- Here is a quick look at 2 different way to make and highlights bushes in the wet on wet painting method. I prefer the round for highlighting but you may prefer to do "push up" bushes. Either way, I hope you make some really happy bushes and trees after watching this video! Happy painting my friends!
Best tutorial ive seen on bushes, Bram. Now I wanna rip my paints out again, and I just finished cleaning up. 😂
I appreciate that Chris.
Thanks for showing. I have always liked watching Bob Ross.use to watch him on tv and they quit showing his programs, I hate that they done that.wish they would bring them back on,,😊
You did a good job showing the brushes and strokes and those things. Very clear video, thanks Bram!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've struggled horribly with bushes and trees. Thank you so much for this tutorial. It has helped me leeps and bounds.
After watching this I actually managed to create some amazing bushes and got the highlights to stick! Really felt like my first breakthrough. Can't thank you enough and look forward to more tutorials!
Thanks great! Glad the video was helpful. Happy painting!
amazing tutorial! this is exactly the info i needed to get headed in the right direction with my highlights. thank you!
Wow, am I glad I found your channel. These tips look great, and I can't wait to practice them. Thanks!
I've been having trouble with bushes for awhile now. I'll do another painting soon to give this a try. Thanks so much for this tutorial!
Please continue with the different technique videos--they are so helpful! Full tutorials are great, but it's so helpful to have more detailed information
Will do so long as folks keep watching and sharing the videos
Beautiful. Thank you for showing us.
This is so helpful. I am trying to follow bob Ross with acrylics. I am so thankful for this video this is so perfect and your bushes look amazing
So wonderfully articulated Bram this has helped me so much, thanks 👍
Thank you so very much,i have never seen anyone on these videos demostrate painting bushes with so much understanding. And so perfectly demonstrated,a thousand thanks 🙏 too you sir.
Going to practice bushes this week. Great video.. elaine 🎨
Absolutely fascinating video and fantastic info - thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I can't wait to give a try with your suggestions and tips...Thanks Bram
i tried following a BR winter scene. After laying down 1) liquid white everywhere 2) sky and water 3)background trees 4) evergreen background 5) evergreen highlights I had 5 layers of paint and a mess where these layers overlap. I never understood why Bob would paint so many layers just to cover them up. Ive only painted 11 paintings in my life so, yea Im still "wet" behind the ears (pun intended) I did the BR class in FL in Jan. I watch channels like yours and others who paint more real and less wet on wet. So I find myself mixing styles.
Thanks Bram another great painting on how to do. This time on bushes
Thanks so much Bram. Just started painting and it’s tough to find videos so detailed on brush techniques, really super appreciate it! Most are using the standard 1" and I had picked up both round brushes and I think they look much better so I’m so happy you helped.
Glad this video is helpful!
Definitely liking the right way ones better. Much more realistic. 👏👏👏
Thanks for this Bram! Very helpful!! Happy painting!
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful!
wonderful thank you! helped us a lot please keep these lessons coming
Thank you! Will do so long as folks like, share, and subscribe.
Excellent video. I have been struggling with bushes as I’m new at this. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
Aaahhh thank you so much for this! I think I like the half round better also. I agree that they look more realistic. This was so good! 💚
Glad it was helpful Julie! Hope you are well!
Thank you! This is very helpful to watch. I've been trying to get these right for a long time and just have never quite made it. Please keep creating these short "tutorial" videos, they're a big help! :)
Glad I could help! Make sure to subscribe, like, and share and I will keep on making these
Best example of the use of the 1" landscape and round brush bush creation ... thank you
Wow, thank you!
New to painting and your channel .
Thank you for the detailed instructions that are so helpful !
You are so welcome!
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video. Thank you. I finally understand it now. And I agree the round brush looks better. I've tried the 1" and they end up looking like blobs. I'm going to order a round brush and keep practicing because they look so realistic! You are a great teacher
Thank you for taking the time to change the angle of the camera to show the technique better. I seem to get my bushes about 80% of the way I want them. The round definitely getting the look I am trying to create. For sure I tend to dab the canvas too many times as well. I have been working to get the detail paint consistency a little better as well. I will be painting today and will try out my round brush.
Very helpful!!! Thank you Bram!!!
My pleasure!
Wow. I've got to get the round brush. It looks better to me, and easier. Thanks, and I hope you do more of these focused instructional videos.
More to come!
Awesome explanation. Bob made it look super easy but once u learn the consistency of paint you need for it to stick it becomes easier. All in practice. Very good video
Hello BRAM ,you are my favourite Tutor ,I am very new to painting and you have helped me so much ,I have purchased the round brush you used on the bushes and I can't wait to try it out ,I was definitely a mud mixer blobs more than foliage ,😆 thank you so much for all your help ,keep up your excellent work .
You are very welcome
This is fantastic! I am a total noob and this is so helpful for me to understand technique. I def prefer the bushes on the right based on this class, but I think both can be used as a bush variant. Totally gained a subscriber! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Welcome!
This was very informative and useful. I've definitely subbed to your channel. Thank you!
Thank you! Hope I can continue to be helpful.
Hey, thank you so much for this video. I've been struggling with this for the longest! I think I struggle with maintaining a shape with the highlights like the highlights are placed in the wrong areas where it doesn't look like a bush.
Hopefully this will help. Another thing that may help you is to scratch in some sticks in the dark. Use those sticks as a guide to know where to place your highlights.
This video is so helpful! I think I really understood what I do wrong (I struggle more with the shapes than with the "effects"). Thank you very much, I wish you a big success you are a great teacher.
You're so welcome!
Fantastic
soooooo....you're the one who taught Bobby...nicely done Happy...very well done.
LOL
Your videos are getting better and better! Although they've always been great and super helpful 😁
Wow, thanks for the great compliment. I am trying to make them better each time.
One of the most informative videos I have seen to date. You should continue making these (sort of self serving)
I will keep making them as long as folks keep watching them. Please like, subscribe, and share!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been struggling with my trees and bushes for a while now, basically wacking more and more paint on til I wind up with a muddy mess. I need to learn a little restraint I suppose 🙂
Awesome vid bram. sometimes I have trouble with bushes but ever since I picked up a new bob ross 1 inch brush I've bean doing better. I think you have a good future with RUclips 😀 keep up the great work!
Thanks buddy!
Very helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Just a simple explanation to how to use and get the best out of these brushes! The best teaching I have listened to- must add with all due regards and respect to the Levent Bob Ross a more clearer explanation! Thanks Bram
Could you please help us how to make cabins or houses pleaseeeee! Thanks
Very informative video!
Glad you think so!
Thanks for sharing, I think I like the first example better with the little bit of white showing
So good,I made a real mess of my bushes!!
Very simple a d clear instructions Bram! Thanks! This video has a little more clarity in your voice.
So helpful
Thank you for the excellent demo on making bushes using those two brushes. I can paint clouds all day. Mountains - no problem. But bushes have been vexing me for some time now and I think using the round brush, instead of the 1 inch brush, is going to really help me figure these things out. My bushes have always looked like yellowish Dolly Madison Snowballs - my technique is not good, I'm (apparently) using the wrong brush, and I ALWAYS end up picking up the black paint and turning my bright bushes into sad, disappointing looking blobs. I haven't viewed your other videos, but another thing I am in eternal combat with is layering the terrain so that I get beautiful, undulating hills and river banks that are believable and attractive. Can you make a tutorial that breaks down how to paint crisp, fresh looking hills that don't look like Texas in August (like mine do)?
Ty! I hate my bushes. Going to paint tonight!
Thanks Bram! you’re a great teacher, I love painting with you; … and so sorry about the whole “amazon fiasco”…Laura & Nick
Very helpful!,
So glad!
good teaching
Great video! Very clear. When adding highlights what do you do when the green stays on the brush (is it because the yellow is too thick?) do you fully clean the brush? Many thanks
Would love to see in fall colours too
Grazieee! 👍
Also possible with acrylics, - glycerine sprayed upon for slowed drying, transparent modeling paste as foundation layer. Still one needs to be fast - like Bob Ross!
Love this thank you so much can you do another one on evergreens 🌲 please 😊
Already on the channel. A couple of videos just on evergreens
Thank you 💖
Probably don’t read comments from old video but this was brilliant video very helpful if you haven’t already would it be possible to do the same with clouds??? When I fluff the cloud I get streaks of white lines
Thor? Always good to hear from the God of thunder. Yes, I need to do a clouds videos. Good idea!
Thank you so much Bram. This is so helpful. Can’t wait to try this on my next BR painting. Also, I wonder since you’re right-handed, would setting up the camera from the left side be easier to view your brush stroke? Changing that angle at the end was also a good idea.
I am still toying with all sorts of things that will be tweaked moving forward.
@@paintwithbram Keep up the good work!! I look forward to your tutorials. Painting cloud is another tough one for me. I paint w acrylic so all BR method of blending cloud is tough to do
I enjoy your videos, but will you please convince Steve to start making shows as well?
hey bram. i still have so much trouble on my cedar/pine trees. would love so tips on them too
Will do!
Thanks for the video. I use acrylics, and use Bob Ross’ technique with acrylic. If that makes sense.
Thanks for looking!
Also please explain how to do evergreens ! I tried but make a mess ! Thanks
Hello, can I use the same technique with acrylics? thank you
It should start bright on top and get darker, darker as you move down
Hi, thank you very much for the tutorial.
Where do you buy your brushes because all i can find in the net is brushes made in Germany and they are not same as the orginal Bob Ross's brushes? I think that your new 1 inch brush in the video is made in Germany too.
I had heard the same about the new brushes, but they’ve worked well for me thus far with no issues. Just my take on them :)
@@andymccune1788thank you.
My older brushes were made by weber and you can't buy those any longer. The newer ones are just fine.
@@paintwithbramwell for me its less working, the 1 inch brush looks more like the Bill Alexander's, and the foliage brushes is not roundy anymore. For me the 1 inch brush is out of use, the orginal had a good shape at the upper hair, now its flat, i can't paint grass with it anymore.
I called Bob Ross company yesturday and they confirmed that the new brushes are made in Germany. I think they did a bad choice producing the new brushes in Germany, i saw a lot people complaining about the new line at Amazon.
Some examples read the reviews of the buyers:

Bram I am a brand new painter. I am using very small canvases, (4x4) Can you recommend a small brush type & size that can mimic the brush you are using? My plan is to move to larger canvases once I become a better painter. Thank you,
Everything just ends up blending for me even when i thin it and when i lightly tap it. Also when i lightly tap it, the texture doesnt come up
I need this tutorial, done for Krita (painting software).
what kinda brush is that?
Please tell me the brush name?
Thanks,
As you're making the bushes, is this technique called scumbling or scrumbling?
What tool do you use to make your sticks and twigs? You don't show it or mention the name of it in the video.
Just a palette knife
@@paintwithbram Thank you!
I just purchased a half round. It is not what I expected. I thought it would be a flat circle shape at the end...,, could you show us yours next time maybe? Thanks for the tips!
I actually show it in the video.
Never mind lol you did. Mine doesn’t seem to look right
@@paintwithbram yes I just realized that 🤷🏻♀️😊
@@Steph8208 I responded to your facebook comment with a picture of mine.
@@paintwithbram thanks!
What did you use for the twigs?
Nothing just scrape them in with the palette knife.
Well of course! Brain fade.
What other brush can I use for bushes I will not buy anything of Bob Ross stuff after they did what they did to Steve.
Buy some of my brushes
For someone that charges $150 a day for a 3 day class you would think I would at least be able to see how you put the paint on the canvas. Your hand is in front of it. The camera angle is covering it
Uh, this video is free and many, many people have said it helped them tremendously. It's also evident you didn't watch the entire video as the camera position changes. But, If you want to pay $150 for a class, I will take it.
I wish I could hear you better.
Am I the only one who couldn't see the technique because his hand was blocking the brush movements? 🤷🏻♀️
you really need to reposition the camera to get your hand out of the way
You should have stuck around a bit longer
We only see your hand : (
You didn't watch long enough then.
you hand covers all you are doing, better record in a angle
Watch a bit longer and it doesn't.
Please stop talking so much and just paint.
Please.
Thanks for the suggestion but NO
