If the frame rails are actually rusted through, this truck has more rust and corrosion issues than just the frame.
The correct way to fix a bad/rusted frame is a complete replacement of the frame rails... front to rear. Also, the new frame rails can be ordered thicker/heavier than the originals. That will also require some longer fasteners and new brackets but when it’s done, it’s done and done correctly.
However, the individual doing it better have a functioning brain. The rear is the easy part; from just behind the cab through to the engine bay... is a job!
    Only for detail-minded people!

I have a 2016. I unload rust inhibitor and high gloss black spray paint onto my frame and springs. 10 years from now rust won't be an issue. I hope.

I wonder if it would be better to just cut that back end off completely and installed a u rusted rear section.

Rate here is a man that has it figured out . That's some incentive and a true perk ...." asking a driver what kind of rig you want drive" . Good Lord where were guys like this back when I drove ? I swear I didn't think they existed . I spent more money on other people's trucks through the years before I finally got it . Hats off to this man and all the respect I can offer for truly appreciating his workers and with all that I'm leaving him a " YOU GOT A COPY THERE ...C'MAH"! Or if he's a seasoned bull hauler I'll leave a " TAHFOW C'MOW !

Wouldn’t it be better to just get a new frame? Wouldn’t this effect the structural integrity?

When backing I have found that a stretch can get in better . Imagine backing in off a one lane street into a driveway , u can over jack and push the trailer in farther than with a shorter frame . In my experience.

Much respect. I have reconditioned many trucks in my time.. but when the frame is that bad it's time replace the truck. Been down that road 30+ times.. W9 T800 Pete 359 Pete 379 and Freightliner Classic's and many Mack refurbished units... I even doubled them up with T1 custom bent steel. But in the end in the rust belt ..not worth the time spent..

That boat anchor was the Lightning series trans. This replaced the super 10 and had the same shift pattern. It was produced for less than three years, most were replaced by Eaton under warranty with a FRO 10, or 13 speed. Useless info, just thought I would share.

Should mention the only illegal weld is a welded on accessory. Frame repair are referred back to manufacturers, guess how they fix them...that's right like he is and cut offs

Looking at that frame and looking at one with the 5th wheel on it I knew the frame had to be like that , Over here in the Northwest a lot of used truck buyers get these trucks From the East Side to resell and you should see the frames on them , If you took the 5th where off like he did They are going to be problems in the frame for sure , But these dudes by these trucks left and right , Myself I know what to look for , a lot of dudes do not and over here the DOT inspection they definitely look hard in that area where he is working

325" ain't bad . If someone is ever making comments about how long and how many back and forths it takes you to get in or out of somewhere you simply reply " wouldn't matter if it took you all day to get it ,you'll always " look" better doing it ! As soon as they start to talk rudely interrupt them and say you need to get to the strip joint and walk away !

You may wanna teach “The New Guy” how to use a seatbelt on the fork lift, I’m sure somewhere buried in your policy, the insurance company requires it!
I’m not trying to be a dick but I’m 56 and I’ve seen way too many 18-22 year olds crushed cause nobody told them to use the seatbelt so please just do it and start his career off on the right foot

  • @commandomkz6451

Sorry for saying this , but that is a piece of shit repair. If you care for your drivers, you should've change the frame rails front to back. New factory frame rails run about $4000 per rail made with the same Vin number of your truck, you would have spend about 16K, not cheap, but someone life is worth more.
