    Great video which for the first time explains what the settings affect, which makes it much easier to identify the changes and determine the settings that suits your personal preference.
    When you have some ‘spare’ time 😀 a similar explanatory video for the Nvidia and OpenXR settings would be great 😊

    Great video, I appreciate your constant updates on graphical settings. It helps to sooth the headaches caused by constantly tinkering with settings like a lot of us tend to do. I can’t stress enough how imperative it is to edit the usercfg file, setting the sharpening value to 0 is such a great way to get rid of that annoying shimmer. I actually have my trees set to high since I do a lot of low flying and trees stand out the most to me. Other than that, my settings are identical to yours and the performance is excellent, using an RTX 3080, R9 5900x and the G2. I bounce around between using motion reprojection, it’s nice to have sometimes but I agree that the artifacts it creates can be quite distracting. Also, fixed foveated rendering in the openxr toolkit is a must, I was able to eliminate all stutter by adjusting this to my liking. Anyways, thanks again and I’m looking forward to more content from you in the future!

    Cheers for this Chris. Not sure if you saw last week's Q&A with the team but Sebastian explained how the tree setting works in conjunction with the terrain LOD to determine the tree horizon limit. Pushing to high and ultra will push the trees our further and further so I'd recommend at least high if you can run it to stop the green, barren hill look in the distance. He didn't say whether or not this works the same with buildings and bushes, but common sense would assume that it does, and if you have a higher setting then buildings and bushes will show further.
    He showed a pretty good video demonstrating it, and in the next sim update we will be able to get trees to display in pink so that we can compare the differences playing around in the settings.

    • @stephansiebertz1870
      @stephansiebertz1870 2 года назад +1

      I also understood that the trees and buildings settings not only regulate the details of them but also the distance in which they are drawn. My tests today also shows that.
      Lod set to 160. With buildings set to medium flying low, you mostly see buildings as boxes and their windows and fronts appear very late. With them set to high all is very fine and no building with missing windows are seen.
      Understood that asobo associates the long awaited draw distance slider now with the tree-settings (so they don't need to add an additional slider item).
      The tree setting "... medium, high, ..." not only regulate the detail of trees but also the draw distance. That's different in comparison to pre SU8, right?

    • @kevinbrook7033
      @kevinbrook7033 2 года назад

      @@stephansiebertz1870 That's interesting, I'm too lazy to actually spend time testing settings myself but I've always assumed that lowering settings lowers the LOD thresholds rather than overall details, buildings seem to look the same on medium/high/ultra once your next to them, its when your 2000 feet up and a few thousand feet away the difference in details really shows.

    Hey buddy, thanks so much for the video. I went ahead and reset my settings and only set important things to me at ultra or high and keeping render at 100. It made a huge difference with my 3080ti especially with the AI realtraffic, 787 mod at KLAX with heavy rain, very low visibility which is what it’s currently here in Southern California. Those low thin clouds always hit performance so it’s currently a bit stuttery but it’ll always be until Asobo takes care of it. But on the way to KLAX it was much very smooth over dense areas and overcast clouds. Oh and it looks really good sharp and clear!

    Thanks very much for once again staying on top of evolving VR updates as well as doing the drudgery of comparison testing and optimization for us - much appreciated! Your setup is so close to mine (except that I have an i9-9900K to go with my Reverb G2 and 3080) that I can just duplicate and enter your settings, making it even easier. The aircraft you chose to feature is very intriguing, not least because flying with dogs would be just that much closer to heaven, no matter the actual MSL altitude.

    Hey super info! Since my specs are close to yours, this works great. Only dif is I have an i7 8700k doing 4.8.
    Question: did you mention in one of your vids that you use SteamDeck? I’m thinking about getting the 15 button one. Might be useful in vr, especially when the yaw2 arrives. Creator is finally ready to ship. You really need to get a 3DOF. I had a different make for six months and the immersion is upped tenfold. If you’re in an open cockpit, using a fan blowing at ya practically blows ya away 😆 Cheers M8!

    Excellent video which has helped me a lot! Thank you very much!
    Just a question: what is the difference between the render resolution in the sim settings and the render resolution in openXR toolkit?
    I currently have 70 in sim and 100 in OpenXR toolkit. Is this good for performance or would it be better 100 in sim and 70 in open XR toolkit?

    Thanks so much for your videos. I really appreciate the details you give not only one WHAT you set but also WHY. One question: I notice that many of your videos are made using the G2 rather than the Aero. Is that because a) The G2 is more common, so more people benefit from the video, b) The G2's mirror is better for recording, c) You get better performance in the G2, or d) You prefer the G2 for your own use (and, if so, why?), so you use it for your videos. I had started with a Rift S, have since upgraded to a G2, and am currently sitting on an order for the Aero. I'm always curious to hear more opinions from those who have both the G2 and the Aero (or are waiting for the next great thing, whatever that might be).

    Hi there, much appreciate all your efforts. However, my understanding is that are so many parameters which you can change both in game and in the VR headset I am on a hiding to nothing. I have spent dozens of hours watching all of your latest videos again and again and adjusting my settings trying to achieve a good VR experience. Sometimes things are improved, but other times my performance and stutter is a lot worse. Would it be possible for you to produce a definitive list of settings for each of the more popular hardware configurations? Also, a prioritised list of all of the parameters would be useful. I am so frustrated that I would be happy to pay say £50 for someone to help me remotely set up my oculus quest 2 and my GeForce RTX 2060 on PC with 32gb memory and full fibre 300mb+ internet. Other option would be to buy identical hardware to you so I hopefully could save a lot of time just copying your set up in your videos.

    • @SpaceJockey805
      @SpaceJockey805 2 года назад +1

      Are you using the link cable, virtual desktop or airlink? The cable will give you better performance but more compression, while the other two can produce a better image while introducing performance issues if your internet bandwidth is being disrupted. I used to use the Quest 2, but ended up getting the Reverb G2 since it has far less compression when linked to the PC (wireless doesn’t matter much in a sit-down sim anyway). I also upgraded to a 3080 since my former 2070 just wasn’t up to task. This may be the same for you unfortunately. Also, adjusting the fixed foveated rendering in the openxr toolkit can be a game changer depending on your setup. I have mine set to 85% outer, and 70% inner. You may want to experiment with that if you haven’t already.
