  • This cabinet has 30 drawers that are each 11" wide. The top 3 rows are 3" tall whereas the fourth and fifth rows are 7" and 8.25" tall, respectively. The material is mahogany with a red mahogany stain to darken the material a bit. The finish is wipe on poly with a coat of paste wax.

    The drum sander is the one tool people (including me!) always push forward but it really increases productivity (a friend has one I can use). But here is the catch: having a second one, with another set of grit is even better!

    Ever think of using that drum sander to adjust the height of the completed drawer instead of the hand plane? At least for the 6" high and under ones.

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  6 лет назад

      Yup, I thought about it for the short ones. The drum sander only goes up to 4" so I figured I would just use the block plane for everything.

      parillaworks I’ve been looking at the new grizzly with the spiral cutter head but I just found that Cutech makes an 8” benchtop jointer with a segmented cutterhead for $500! I think I’ll get that. :)

    • @doublebulbing
      @doublebulbing 6 лет назад

      +Ian Enderby not telling you what to do but as a owner of a real 8" jointer with spiral byrd head I would tell you to save you 500 buck and looks for a used 6" jointer for about $175 to 250 you will be much better off if you have the space for it. The 6" normally run on 120 if power is a issue cause most full size 8" battleships run on 240 unless you find a older one that could be wired for 120 but I would not spend that much on a table top unit. I bought my 6" for 175 sold it 3 years later 300 and put that money to my 8"

    Beautiful work. One question: why use shellack and wipe-on poly both? It seems like one or the other would make a good finish on their own.

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  5 лет назад +1

      Hi. I used the shellac because those surfaces didn't need as much protection and it dries quicker. The rest of the piece needed more protection so I used the poly for those parts.
