Ah, that was just the push I needed: I‘ve had a pharmacy chest sitting in the shed waiting for a restoration for over a year. As seven of the drawers are missing, I have been trying to find aged wood to reproduce the drawer fronts and not really working on the chest. After watching your video I‘ve been at it happily for the last few hours - thank you for the inspiration and the motivation
I was thinking exactly the same. It so often doesn't work when people try to imitate something with age, it just comes off as tacky. It's really only when you create a contrast of new and old in quality that it works because it respects the past.
Beautiful work. I am in awe of your shop. So much open space with under floor ductwork. Very well laid out work areas. My "shop" is an overly stuffed 9x18 foot garage. This video made me subscribe. No talking, no music... just excellent craftsmanship in action.
Absolutely stunning example of up-cycling. Your finest piece to date. This is how old items should be incorporated into the new. Well done Ishitani-san.
I love watching these RUclips videos Saturday morning as I sit at my bench drinking my first coffee, getting ready. This is stunningly beautiful, the craftsmanship, the design idea, and the quality of the video. No unnecessary load music, or commentary. I have a project for a drawer till for my bench and I gotta few construction ideas from this posting. Thank you.
Some, take lunch breaks, some take a nap break. I take Ishitani breaks... your videos are like asmr. I'm watching your videos two times. The first one, carefully watching and admiring the craftsmanship and the second, just listening the process. Thank you.
Fantastic work. I'm always amazed at how many folk think that some tool or other does the work. Tools don't make the work - the woodworker does - and in this case, Natsuki really knows what he's doing. As always, it's a real pleasure to watch you working, especially in what must rank as one of the all time best woodwork shops ever!
the reverence you display toward that project is truly touching. Bringing back to life a tremendous original piece turning it into functional furniture.
Been away for a while. Infrastructure repairs it seems, they always get in the way of art. But then, it’s not really about me, is it. Your videos are as good as they get. And I’m switching back to Ishitani so I can catch up. Relaxing, intelligent, peaceful, self explanatory projects -artfully produced. Thank you
Beautiful! To see all of these old drawers established in a new cabinet is like seeing a very old, interesting, and complex person reborn in a new body. Organized mysteries invite curious minds. Thank you.
If you carefully watch Ishitani videos you automatically become a better woodworker even if you don't touch wood from months. This videos are perfectly edited and you can guess where those pieces goes and why he made them that way. Plywood for the internal shelves where you cant (or its not the best solution) do a frame with solid wood, recessed low guides to hold the drawers, lock the front grid and save extra wood and extra weight and so on. Every video it's a condensed lesson of several tecniques. Thanks for sharing.
The construction of the case was just mesmorizing! Like Tom D 's comments, I too was so very pleased to see you honored the hard work and craftsmanship of the first woodworkers. It brought a smile to my face!
Watching these videos with only the sounds of the shop and a little soothing music is so relaxing. The video is as much of an art as the craftsmanship in the project.
Always in awe of the near-absolute precision of Japanese craftsmen and artisans, but also a little freaked out by it. I'm glad that this level of dedication exists in the world, and equally glad that I'm far more forgiving in my own work.
I found this video a little slow going at first, after watching so many sped up woodworking/maker vids (diresta etc!)...but the tranquility became both relaxing and refreshing. Thank you : )
In my mind its awesome to see Ishitani do "his thing" with the wood :) But the editing and cutting are awesome aswell, love to see him plaining the surface as concentrated as thinking about the right measurements. The slow and peaceful music is on point and all the Videos are Masterpieces just like they are :)
Beautiful work as always. I smile when one of your videos is published because I know we are in for a treat. And I love the way you kept the original drawers - inspired.
What a beautiful combination of the older piece and your remaking of the cabinet for all of those drawers. Your woodcraft and artistry are amazing!! I’m really enjoying your RUclips videos:)
Wonderful job as always! The sensebility for beauty is amazing. Poetry that words can't express find its way directly to our hearts. Thank you for the three of you!❤
I am always amazed at what I can learn from watching skilled people. The chamfering of the tenons together (8:21) is really subtle and practiced. He uses the plane bottom to line up the the tenons square so that he can do both edges at once. I'm adding it to my book of skills to work on.
I love the marriage of old and new. One of my favourite pieces of yours, absolutely beautiful
The man just knows how to work smart. Confident in his process. So impressive.
I so agree!!

So did you finish it?
Such an elegant blend of new & old. Like visual poetry.
Givulinovich Best comment ever😀👍

The power of contrast as a poetic device.
Thank you! For add your peacefulness, precision, and simplicity to a world that so desperately needs it.

This is perfect.
X Hypno I guess I win then?
Your videos are always so peaceful I can watch hours of your woodworking

I love the look of the old drawers in the new Chest .!
I can't tell you the amount of satisfaction I felt when he placed all of those drawers in the shelves at the end.

素晴らしいです。とても素敵な薬箪笥です。

The fabric of time has been mended...another beautiful creation.
Natsuki è un vero artista....è bellissimo vederlo lavorare..
Un abbraccio dall'Italia 😉
This one of the most beautiful things I've seen this year.
Beautiful. The old and new seamlessly came together.
the reverence you display toward that project is truly touching. Bringing back to life a tremendous original piece turning it into functional furniture.
Patience, attention to detail, perfection. Amazing craftsmanship. Thank you for your contribution to beauty in the craft.
Once a documentary ended with a phrase written on a wall, saying "I am / I can". You always look like you're beyond that! Thanks once more.
Nice new cabinet. I love the marriage of the old and new. I do have to admit though that cutting those small miters made me wince.
One of the things I like about your channel is that you show the selection of your lumber from the rough state to the dressed.
Again Quality Inspector Shiro holds the perfect position : no report to write !
Thank you so much for sharing.

Absolutely stunning. Its so satisfying watching all those old drawers slide into their nice new homes.
A lot of work went into that. I love the old drawers contrasting the new cabinet chest. Beautiful.
私はあなたの完璧な職人技の一部を新旧の友人とお茶を飲みながら共有できる時を夢見ています。 森を称える素晴らしい作品を作ってくれてありがとう。

Whenever I see those tiny little bevels on every surface I immediately remember why I love Ishitani.

Beautiful workmanship as always. The original drawers in the new carcass are just perfect.
Unbelievable. Thank you for keeping this kind of talent and artistry alive.
Love the way the old drawers slide smoothly into the new spaces; what a great piece of work.

Beautifully filmed and edited, great carpentry craftsmanship
I appreciate so much that you let the work speak for itself.

So peaceful watching your work. Beautiful results as always. Thankyou.
Another beautiful piece of yours. I loved the blend of the old drawers and the new chest.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Like always on your channel
家具職人、素晴らしい仕事です
木の美しさや質感が動画でも伝わってきて、切るところから組み立てるところまでワクワクしながら拝見できました。いつか自分もこういう仕事がしたいです。

What a beautiful way to reuse the old drawers. A wonderful piece!!
Chie has a rare talent as a videomaker. Perfect choices of images and sound. So nice to watch.
The amount of masterfully crafted joints is inspiring.
What an astonishing piece, I could easily spend hours standing in front and observing it.
This turned out lovely. Thankfully you weren't tasked with building all new drawers. So much work.
It's so wonderful you payhomage to the the old with the new, love your work.
Another excellent job, Mr. Ishitani. Congratulations.
Beautiful, impeccable, stunning work. But like I always say, the shop puppy is the best part.
One of your most satisfying projects to watch. So many drawers.. mesmerising. Thank you
Fine craftsmanship right here. Thank you.
Absolutely stunning! The old drawers really bring out how gorgeous the piece is as a whole. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us!

Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
I look forward to your work. When I saw this one put on RUclips this morning I planned to watch it at night. I'm so glad I did. You are a genius.
Most excellent craftsmanship on such a difficult project.
In my mind its awesome to see Ishitani do "his thing" with the wood :)

It’s a testament to the original builder that the drawers are still square and straight to be reused.
