    Thank you for putting this together! Does it matter how the Quest 2 enters VR in the game? I’ve tried just running the game on my desktop then doing alt-tab to enter VR, I’ve also launched the game through AirLink/VirtualDesktop and then entered VR in the MSFS menus. Right now I’m testing slightly decreased graphics settings values in-game (since you’re running a 3090), but I still haven’t been able to get the frame rate smooth, still lots of jitters unless I move my head very slowly. I’m running a similarly powered CPU to yours and a 3070, I feel like there’s got to be some combination of settings that would allow this rig to run it decently!

    Thanks for this great video!! Big improvement! Just started to follow your page! I’m using Oculus Mirror + OBS to stream in fb or recording. I’m having stuttering issues every time I start using mouse to navigate or click instruments inside cockpit. The only way I get it to work is hitting the “window” button in my keyboard and clicking outside the msfs window, but as soon that I click back to msfs, mirror starts to stuttering. I’ve searched everywhere but with no success. The stuttering is just in the oculus mirror because while flying everything is smooth inside the VR. I have Q2 using a i-9 with a 3090.

    Hi I must be doing something wrong!
    Brand New Pc 3080rtx, i7 12700kf. 32Gig Ram
    Getting confused with openxr/ Runtime? Really don't understand this despite loads of googling
    In the oculus app it says "Oculus is set as the active Openxr runtime." Is this correct?
    Developer settings in Openxr toolkit say Motion Reprojection Disabled
    In OpenXR developer Tools it says "The windows Mixed Reality OpenXR Runtime is installed but is not the active OpenXR runtime" Again is this correct?
    Now in the oculus app if I have Rendering Resolution at 1x in 80 or 90- Hz everything runs really smooth although I would not say they graphics are "great" bit shimmery/pixilated, but in msfs a lot of settings are on Ultra . If I take it over 1x in the oculus app start getting jerky stutters out of the side windows, but it does look better. However I prefer smoothness
    I have to run the oculus debug tool Toggle windows visibility. Tray tool also running 1.3 ss, ASW off FOV 0.7 x0.7
    Where am I going wrong with upping the render resolution in the oculus app causing stutters? I am happy with the smoothness just want to improve the look, and really really confused with all this openxr stuff is this right that oculus controls this as above?
    I tried the OpenXR toolkit, but could not manage to change any settings in that, the menu would only stay on screen for about 8 seconds and then disappear.
    Your videos are great but a really simple guide for old ones like me would be fantastic. Ie setting up from scratch. I seem to spend 90% of time changing settings and not enjoying it.
    Using Link Cable
    Thanks very much for any help you can give

    I had a G2 and didn’t like the eye focus issues, it was buggy (working some days and not others). Even the headset is not as comfortable as the Q2 aftermarket Halos. Bought a Q2 and absolutely love it. Half the price of a G2 even with the Halo headset.
    And as I’m still running a 1080TI, I find I can up the graphics setting so my visuals are better. I’ve been running at 120htz as I’m only flying slow GA (C150/172) so MSFS can keep up. I assume however that flying jets like the Hawk requires MSFS to load graphics much faster and thus the need to lower the htz setting in your video?
    The biggest thing I found moving from a G2 to a Q2 is that not having to be tied to a computer, I now use VR far more than I ever did with the G2. I truely thought I only wanted to use VR for flight simming. How wrong I was. Everything from watching movies to playing Onward in my backyard where I move around physically rather than just moving the controller. And the headset is now available for others in the family. Simming is now just a small part of the VR world. The G2 is stuck to a boat anchor that limits the true VR experience.

    Best VR flight in terms of quality & smoothness since I upgraded my RTX 3060 to a 3080 TI! I see no FR (frame rate) difference between 90% or 100% in the Open XR Toolkit, and have the middle/outer set to 1/4. 40 FPS around my local Melbourne AU landscape with Photogrammetry OFF as I continue to suffer from severe 'candle wax' scenery below 2,000ft 😞
    Only other difference maybe I recently enabled RBAR (Resizable BAR), including using the Nvidia profiling tool to ensure flightsimulator.exe was using the potential memory enhancements.

    question, are you running the oculus tool kit and the open xr tool kit at the same time?

    • @VRFlightSimGuy
      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 года назад

      That's affirmative, however you don't need the open XR toolkit running in the background. Just enabled it and access it through the in-sim menu whilst in VR.

    how should I enable openxr and not oculus? when I set it as default runtime from openxr dev tool, msfs says no headset detected when trying to change to VR. Should I install WMR or what?

    hey uh does open xr work for blade and sorcery?

  • @RavenSimulations
    @RavenSimulations 2 года назад

    Hey my dude... so I've been working on settings for my system. The OpenXR thing is interesting, but it gives me maybe around 2fps (if that)... not seeing a big jump using it. Is this for steamVR? I run everything on oculus native software (if I can) Just curious about this program since I've never used it before.

      I will say I am back to using OTT... ;)

    • @RavenSimulations
      @RavenSimulations 2 года назад

      after more experimenting, its not really giving me more frames, but does make it smoother... and the capture smoother.... so OpenXR seems to be good in that respect.

    • @VRFlightSimGuy
      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 года назад +1

      Hey Raven, yes the toolkit only works with Open XR, have you messed around with the fixed fov rendering? It's a pretty nice increase in performance together with the NIS scaler. The OTT is great though, especially as you can save your settings. The only thing I so notice is you have to keep resetting the ASW mode once in VR, otherwise it can be a bit of a stutter fest.

      Np. Your 1070 is working very hard with the Quest 2, you'd be better off with a Reverb G2 with a native DP.

    Ok so you are saying keep supersampling like close to 1.0? AND ASW???

    • @VRFlightSimGuy
      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 года назад +1

      I rarely recommend super sampling, it's hurts your GPU sooo much unless you have the headroom. ASW locked at 30hz is really great so long as you can reach that target. For you, that would equate to 27fps as the Rift also runs at 80hz. (If my maths is correct)
