    I think not having Esmar Tuek's death in the first part kinda makes adding his son Stabban Tuek in the second part less worthwhile including. Personally i would have rather had the fremen/spacing guild dealings portrayed in which the fremen provide spice to spacing guild secretly in order to keep southern side of arrakis free from satelite monitoring. Would show the spacing guild's main loyalty to spice above all things.

    Out of all of those either totally absent (Count Fenring the Emperors closest most trusted friend and himself a failed attempt for the Kwiazt Haderach), or those given short shrift ( the smugglers and Thufir Hawat who was particularly close to Paul and went on to serve a similar role in educating Feyd - Rautha) the most egregious in terms of importance of power was the Spacing Guild.
    In the film they are just treated as Uber drivers for the Imperium while in the book they hold the greatest power of all. Without them there would be no spice trade or the ability for travel from one planet to another. The Emperor and the Great Houses would be isolated and cut off from each other, there would be no Imperium.
    If the Emeror's Sardukar and the combined might of the Houses balanced each other then it was the Spicing Guild that put a thumb to that scale tipping it to themselves and their ability to totally control travel in the universe. They were the ones most threatened by Paul's ability to destroy the spice by destroying the worms reproductive cycle. In the final confrontation with Paul and the Emperor they weren't even present.
    A complex story of political and religious struggles reduced to the hero's journey, the obvious bad guys in the Emperor and Baron Harkonnen and the real would be puppet masters of them all, the Bene Jesserit are like blunt swords to the razor sharp complexities of the book.

    A counter-argument against Nelson playing Tuek is when you look at the artwork for Dune Imperium: Uprising (which is based on the second movie) for both Esmar and Staban. Staban is portrayed as much too young for Nelson. Esmar looks more like he could fit the bill for the actor, but given how accurate the boardgames artwork is to the movie it's not a perfect match either.
    Sure, it's just a boardgame but just as with the first game, the developers were given access to visual material long before the movies release and you can see a lot of the movie closely represented in the cards. For example in Uprising there is a "Captured Mentat" card where you can see Thufir in captivity (even though he was also cut from Part 2). It could just be that Nelsons inclusion in the movie came about after the artwork for the boardgame was done, or they didn't wanna spoil his role prior to the movies release. But yea it's a bit weird with all the hush-hush about Nelsons role so long after the movie came out.

    I think Mr. Nelson was a perfect choice. I'd almost forgotten about the smugglers. That was an interesting part of the story that I wish would have gotten more light in these films. But of course the flow and especially pace nd run time of a Theatrically Released Movie is important, so I understand why Denis cut things the way he did. Still I'm so glad you talked about this most fascinating dynamic of the story. That's why I love this channel.🙃😉

    I’m not curious, this is not Herbert’s Dune it is Villeneuve’s version and it is an inferior version. I have more respect for Lynch now because the studio gave him so much trouble yet he made a more satisfying movie.

    • @tjs114
      @tjs114 3 месяца назад +4

      Agreed. Villeneuve may have done great scenery, the acting for the most part is utterly wooden even by people working their bleeps off and there might even be less dialog in his 2 movies than the single Lynch film.
      Villeneuve fixated on strange things, then left major events basically glossed over.

    • @andresbaltimore9791
      @andresbaltimore9791 3 месяца назад +1

      I have to agree with you. I think the glossing over of the political forces that define Herbert's universe makes the new adaptation very hollow. I used to think that hearing the thoughts of the characters in Lynch's movie made it cheesy, but the absence of the dialogue makes the spoken word sound a little less impactful.
