Thanks for watching! I love Spokane but it does have some things wrong with it. I hope you appreciate this honest take on the city. Let me know the things you don't like about Spokane & something you love about it below.

Spokane has that old city charm like a German city; or like an old city on the Northeast coast.

You are absolutely spot on about the lack of job opportunities in Spokane!
I don’t think that there’s going to be any meaningful job opportunities in Spokane ever!
There might be some minor economic development; and job opportunities but I really don’t expect to much economic; and jobs growth that would make a big positive impact!
You mentioned crime; there’s a lot of that in Pacific Northwest cities because of the lack economic opportunities; and job opportunities!
The thieves are having a wonderful time committing crime to support themselves.
You mentioned that there are those electric motor scooters in the city; having those “cheap” vehicles in Spokane doesn’t make any sense to me that also includes the city that I’m currently living in (Louisville, Kentucky).

I've lived here since the early 80;s. and traffic lights are terrible here! City needs to synchronize them (have signed many petitions over the years) but don't/won't (I think they prefer you ride the bus). You can also be ticketed for warming up your car and not being in it (winter mornings can be tough, I've seen days below 0) as well as being a target for car thieves. Spokane isn't Portland or Seattle yet, but we did have a curfew implemented awhile back. I love the area, but try to avoid down town personally.

How does Smoke Season not get a mention? At the tail end of summer when the wildfires start we end up with a ton of smoke. Some years aren't so bad, but some years you'll go for days without seeing the sun because the sky is just so thick with smoke.

Worst things about Spokane: Drivers who don’t understand the use of a turn signal; driver’s who slam on their brakes in the middle of a busy street in high traffic to let someone out of a parking lot like Target and not caring that they just held up 40 or more cars behind them and that it is illegal; the fact that as long as I’ve lived here (since Mt. St. Helen’s erupted) they’ve talked about a North/south Freeway and while it is underway and they do have a very small portion semi-completed it is still horrible to try to drive north or south without encountering heavy traffic. The other issue which correlates to the homeless population is the fact that rents and housing prices are disproportionately higher than a working wage here even though WA has a newer, higher minimum wage. Even with this it’s difficult to find decent rent prices here. However all cities have their unique problems and Spokane has theirs but it is a beautiful city with lots to do, lots of outdoor and recreational activities fairly close and a lot of people who grew up and stayed in Spokane.

From what I understand housing on base is actually quite limited. I work with a lot of people stationed at Fairchild who live off base. It is. It's a great source of depression in Spokane. People are very unhappy there. I got out in 2018 after 22 years stuck in that hell hole. There really is no good reason to move there. High crime, lots of bums, not many good paying jobs, the housing market has boomed since the minimum wage increase making it very hard for poor people to afford rent, the roads are awful and there are a ton of drugs (meth) addicts there. There is very little faith in the overworked law enforcement coming to the rescue either. In January 2017 cost of living exploded, adding a good 30-40% more on rents and housing prices. In short a friend of mine in 2017, bought a $120k house for $205k and I thought she was out of her mind, until she sold it for $289k in spring 2020 it was a 4 bedroom very plane and basic house facing a run down low income housing project with their trash blowing up against her fence. There are many other states where you can still find reasonable costs of living. Tennessee, Michigan, and many other states still have very reasonable housing costs. This is a very liberal state and as they keep raising minimum wage, adding huge regulations and taxes, the imbalance of wages vs cost of living will only worsen I am afraid. It's the California mini me.

@That Brat Zola it is that bad. I left in 2016 and moved to Texas. No jobs, Meth problems and the explosion in cost of living plus the liberal californication of Washington state made me loathe Spokane. Best thing my wife and I ever did was leave. I have the best job I have ever had and actually now have the money and savings to finally buy a house. I lived in Spokane for 19 years btw.

I’m very nostalgic of many things from family and friends to just the ‘home feeling’ - plus I’m over Nor Cal it’s absurd! But I’m second guessing starting fresh somewhere else I don’t know again just to end up in the same position. illness.
Wiki Otto zehm please. The police Cheif Meidal was involved and not disciplined like 12 of the 13 other cops. I think it is most sad of what Spokane used to be. Kaiser aluminum? Talk to the old people. Senetor Bobby Kennedy once visited Spokane community College in 1966.
