He is an interesting guy. As far as I know he had a severe stutter as a child and had some emotional/social problems as a result. He started to learn piano in his early teens and found he could "scat sing" as it hid his stutter somewhat and helped him to improve his confidence. I am certain he gave a bit of hope to young fans who suffered from stuttering. RIP.
@@abdulmh2401 He means that in Europe we had this thing called "Eurodance" and back in the 90s the scene was all about 2Unlimited, Alexia, Corona, Culture Beat, Eiffel 65, Gala, Sensity World... groups that usually nobody in the US knew about but stayed as numbers 1 in every music chart across al europe. After that, the pop-dance era arrived and music became more global, i.e. Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, etc
Scat is a singing technique that is used in jazz music. He decided to sing scat because he had a pretty severe stutter and was very self concious about it so with scat, he was able to hide his stutter, hence also the name Scatman.
This is a story about a man not recognized in the United States, but he instilled in us a love of jazz through European dance. Appreciate such people. I wish you all peace
This man couldn't even speak and still made multiple top hits. John also played piano really well and also spended lots of his free time with kids who also stutter.Big respect for that
John Larkin produced this song when he was 54years old. Prior, he was a chronic alcoholic, to reduce his stuttering. He was unmercifully bullied because of his stuttering, and he turned to drugs and alcohol.
Scatman John spent the majority of his life playing Piano and coping with his horrible Stutter Problem. Eventually he figured out he could turn his weakness into a strength, and produced very few works (comparatively speaking) by scating. His works ABSOLUTELY LIT EUROPE ON FIRE, and eventually became a classic although, like most artists, long after he passed from this world. His story and message are inspiring to untold amounts of people.
A game I play from time to time when I need a pick me up is watching reactions to this song and seeing how long it takes people to finally crack. Everyone ends up dancing, Scatman John is still undefeated.
Awesome song, but every time I hear it, I immediately see the "spider and dancing scene" of Tim Robbins in the film "Nothing to Lose" (With Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence)
My step dad used to stutter like crazy. He had to wear a belt around his chest so his breathing patterns could reduce his stuttering. It`s crazy because now the stutter is almost completely gone. Sometimes he gets stuck on a word but after learning breathing techniques and re wiring his brain he basically does not stutter anymore.
oH YOU GOT IT!! check out sctmans world... John was a kid who stuttered so bad he couldnt talk... and then he met Louis armstrong... >.> darlings .. you want to know this story...

Yeah, it was a great catchy tune with a great message of hope for people, a pity cancer would take him in Dec of 1999. If you want something a bit weird to react to, I Wannabe A Hippy by Technohead, is a funny ol' blast: ruclips.net/video/QMkIHLJkirE/видео.html

Absolute classic from the 90s. This was brutally successful in Europe and its still a classic.
Eurodance is the best thing that happened to music in Europe
Strangely, it got most success in Japan!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
90s classic. Sigh. Time needs to slow down. Good tune,by the way.

I tend to stutter every now and then, this song helped me realize that Stuttering is not to be laughed at, but to be used to teach others
