WORST FRAME STRETCH DOUBLE FRAME EVER DONE! PUT THE TOOLS DOWN AND WALK AWAY!

- THIS IS THE TRUCK THAT I REFUSED TO WORK ON. IT BELONGS TO A FRIEND OF MINE. HE TOOK IT TO A GUY TO HAVE THE FRAME EXTENDED, AN OUTER "DOUBLE" FRAME ADDED, A LIFT AXLE ADDED AND A 4000 GALLON TANKER INSTALLED. IT TOOK 7 MONTHS TO COMPLETE AND WHAT THE OWNER CALLS A "MOUNTAIN OF MONEY". IT WAS BROUGHT TO ME TO DO THE WIRING AND LIGHTS. NO IDEA WHY THE OTHER GUY COULDNT RUN THE LIGHTS.....UNTIL I SAW THE TRUCK. I NEED TO REMOVE THE LIFT AXLE FROM THIS TRUCK TO MODIFY AND USE ON THE TRUCK I AM BUILDING.
That blows my mind. 7 months to pretty much destroy a truck. It's scary that the guy that did the job thought that was a perfectly acceptable way to do that stretch and be safe and roadworthy. Just....WOW!!!!
Looks spot on like when a truck owner wants something done, but doesn't wanna pay for it. One the other hand it also has all the hallmarks of an owner who doesn't pay his employees right, so he doesn't have anyone around who genuinely takes pride in their work.
Dually - Noted
I'm glad you talked to him not having that truck not on the road
Only seen one frame worse. They tried to mate steel and aluminum frame😮. Nice to see someone with intelligent. Thank you
Here in UK we would report that awful work to Trading Standards as well as the vehicle inspectors.
Here in the UK that would fail the first MOT / VOSA check hard.
I am Canadian. I would not touch this. If this was to get into an accident, even if the modification did not contribute to the accident, I would lose my license. God forbid anyone getting killed.
It amazes me that someone who has the facility, tools, and knowledge to do this kind of work would do that level of butchery. I feel sorry for the guy that paid for it. That truck would be unsafe for an off road farm truck.
should...he works as a fleet mechanic at a large corporation. has his own shop and has worked on trucks for others.
Here is an excellent example for the requirement of annual ministry testing, operator license and six weekly inspections.
Here in the Uk if that truck was stopped on a public road it would be impounded and the owner prosecuted.
Hackery at its finest you're always going to find that one guy who would do with the cheapest just to make a buck. This is exactly the product you get when you do it the cheapest you can find!!!!!!!!
Looks more like a tweekers quality of work, half-assed and dangerous to the public!!!!
This is adequate for one thing, a segment on "Just Rolled In" hee on YT. The same expertise input went into this as many so-called other shop's jobs proclaimed by he customer.
Back in the day when we double framed we pulled all the crossmembers out slid new c channell inside the frame channell drilled all new holes with a frame drill reinstalled crossmembers
Ive never been a big fan of dot or regulations very much but then you see what people are capable of
It would be nice to assume everyone would just do things good and proper as i would require done
But far too many people are negligent and/or ignorant
Maybe your vids can help some of the ignorant as to the negligent i guess we need regulations and enforcement
that is why regulations started. protecting people from people. somewhere along the lines it turned into revenue as well.
I do a lot of frame work and seeing that hack job made my skin crawl. Whoever did that should be jailed.
The original single frame was stronger then it is now. Never mind the fact it took 7 months to destroy that truck. WOW!!!!
That truck is a lawyers dream
This is a perfect example of what is wrong with trucking industry today, everyone wants it cheaper. Don't worry about quality or knowledge. Sad thing is the people who know how to do this kind of work are becoming fewer and fewer every day.
Omg the more I watch the more I crunch 😂😂😂😂😂
I haven’t seen work that bad in a lonnnnggg time. WOW I mean just WOW!!! Whoever did that needs to give his tools away and get a job at Walmart or somewhere else before he gets somebody killed.
I would love to hear from the guy who did that frame work. Somehow i think he would talk very confidantly that only he knows how to do that and everyone else is dumb
I'm sure that having rectangular cuts in the second frame, and then having bolt holes that close to the corners won't cause any stress cracks...
THAT redefines 'cob-job'. That truck will get red tagged in its first roadside inspection
Looks like he let cousin Bubba loose with his 110 volt flux core Harbor Freight welder.
Accident waiting to happen. You should contact the DOT
The double frame ends at the highest moment of the frame lol. Looks like somebody wasted a lot of time on that job. Stretching trucks is no joke. I way over build them when I do them.
That chassis should have had a flitch plate ie an inner chassis plate fitted on the inside and the cross braces shortened to accommodate that 👍🔨
Total Disaster!😮 He needs to buy another truck and part that one out....!
Looks like it would take another 7 months to undo all damage that guy did.
Wrong. Give me an hour or two with the torch, about 2 minutes in the hammer mill, another hour or so to melt it down in the plasma furnace, and it’ll be new steel Peterbilt can use to slap together a new truck in a day or two. Granted it won’t look the same and all the plastic, wood and rubber will need replaced but we can make it new again in less than 1 month.
I don't understand how you can even save that thing at this point, short of just completely starting over. Wow. Those welds really bothered me...and that's the least of it of course.
The frame is scrapmetal, most welds are just tacked to the steel has not been welded together.
Good call, I wouldn’t work on it either
I think I saw that truck for sale near me. Ad read
Daily driver or will sell for parts
What in the Tweekerville Concoction is going on there, 8 months to get to that point was a dead giveaway as to its origin.
that is a real wtf moment what was he thinking
I may very well be wrong but hear me out: If I wold cut a C frame to overlay a C frame, I would put the L part on the bottom, because then it will help the bottom that is in tension instead of the top that should be in compression.
i hear what your saying but people far smarter than me that build these trucks figured the top was the place to put it. many truck manufacturers do it this way and have for many years.
@@j.c.smithprojects There must be a reason, thank you for your reply!
The bottom is a ledge to hold water and mud and lead to rust out...
I'm not a welder nor a mechanic
Just a truck driver.
That one frame crack would put this thing out of Service.
On top of everything else
Hope the Owner SUED THE IDIOT. out of business.
Did D.O.T. never inspect this truck? I drive a 550 Ford 18k GVW and D.O.T. looks at me a few times a year.
Small businesses with low budgets do this all the time. From the tires to the marker lights everything is rigged as a regular temporary permanent fix.
What a way to destroy a truck. Not to mention 'welding' on the hangers, (I use the word welding loosely) and burnt holes. Only thing that chassis is good for now is scrap.
Hopefully the next time the owner decides to do things right. Late model cut off and start over. Too bad jc isn’t closer to California where they get rid off rust free trucks because they change emissions rules
What a nightmare. The human lives at stake when something of that tonnage rolls down the road is far too high for someone to make such modifications with such poor understanding of how a chassis gets its strength and what makes them weak.
They ruined that truck. There are so many issues they created, I wouldn't touch it either. Call a wrecker, haul it off😂
Omg that thing belongs in the scrap yard
Call that welding ?
The guy that did that got fired but thankfully he landed a new job at the butcher shop.😏
wow just wow .. 7 mounths?
If it was done properly it should have been converted to a tri-drive but the only solution is try to find a good clean frame and swap everything over I guess
By condemning that truck you saved the bus full of nuns and orphans that it would have smashed into when the back end catastrophically removed itself.
I seen something similar probably not quite as bad he took a tractor and stretched it to a truck a lot of weight on the front end parking lot speed bump front end collapsed thank goodness
I thought I was the only one who used the "busload of nuns and orphans? phrase.
@@scottcurry479 I only mention children, nuns are just useless added weight.
@@scottcurry479 You know why you their Orphans ?
The Priests couldn’t marry the Nuns !
Those mounts for securing a load aren't sturdy at all, reminds me of a story of a pair of wrecking balls that destroyed an entire town. The wrecking balls weren't secured properly and fell off and ended up flying down the side of the mountain the guy was driving up. He was on the highway so the wrecking balls started with a shot ton of momentum.
Oh my gosh how could anyone ever honestly think this type of workmanship is acceptable, simply amazing. Have a great day J.C. & thank you for your time to show us.
This is 100% regular performance of multiple trades. It cannot be overstated that MOST people will knowingly do the wrong thing just for a paycheck. Working as a wrench spinner, this type of work was a normal thing to see roll into the shop. Working in construction, most people would be scared to see what is behind their walls. Working in the food and service industry, LOL.
Most people, fair to say 90% will perform this type of work, if not worse.
i have bought and continue to buy a fair amount of trucks and i almost never see work this bad. might be normal or common in in your area but not mine..
@@j.c.smithprojects I 100% agree w/ you, I never before seen such a poor build, that's what I was trying to comment previously.
J C Smith
Just wondering if there is a possible way to educate the person that did this terrible work on that truck?? If that fellow was willing to learn how to do a much better job and do it the right way it should be done? My thinking is Education is the key. Not suing him, and or reporting him to the DOT. He needs taught how to do this kinda work right. I also know some are not teachable. Thanks for showing the difference between great work, and pointing out all the mistakes that fellow made.
the owner of the truck gave him my number. he called me. i explained everything i thought was done wrong, poorly or inadequate. his response was " i just did what the owner wanted". if one was willing to learn, he probably would have asked "how should it have been done?"
I am a retired truck mechanic and I seen some real bad work over the years but I can't say I ever seen work this bad on a truck frame. I worked around very professional welders and fabricators and you really had to look close to see a frame stretched.
I thought you made it real clear in the first video the problems this truck has . I got the impression at the start of the current project that when you completed it you were going to cut the frame on this truck and start over. You put out good content . Thank You! Tom
i have no interest in doing this again. i would however start with two NEW frame rails....
@@j.c.smithprojects We have all done something in life that later we say never again. It’s nice to try to help someone out of a bind but once burned we know better. Projects easily take more time and money than we want to spend. You have done enough of this to know how it goes. Have a great day. Tom
That 2x4 is offering about as much extra strength as that extra frame laid on top with a bolt here there and yonder. I remember when you showed this the first time, but it looks even worse with the tank removed! I really love the large c notches above the axle mounts...
remember when we talked about that target of hours in the truck i am building.....well, as you are well aware we have gone past that and almost doubled it as of today. to think, the money wasted on this truck could have went into the one im doing.
@@j.c.smithprojects yes indeed, or purchased a truck already long enough and double framed... I know they are almost impossible to find, but the twin axle lumber trucks lumber yards use to deliver building materials on are usually 24or 25ft beds and double framed, some even have a tag axle already, most have the smaller engine though. That's what my friend was able to find to build his poultry litter truck out of... Worked out well and saved a lot of Time, money, and headache...
i had several trucks that were a much better fit but he insisted on using this one. he already owned this one and thought it was a cheaper route. not so much now!
@@j.c.smithprojects 👍
That thing is scrap. Wow hard to believe somebody thought that was good work!
Really surprised there is very little salvageable parts
This might be one of the worst hack jobs I’ve ever seen documented. I can’t believe people think doing work like that is anywhere near acceptable.
I can’t believe it took him 7 months to make a truck worst than what it started at. I would think this was a time crunch build lol
I hope your audience appreciates the work you do. Compared to this fly by night hack of a fabricator.
A classic case of "I can do it cheaper". This is beyond horrific and absolutely terrifying. How in the hell did the owner not look at this truck at all? Even worse, he did look at this and thought it was OK.
I'm tired of doing it cheaper ,im getting too old for that crap and have time to do it once.
Because most people don't know good work from bad, have seen this for years
Wow what was that guy thinking , should never even thought of doing that kind of work . I’d be scared to see that truck hauling any kind of weight
Meth
That's just downright scary! 😨
7 months and thousands of dollars to build a rolling death trap .
I worked at a Dana heavy truck plant frame line for a couple of weeks during a layoff from my regular position.
And that line we worked one of the line jobs was adding frame doublers to the standard frames for special purpose trucks. All those doublers were installed inside the existing frame rail and through bolted.
That truck was a pure hack job.
That is the standard way of doing it. This however is the chosen path of the lazy.
Great video J.C.Smith you made a valid point on you first video on this excuse for a frame strengthening attempt that went horrible wrong. Thanks for sharing your truck build is going to work for what this guy needed and then some. Looking forward to your next video stay safe J.C.Smith.
7 months?! I was gonna say it was done in a week lol
I've done them in a week... they sure didn't look like that though. What a mess.
I thought I'd seen crap workmanship before, but that one takes the prize. It is horrible is every possible way. I've seen work done by farmers that I thought were never going to be safe to drive bag across a field but wow, I don't know what to even say about that truck. You're correct in saying it's only value is for a few parts and scrap metal.
You did the right thing convincing your friend not to use this and kudos to him for doing so after spending his money on this junk. The standard of workmanship is appalling. I thought this the first time I saw this truck on your channel. What are viewers of your channel thinking to gripe about this with your work standard/ethics???
But, But. I can spend $150 on a airbag save $2300 on the correct bracket and get this out the door. Money, Money, Money - Safety is overrated!!!
Those guys in Pakistan build far better frames than what this has and I'm not a mechanic.
Oh i enjoyed it alright ! 😂
Glad to see this parked for good !
next video of this truck will be "salvaging what is good".....it will be a very short video!
And I thought I was a bad welder. This makes my flux core welds look mint.
You said 7 months build I honestly figured it was a couple guys that was under the crunch to put something out and this is what happened. There’s no pride, thought or any sort of planning on this unit. So glad and thankful that you convinced the owner with your honesty and knowledge that this is a 60k death trap sled when it was going to be used! I am constantly learning from your videos thanks!
That job is how lawyers get rich, too damn much liability involved to perform work such as that, also I have a 2009 Pete in the shop with a frame crack in exactly the same place as that truck, I wouldn’t of worked on it either some jobs you cannot afford to do.
Whoa that truck should be used for part's, and never be allowed on the road!!!
What a chop job 😢
Blessings from the foothills of Mt Rainer 🤜💥🤛
The DOT would’ve had a field day with that truck 😢
that's no joke for sure ,, I bet they'd call a bulldozer to crush it
And for once they would actually have a reason to write some citations and put it out of service.
Thank You for showing us this truck up close JC :)
Have seen better work done by high school students in a auto shop program .
That looks like the work of someone without any clue of what they are doing.
I have to admit this is the worst frame extension job I have seen in my life time. Just sad that the previous guy ruined a actually good truck with a very sketchy hack job.
It's Absolutely TERRIFYING that the person who did this "work" and the Owner of the Truck We're Fine with it & Were Actually Comfortable Putting this *Death Trap* on the Road!!
I Really HOPE YOU REALIZE that YOU
LITERALLY *SAVED INNOCENT LIVES*
by Being an Honest Moral Ethical Person & Voicing Your Concerns to the Owner!!
Nasty nasty truck :o It shows how good Pakistani Truck is at this work. Bare frame rebuild with new double-frame inserts all riveted and drilled.
What kinda Mickey Mouse backwoods bledshisheart bullshit is going on there.....
A pusher axle used as a tag‽ Dafuq
What a pile of rusty junk. Trucks like that end up as farm dump trailers around here, just cut the front end off and remove the brakes and make up a tongue to haul it with a tractor. Those are some of the worst welds I've seen since the first day of high school welding class.
i don't know how it takes 7 months of working on a truck to arguably make it worse than it was before you even set eyes on it. glad you were able to convince him to take that truck off the road.
Just a complete waste in every regard. All that time and money and you’re left with a scabbed-on pile of steel and bad welds that do nothing.
He's got a great farm truck for hauling hay bales from his field to his barn. Not a truck for an OTR tanker.
I'm wondering how the fabricobbler ever thought that would pass a safety inspection?
Not only did you save your friends business, you probably saved his life.
I had to stop watching video because it hurts my eyes. Nothing legal about this hack job. Good news is, it can be saved and made right. Cut the original frame rail just behind rear cab mounts at 45° and discard the entire back clip. Get a good donor back clip from junk yard or just get brand new rails and do it right with the front to rear liner installed inside the factory rails from the front spring hangers all the way back to end of frame rails like it's supposed to be. There are a lot of good reputable frame shops out there to do this right whose business names do not begin with Earl Scheib, "home of the $1995 frame stretchers and paint shop".
They need to go watch Pakistani truck to see how to build a double frame...
I've seen a lot of terrible work by guys that "doubled" the frame. They never carry the load up to the front spring hangers. In engineering terms it's called "abrupt change in section at an area of high moment" and it's a big no no. That being said, I think this truck is one of the worst I've seen
"Yeah I know a guy that can do it cheaper!" 😂
You absolutely made the right call J.C. and i said it when you showed all that BUTCHERY in the first video when the body was "attached." LOL 😂 I know it's both frustrating and downright painful to see hack jobs like this, but you are honestly hilarious when you go around the truck showing all that garbage 😆 Again, good call J.C. and i enjoyed the video 👍
I work in the trucking industry in Australia 🇦🇺 and this sort of crap 💩 would land you in jail !
Even Pakistani Truck do it properly and that's saying something!
Not much to say about the other stuff. I know that the welds look like the Tin Man came over and crapped all over it.
The Pakistani truck repair guys do much better work while dressed in sandals.
What a disaster
That needs parted out
How could someone afford to straighten that mess out
The person that started this project knows just enough to be dangerous
Good luck with it
Looks like someone didn't have a clue. I wouldn't drive it to a demolition derby.
Pakistani truck would have done it better. In the dirt. With a hammer and chisel.
Dude must have been welding with his eyes closed. Sheesh😂
I'm an hobbyist welder with maybe a dozen hours of burning MIG wire and I could have done better welds then those. :D
G'day JC,,
Another great vid , This unit sure is a death trap .
The owner should have refused to pay for ,or accept that standard of work .
Whoever did that wprk should be inspected and banned form undertaking work of this kind .
Respect ...!
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that double frame addition is absolute garbage.
Leaving bolt holes open is worse than skipping bolts - hidden corrosion.
I would not even touch it. That is a law suit waiting to happen. As soon as you work on it, you take some of the responsibility. I would want it off my property immediately and give notice that it is unfit to drive…
I'd go 1 step farther , i would tell the owner it is not to leave my property unless being towed by a suitable wrecker or on a trailer
@@wildcoyote34watch it again....notice the wrecker.
How does a truck this poorly put together pass a yearly state inspection ? Better yet how does it get through a D.O.T inspection ? I have an inspection license….I would never pass a truck like this . The more you went around this truck the more I shook my head . The analogy skilled labor isn’t cheap…cheap labor isn’t skilled applies here in capital letters and multiple exclamation points .
remember the first video of this was when it was brought to me to do the wiring and lights. it never made it to the registration / inspection phase.
Pfft, those 2x4's are what's going to hold the whole thing together, duh!
