen. The timing might not be to everyone's liking as Villenueve has another film (at least) to do before doing Dune Messiah. He is going to get the screenplay/script right before he goes to film. That's a definite. I'm not surprised by WB moving Dune 2 to streaming. Honestly I don't know the numbers the movie is still doing in the theaters but these days a movie rarely has more than a month (at most) in the theater anyway. WB is just trying to get more money from another revenue stream. No big shock there. It could be that people who can't afford to se the movie in the theater will see it on streaming and it will only cause more of a clamor to make Dune Messiah (in fact I'm betting on it). One question I have is in the video the horst states that Legendary and Sony have a deal now. So WB has the rights to Dune 1 and Dune 2. What if Legendary and Sony make Dune Messiah? There wouldn't (hopefully) be the conflict with Sony. Sony would probably jump a the chance to make another Dune Blockbuster.

You could interpret both for being greedy in their own right. Denis wants more theater money denying the wider audience that hates sitting in a theater with others spoiling the experience. He's trying to gatehold 'the art of cinema' by saying only those who are willing to sit in a theater are true movie fans? *cough* bullshit *cough*. Now HE is the one saying he won't make the movie? In my opinion he's made a mistake by throwing a fit. The film has already made a great amount of money and was locked-in to be made despite the 'sensationalist reporting' claiming it was in any kind of jeopardy blaming WB that came out just last week. This is just more stupid drama. If the film doesn't happen it's the blame of all their behaviors, not just one entity over the other. He's already made enough millions to justify his work on the project. I'm sick of greedy millionaires crying that they didn't make even MORE millions of dollars off a single project. That amount of money is just stupid money that normal people can't even comprehend. imo he needs to just stfu and do his job and make the movie if he really cares about 'the art of cinema' not the 'art of getting paid'.
Booooooo on all the drama and sensationalist reporting.

    • @SoshiMECH
      @SoshiMECH 5 месяцев назад +1

@NerdCookies I'm not sure where this pessimistic attitude is coming from? The chances that DUNE 3 is not going to be made is about 0.0001% and if they bring a movie to streaming early then the promotion and hype that made it successful at the cinema will have a flow on effect to it's digital release. If they wait 6 months before releasing it on digital, then that momentum will be lost, and they will have to ramp up promotion again. I think a month and a half or two months after the theatrical release is not too bad. I got the see DUNE 1 in IMAX just before the release of DUNE 2, and well after its digital release, so the opportunity to see DUNE 2 in cinemas/IMAX will come around again. At any rate, the early digital release will have zero effect on the potential release of DUNE 3. Baring any catastrophic disasters, it's going to happen.

Cookies, this is a little bit click-baity. This is what Villeneuve agreed to after the debacle of Dune Part One's simultaneous release and Dune Part Two was always planned to hit streaming mid to late April and has been listed as such for months on sites like DVD Release Dates etc.
Given the state of many countries at the time of Dune Part One's initial release, and many territories still wouldn't open cinemas, even the simultaneous release wasn't entirely unjustified. I live in one of many countries that were still under restrictions at the time and am personally grateful I was able to see it at all when it was released, no matter the format. I had to wait months to be able to watch both "Maverick" and "No Way Home" legally. I don't go for bootlegs, I support the creators.

I agree, movies need a longer cinematic run but I don't think it's quite the case that production of Messiah is threatened due to this issue; unfortunately it's basically the industry model now in many cases and most creators are aware of this. After Scarlett Johansson threatened to sue for loss of income after what happened with Black Widow, I'm pretty sure most studios and creators have their ducks in a row with regards to these negotiations.

I'm 50/50 on this. I absolutely adore the movie theater experience, always have since I was a kid over 3 decades ago. But there's something to be said to be able to enjoy the movie next to your loved ones in your own home. Pause it to get get another serving of Kung pao chicken or use the rest room, or turn on closed captioning because of how the audio mix is now. When you go to a movie theater you are beholden not just to the restrictions of the theater in both comfort, time management, and also the crap shoot of those around you, but also also not only have to pay a premium for the privileged but also other cost factors such as gas, time, and schedule. If they could find a way to monetize it for all involved so that everyone benefits in a way, then I'm game for it.
The other factor why I'm 50/50 on this is the Dune universe isn't a movie universe. There's so much depth and so much story we have to skip or cut out, and quite frankly it would be awesome to see it. While die hard fans (like me) love seeing it in theaters, having it come to a streaming service sooner where a more casual fan can be hyped up about it can lead into traffic to make more series and things about that universe. There's the upcoming Sisterhood series, and it would be smart marketing to have both Dune movies available for the casual fan to enjoy it. But then again there's always the risk of too much saturation.

I don’t know if it’s the case with you, but I feel like that extended trilogy set some sort of unrealistic standard in my head. We don’t fucking need to see a lopsided extended version! It kills directors to have to cut certain things. Listen to DV talk about it.
So much work goes into editing the film down to the final cut, so it would throw the whole thing off. I assume it’s at least a year of just editing. It’s fucking hard work.
Like I said, we got spoiled by LotR extended… but LotR were made all at the same time, starting in the early 90s. They released one year after the next starting in 2001.
I honestly think DVs Dune is treading different waters and I think they pulled off something amazing. It can’t hold a candle to LotR, imo, but people seem to love it and I that’s all i could hope for. And if it turns people onto the books that could only be a plus for society.
So, yeah, Dune had to sell the first one to have a second green lit. It’s unfortunate the Dune trilogy is going to take the better part of a decade to be seen as a whole… I personally feel the LotR extended versions aren’t paced well and it makes it feel like something is off. Peter Jackson even stands by the theatrical cuts as being the definitive versions.
I honestly enjoy the movies more watching at home. Its stimulation overload in IMAX.
Your comment sounds so pedantic. Anyone who respects the insane amount of work that goes into making these film adaptations a success, as DVs team has, they wouldn’t fuss like you. If you think getting an extended version is going to fix all your problems, then I feel like you have deeper issues.
DV tells poetry with the visuals and I love his adaptation. I’m a huge lover of the books and understand film enough to not to fuss over it not hitting every beat I want it to. Visually it’s a 10/10. Hard to argue. Even on smaller screens I find it looks great.

I may not have agreed with a lot of the creative decisions Villeneuve made, but he did craft another beautiful film well worth seeing in IMAX. (Like Dune Part One, and Blade Runner 2049 before it). Dune Part Two must be allowed to continue its theatrical run, unfettered by premature moving to streaming.

I can pause it to make a sandwich or go to the bathroom. I can drink beer or have cocktails or whatever 😉 in peace. I don't have to sit around annoying inconsiderate people that'll hold full conversations with each other or talk on the phone or who've seen it before and blurt out spoilers. I can make the sound as loud or as quiet as I wish. I can replay the parts I like, or maybe to catch subtle nuances that might be missed because of the person squeezing past me as they return from the concession stand or bathroom. I have a huge hi-def TV and a good sound system. Why would I want to go to a theater? Theaters have practically priced themselves out of existence. If a movie is subpar as many movies are these days, I can not finish it and I'm not out $50 or more. It's streaming for me all the way.

Why am I not surprised? It doesn't really matter what the product or service is, or does: when business, especially big business, gets involved in something, it ceases to be about that thing, and instead becomes about how much money can be made, how much profit can be wrung out. Unfortunately for the film industry, it has wholly subscribed to this philosophy, with the success or failure of any given film measured by how much money it takes at the box office balanced against how much is spent making it.
I understand to some degree that this is how any economy works, but in the case of the movie industry, given that the whole industry of entertainment is undergoing rapid and widespread diversification, it is clear that many entertainment media have lost, or are losing, sight of what exactly it is they are doing. For them it has become wholly about the money, but in focussing on this sole aspect, they may end up killing the industry.
Economics is a subject I do not understand. It seems that it's single rule is 'Growth is Good'. Yet there are very few systems where sustained growth is completely supportable, and in biology, something that continuously grows is viewed with great wariness, even concern, and may need to be cut out of an organism if it is considered to be excessive. In this regard, business, and especially big business, seem more like cancers to me than something sustainable.
For far too long, people have been shrugging their shoulders and saying: "Well, that's show business."
Perhaps, as levels of corporate business greed are reaching even greater heights, more people are waking up to the fact that such a system, with it's hunger for yet more profit, is actually bad for things like entertainment!

thank Jah it will be on streaming soon ... movies theatres except for Imax is dead ... what these rich directors don't get is most people don't care about their "art" ... they just want to be entertained.

The never-ending quest for obscene profits by WB (or any large entity), sully anything & everything it touches.

First movie for me held hope despite minor changes in lore. Second film dashed it with so radical departures of character and lore especially Chani. Left me feeling like i had been baited in the first film and switched in the second. I no longer have hope for Messiah and don't give a damn if it's made.

here we go again, WB always makes bad decisions, no matter how hard they try they won't be able to get their streaming service up, they are just sabotaging an incredible movie that could be a bigger hit

Yeah Warners Brother’s decision is a very bad, short sighted idea that was made just from greed for their own bottom line 😡 Thai is ridiculous

I kinda wonder if there is more to this story. Specifically thinking that the Director could stand to lose money by the movie ending its theatrical run early?

The actors and director are just mad because THEY won't make as much money. Go on strike again. No one really cares anymore.

I'd honestly go and see it again if it was still at the IMAX, I love Bill Murray, but that's not a movie that needs that kind of screen.

It's because there is an obvious parallel with the Arab Palestinians and the Fremen. The Harkonnens with the Israelis.

45 days after theatre release if that’s in the contract and all the parties have agreed to that, that’s what should happen there people who are waiting for this as this the cheapest option for them. It can be very expensive to go to the movies
I agreed that the best experience is to watch these movies is in the cinema
