Back in 1995, Europe went FERAL for this one. It hit #1 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Spain and Switzerland and top 3 in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. It also reached #60 on the Hot 100.
This song was MASSIVE in 1995! I was obsessed with it. Here in the UK it was a top 3 single. The story behind it is so compelling as John Larkin (Scatman) had actually spent his entire life battling a strong speech impediment. He used struggle with stuttering which affected his every day life, but when he sang, he didn't stutter. He came in to success late in life when a European producer teamed up with him to produce this song. It was so big, they produced a few more songs but they didn't hit the same heady heights that this single did. He ended up passing away in December 1999 due to his battle with cancer, literally 4 years after this single. In that time he managed to do some tours and would often talk about his stutter, and would openly support others with the same impediment. The song has gone on to find a lot of love 30 years later on social media, and recently was even remixed by the fun one hit wonder Lou Bega (of 'Mambo Number 5' fame) with a song called Scatman & Hatman. Look it up.
8:34 well... close. Finland - Helsinki Estonia - Tallinn Latvia - Riga A link between Finland and Tallinn is that you can take the Tallink ferry between Helsinki and Tallinn. And Estonia and Latvia borders each other, so you were in the right part of the world and of Europe but all mixed up. Also your pronunciation of Riga and Tallinn... ^^
Still love this song after so many years. This was popular at our pub/club here for dancing in the 90’s and everyone would get up for it. Brilliant song!!
this song was just so much fun when it came out. it rocked the Hits for Kids albums, but I think nobody could avoid smiling when this went on the radio. its just a simple song, about doing something and having fun even if you are not the best at it.
This is ridiculous. First video I saw was Freestyler, which you didn't know. Now you also never heard Scatman? They say that the US lives in its own bubble, but especially before the internet was as big as it is now, you really did... Next you're telling me you don't know Barbie Girl, Blue and L'amour Toujours... 😂
Weekly Top 5, Do a Random 2000's week 2! 5. Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned 4. Stacie Orrico - I'm Not Missing You 3. Cassie - Me & U 2. Get Low - Lil Jon and The East Side Boyz (feat. Yin Yang Twins) 1. David Guetta - Memories (ft. Kid Cudi)

N1 in France 😊
He literally had a stutter, which is what the song is about. That if he can talk that fast in the song, what can we all accomplish if we try?
Rip Scatman John 😢❤

I miss my 1994 MTV European Top 20 back then ❤❤❤
Did well in the US as well. I loved it back in the day.
Ohhhhhhhh I use to love this song so much
For some reason this is the most depressing song I ever heard. It triggers the most overwhelming nostalgia blues.
Had that perfect party eurosound at the right time 😂. Blew up in europe

maybe my first favourite pop song in my childhood.
This movie was played in the Martin Lawrence and TIm Robbins movie, Nothing to Lose
You better brush up on your capitals there lol - all wrong lol
Nice reaction guys 👌
You should react to more 90's eurodance music, or just do 90's Eurodance top 100
I think the hairline was making you think he was older 😂He actually did become a meme that caused a resurgence of this song.

Tallinn is in Estonia, and Riga i Latvia
Scatman's World is also great
I will always think of BASEketball when I hear this song lol
Such a nostalgic bop. ❤
Riga is in Latvia not Estonia. And Tallinn is in Estonia not Finland.
Love it! Also, you guys should react to "Tension" by Kylie Minogue and both "Demons" and "Paint the Town Red" by Doja Cat.
Loved this song back in the 90's, however, being called a Scatman in the 2020's is a whole different scenario....
NOOOOO YOU SILLY AMERICANS, TALLINN IS THE CAPITOL OF ESTONIA, HELSINKI IS THE CAPITOL OF FINLAND!!!!
Also, Riga is NOT in Estonia but the capital of Latvia
Hello there cuties and merry christmas from the philippines, please react to Tenacious D - Tribute
Tallinn is pronounced Tal + in, not een
