Cast Iron Apothecary Cabinet with Repurposed Treadle Sewing Machine Drawers
I was commissioned to repurpose some treadle sewing machine drawer into a set of apothecary cabinets. After some brainstorming I decided to use some of the cast iron structure as the framework for the cabinets. I also managed to use almost all of the rest of the original treadle for other upcycled furniture. (Not shown in this video)
I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!

Turned spot on. I love all the old time iron work and how you have given it new life is awesome!
Thanks Scott. These last few have been fun to do.
What a wonderful execution, I love the drawers they are so cute and looking for creative ways to repurpose they. Almost gives it an apothecary feel to them
Thanks so much 😊
Very good job. New life to a oldie but goodie.
Thanks!
I love this, i always knew those old machines make nice furniture but i never thought of this type of mod, fantastic.
Thank you!
That is absolutely stunning!
Thanks!
My OCD was wigging out over the twist. I was overjoyed when you finally addressed it because I would have had a hard time moving on.
Me too my friend....Me too. :)
I have that exact table with the machine. Its a great machine to sew on. This project turned out great!
Thanks Kerri!
Such a cool thing! Really like how it all came together.
Thanks!
Cool project! Thumbed up when I heard you describe the work was commissioned. I love those old treadle sewing machines but the customer is always right! I hope they liked it as much as I did. Thanks for the cool vid!
They really loved it! Thanks for watching!
This looks absolutely gorgeous. Well done, sir.
Thank you!
Great idea. The volume level is much better to.
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
A nifty re-purposing of those drawers and I've always had a fascination with apothecary items so it certainly gets my approval. Retaining the the ironwork was a great choice and the resulting piece was filled with charcter. I've been really impressed with the variety of things you've generated from the original object so far and you seem to have hinted there's at least one more domestic item to eagerly anticpate as yet... :)
Thanks! I made a storage chest out of the lower shroud/housing that the sewing machine tilts down into. No video for that one though :(
Man you Do some really awesome repurpose projects with adding instructions for the little tricks of the trade for any of the kinks you had to work out thank you so much Have a Nice Day Brother
Thank you Bryan!
very well designed!
Thank you Tim.
Well done. Looks sharp.
Thank you!
Funny when you see video in fast motion that you notice imperfections that you wouldn't while building. I need fast motion replay when I build. Fantastic as always, thanks for making this.
Thank YOU for watching!
That's terrific man! Love it!
Thank you!
Man... that turned out awesome. I like your narration also. Good going!👍🏼
Thanks! I'm still working on finding a style I like. It's good to hear that my narration turned out okay. I've done some without, which do you prefer?
Interesting question. You have a pretty good voice and are clear about what you are saying. I think it's up to your audience. Can you tell a difference in your analytics? Guys like Jimmy do both, depending on the audience (or who's paying for it). I think some sponsors prefer the more "how-to" narrated stuff.
A super surprise. A masterpiece with many thoughts and thoughts💪💪💪
Thank you!
Justin I sure do envy you. You are so creative. Thumbs up !
Squirrel!!!! Thanks!
What a great piece. Really cool! Great repurpose!
Thanks!
That's awesome, nice work... shame you couldn't get the top to be a single piece of wood 🤓👍
Yeah, but at least there was 4 corners to work with. Thanks!
I'm a little surprised you didn't plane or sand a little off the top after you joined the four corners, and refinish the top, to make the seams less noticeable. Or did you want to preserve as much of the original finish as possible?
I agree. but the client requested that I keep the original finish.
should have made the top 4 pieces into a tiled pattern so it looked like the top was cut into quarters for a reason or atlas to make it look less like it was just popped together
If there would have been enough original material, one could have cut the corners to triangles and place a rhomb (diamond) in the middle. It's done often to mask fragmented pieces.
Nevertheless I like your work.
Американыч!!!! Ну ты фантазер!!!!!!! Супер!!!!
Спасибо
Great job! I loved how it turned out.
Thanks!
It's a very good mod... I love the cabinet...
Thank you!
Turned out great.
Thank you!
I love this , I have nearly the same table before the change. I couldnt live with the top though in 4 pieces? But if it's what the customer wants you have to go with it, well do e, great job.
Yeah, I could have placed a veneer on the top. But the customer is always right. Thanks for watching!
Great idea. Very unique
Thank you!

Man, I really like what you're doing over on your channel!
You too! Subbed!
Nice build. Whats your secret to welding cast iron or is it cast to cast does't stick (mig) but perhaps mild steel to cast does ok for light duty?
No secret. I just try to make a big enough weld to handle the forces that will be applied. In this case not much force. There are plenty of cases where I try to avoid welding cast though.
Well done...congratulations !!!
Thanks!
AMAZING WORK!
Thanks!

Thanks, Phil!
Very cute, Love it!

beautiful -
Thanks!
Buen trabajo, felicitaciones!!!!
Gracias!
Sweet build! Was the client happy with it? Did you consider refinishing the top to hide those glue seams more? Not saying you should have... it just crossed my mind, but I don't know what I would have done because you'd obviously lose the original patina if you refinish.
They loved it. We did talk about the seams on the top but they were happy with the look and the original finish.
Gooood job!
Thaaaanks!
Very cool project, nice job :-)
Thanks!
This is excellent.
Thank you!
show , perfeito ,maguinifico , esplendido .
Obrigado!
New subscriber! Great work sir, Thankyou
Thank you!
Awesome job! Definitely keeps the character of the old treadle table. Did you treat the cut lines on the top at all to hide them?
Yes, I think used some old english scratch cover. Thanks!
A brass inlay in the table top would have masked the joins nicely...
Good idea!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Superb !
Mokudjinn You're the only one who doesn't have a comment from the upploader haha
Thanks Mokujin!

A nice idea but I'm not keen on that big ugly joint in the middle of the top .Why didn't you scrape it and hide the joint?
It was a choice. Thanks for watching!
Great!
Thanks!
👍👍👍👍👍
;)
cool
Thanks.
HI! HELLO! Just subscribed how do I get a sticker or magnet.
Thanks for the sub! I'm out right now. I'll message you when I get more stickers.
Thanks just finished your videos. Can't wait for the next.
Nice work, though given I restore machines like this, I was crying inside the whole time.. That said, at least you didn't do anything daft and hack up an old American, Howe, Weed or the like.
Thanks for understanding. I've had some pretty angry comments.
Shame you couldn't make the wood look nicer. Thanks though.
Meh, at least it's from the original machine cabinet.
i am always amazed at how someone can destroy something and be proud of it
Me too....
