An Engine of Many Colors could've easily been written for Rosie. Rosie is offered to be repainted and she asks opinions from others of what color should she choose. Then all the imagination sequence happens then finally she settles for red because she sees how Victor works hard in the Steam Works and she wants to be useful like him.
@aessseoseo That’s been the basis of my Rosie origin story. Only in it, Rosie came to Sodor in her red livery, as it was the livery of the Northern Wisconsin Railroad Co, and wanted to have a new coat of paint, but she couldn’t make up her mind at first. She didn’t want to copy anybody else’s colour, mostly for fear of mistaken identity between the tank engines (as her red livery made people mistake her for Arthur) and eventually found a colour to make her stand out a great deal better; lavender for the flowers that helped her to sleep after her stressful times in Knapford Yards and silver for the moon on her last night in Wisconsin. A story like that was worthy of Mattel itself…
I just think that red is just the primary colour of Vicarstown (The station being red, Norman and Rosie both being red, and the red express coaches being there)
What if Rosie had been originally loaned from a preserved railway, but did so well on Sodor that she was eventually purchased. In her most recent overhaul, she would also be given a choice of new paint to go with her new number. Like Victor, she chose red to represent her new life as an official Sodor engine.
I prefer if she was just rewarded for her dedicated hard work. Not everyone is the star of the show, and some engines will just work at their jobs with no fuss. A really useful engine, if you will. And when you have someone that works like that, of course they are going to choose a smart but responsible livery.
With the amount of engines on Sodor, the Fat Controller has probably had a new redesign for her livery on the list. Rebecca arrived with the NWR livery right away so he's probably decided to trial the new design on Rosie first. For all we know, Rebecca might have been an engine the Fat Controller had his eyes on for ages.
My headcanon is that James had actually been boasting about being the fastest red engine on Sodor for a while now, so when Rosie got repainted (as a reward for her hard work), she WAS going to be painted in pink again, but she deliberately decided to go with red just to spite James.
Personally I like to think that it was part of an evil plot created by Victor, to get every engine on Sodor painted in a corporate red livery, much like his own so he could rule over the railway. Rosie went to get repainted and Victor successfully convinced her to get repainted into red.
This would make Victor and James polar opposites, Victor feeling red is an amazing color thinks any engine would look good in red (he’d love being on the Skarloey Railway in the RWS canon) while James hates the idea of there being more red engines as he feels they’d make him seem less special
I think the Rosie to the Rescue theory is the best one because it would happen double plus in the same movie we first saw it in, the James and the Dementia theory in The Fastest Red Engine on Sodor. OK well let's suppose Journey Beyond Sodor is before Season 21 just like production, and look at how James and Rosie are positioned when James goes to find his trucks only to find Thomas took them. They're both in the same compass direction, so there's a likelihood James would've not thought to look to the left albeit carefully, so that's why it comes as a surprise of her new repaint in The Fastest Red Engine on Sodor, and finally Rosie could've very well been awarded the paintjob for repeating Thomas' homage back in Thomas and the Breakdown Train, and while STH thought Thomas was mature enough to handle a full time line, he thought Rosie was mature enough to have a more serious appearance like her class usually were. Rosie's rescue could've had a significant impact on Henry's heart strings hence in the canon of the show he moved to Vicarstown to be with Rosie as he found her worthy of being a motherly figure despite clearly being younger altogether and she accepted it.
Admittedly, I've been more bias on lavender Rosie. While the idea of that old color being for girls marketing with toys feels pretty evident, the bios calling her 'a bit of a tomboy' kinda deterred me from that. And rather, I was sort of bummed that out of the few purplish characters, Rosie was the only girl of them while the rest were male tanks (i ultimately made my own OC with a Y10). And the show already had at least 6 girls in yellow by then (Isobella, Molly, Flora, Carly, Rebecca, Darcy...) I do give props to the irl proportioned render of her in that Dennis and Marklin saga. Your TGR side story reminded me of that, and a Great Northern fic where she was trialed for passenger experience before completing a line she'd work on. Annie & Clarabel consoled her and upon one passenger went into labor and was gotten to an ambulance, she named her new daughter after Rosie.
1:00 As a Sonic fan, I can say that Amy is not just a pink sonic. Yes when she was first conceived she was the Minnie to his Mickey, But she has long since become a character in her own right
My guess on why James didn’t remember seeing red Rosie is because he was just too busy looking for his trucks and wasn’t paying attention to anyone else (including Rosie)
Add-on Theory with the TGR: What if the Rosie-Norman fight and Carly-Ceanky fight happened on the same day? Crazy????? I agree with your TGR theory. It makes so much sense and continuity with TGR!
I do like the Great Railway Show theory myself. It would been real nice to have not only a reason to why Rosie was repainted, but also to give Norman a spotlight episode. I think the poor guy deserves some more love like some people in the fandom had done with him.
I'm still salty they never considered using Rosie's redesign as an opportunity to expand on her character and give her some time in the spotlight. It's a shame, I really like her redesign, and considering how much SIF was hyping it up you'd have thought they'd at least have BOTHERED to do something with her! Like how could they not?! It was the perfect opportunity! And they blew it big time! Man, what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall during S21-24's production, it must've been wack
Honestly it's obvious that JBS is after The Fastest Red Engine on Sodor. I never liked how they showed the story after then before as it should but still enjoyed it.
A New Norm could also showcase the Pros and Cons of Steam and Diesel shunters: ○ Rosie takes a while to be steamed, but can accelerate herself at moderately high speeds. ○ Norman is easier to start up and can provide higher haulage power at slower speeds, but his engine trouble could hinder his performance.
One reason they might have repainted her is because she's meant to be a tomboy, and pinkish purple typically isn't a "tomboyish" color - might also explain why they got rid of her blush and lip gloss.
Throughout all the countless times I looked at Rosie when she was pink I didn't think that the pink on her face was blush and lip gloss. I thought it was degree burns and skin temperature or regular emotion blush by how she behaves. :/ I've heard the saying "pink is for girls" though I think with the production of recoloring Rosie the writers wanted to make her into a color that shows that she's now a teenage girl and a grown woman from the past 14 or 16 years she's been on the show and being gone for the past 4 seasons in CGI.
This thought struck me: Maybe James didn’t say anything about Rosie being red in Journey Beyond Sodor because Rosie got her NWR lettering and number 37 while she was still pink offscreen. Then, of course, she got repainted red sometime after that. Of course, this further adds to the theory that James also didn’t notice it because it was dawn and he and Rosie were a few tracks apart.
I think the reason James has his reaction to Rosie being red in the fastest red engine on sodor is because in that scene in journey beyond sodor it was very early and James could’ve been tired from waking up so early to head to vicarstown(sorry if I misspelled that) and also lighting.
Here are my theories as to why Rosie got painted red 1.) She was seen puffing out the yards in Philip to the Rescue and she passed to the broken bridge, however, there was no one to stop her in time, so she had a really nasty accident which messed up her paint, at the Steamworks, they had run out of pink paint so they had to paint her red. Or a really stupid theory 2.) One of my OCs (Manha) was actually made in canon but offscreen, however, due to her extremely 2000% high speed, she crashed into Rosie when she didn't see her then Rosie went flying off the rails then had a really nasty crash.
Seems like lots of engines get red after big mishaps they dealt with that happened with them like James after his wooden brake block incident Victor after falling in the ocean Yong Bao after saving the engine from falling off the cliff and now the ideas of Rosie getting in a crash or rescuing someone to get red, who knows if Arthur had something big happen on The Mainland to get repainted LMS Red since his class was painted black
I think when Rosie is pink, she stands out. In my opinion, I would prefer Rosie to be black, green, or blue like the rest of her class. Most girls like pink, Do you agree with me?
To put some real railroad logic in this, paint is expensive. And most of the NWR engines on Sodor are some type of Blue, Green, Red or Black color. There are a few outliers but the majority fall under these colors. Maybe as a way to standardize the paint for Rosie they chose red, and it was cost effective. Since lavender pink and cream with red trim and wheels is a pretty complicated paint job to apply time and time again for a yard shunter.
I've seen multiple videos and fanfics of how people would imagine how Rosie got repainted red once after the releases of "Journey beyond Sodor" and "The fastest red engine on Sodor" and the Wood and Railway Pals models of Rosie. I do sometimes wish we had more engines that are purple, pink, brown and orange as we have multiple engines that are red, white, black, blue, yellow and green.
Also great points about the timeline. If Journey Beyond Sodor takes place before the Tidmouth Sheds saga, I could say that Rosie was already painted red then and James paid little mind to that fact before Thomas brought it up to him. And that Hasty Hannah took place right on or before Fastest Red Engine
My theory: sodor was sued by the Mattel cooperation over the pink color used for Rosie, along with them trying to make a pink Barbie doll named Rosie. So sodor quickly repainted Rosie so they would be in the clear.
My theory as to why Rosie was repainted is this- she went through her own “Percy the Small Engine” arc. It starts with her being teased for being pink by one of the bigger engines, only for one of them to be forced to do their work while running around with a particularly embarrassing undercoat (a “Henry Sees Red” adaptation, perhaps?). While she was amused by the big engine’s predicament, she left the whole order feeling like she needed something more. The next story in this arc would be about Rosie trying to be more than just another silly little tank engine while forgetting to do her own work. Chaos ensues and she ends up getting in trouble with Topham. Story number 3 is a Thomas and Rosie episode, with Thomas basically recapping TAB in order to inspire her. Her moment to be really useful will come, and she doesn’t need to force it to happen through being reckless. Rosie’s arc wraps up with her proving herself by rescuing a broken-down Thomas and pushing herself to her very limits, to the point where she breaks one of her side rods. Topham is beyond proud of her and offers her a new coat of paint… and that’s where she makes the shift from just a silly little tank engine in pink to Vicarstown’s station pilot in dark red. Cue a medley of Rosie’s HiT era theme and “Really Useful Engine” as she puffs to her new home at Vicarstown Sheds.
That is a great video! I have to go with Theory 5 Rosie's crash. There was a story line I came up with back when Rosie was coming back in 2017. The story goes like this, Rosie has to help with Thomas and Toby at the Quarry, then Rosie has to take a heavy stone train to Brandram Docks and then Rosie reaches Golden's Hill and the trucks push, and she is derailed, and her pink paint is ruined and is damaged and the repairs could take months or a year. She has to go under a major overhaul and then after that she is repainted to red.
@@GuyKnowles At least Hit gave the brand justice unlike Mattel but yeah I wish they kept the show like Seasons 4 to 7 through Season 12 and that the Nitrogen era never happed apart from the specials.
My headcannon for James forgetting Rosie being red in journey beyond sodor is that either A: he didn't get a good look at Rosie. Or B: if he did, he might have just took a glance, and thought her paint was reflecting the sky. I'm going with the latter
These are amazing theories why Rosie got repainted to red and I think I know why Rosie got repainted into red maybe because companies think that red is a better color for Rosie instead of pink
I think Rosie got repainted Red because of her helping out at Norman and Thomas’ Crash and later she has a crash of her own at Vicarstown at first taking over at the yard and later at the steamworks, when she is being repaired Bulgy teases Rosie for being pink and not red and Victor suggests Rosie getting red paint which she agrees and she gets NWR because she gets to work at Vicarstown Yards where a bunch of the mainland engines are.
Because Rosie is red I’m sorry, anyway personally I think it makes sense that it’s symbolic, like a great parallel to James who’s Red is what made him vain and conceited until Rosie now takes away that unique identity of his

I really love it how you came up with the great railway show one I totally agree with that story how she was red but I disagree with her in vicarstown station after watching everyone else come in and sir topham hatt talking to her bucasue James is there he can hear everything so it wouldn't sense if he freaked out in the fastest red engine on sodor
Would one of Ilovetrains323's stories explain why Rosie was repainted red and moved to Vicarstown (although it would later cause a slight continuity riff in Calm Before the Norm)?
This might be a mandela effect, but i recall a yt video around the s21 promo, that was basically the scene in TAB where thomas was painted blue, but wish rosie. 99.99999999999% sure it was fanmade, but thats just a silly statement
I just have one question about Rosie’s Character and your “Rosie to the Rescue theory” If Emily was labeled as “The Safety Engine” then why would they give Rosie a theoretical rescue episode? Along those lines, we know Emily and Henry have a strong friendship, but I am confused with you; how did Rosie and Henry become friends? My small theory is after Henry left the sheds, he felt lonely because of the fact that Emily was no longer around to help him. So maybe after Henry told Rosie about the friendship about him and Emily, Rosie might have felt to bring that similar caring and helpful side that Emily had to help make Henry more comfortable. Speaking of Emily; Rosie’s Carnival Special is the only Rosie and Emily episode, and I think it was a missed opportunity to have another Brener series Female character having interaction with the main female character. Can you make a theory on Rosie’s Carnival Special? I just really need to know why Rosie and Emily were paired up for the episode.
I kinda like the rosie crash theory it's kinda make sense but it will be intersthing if they make an episode about rosie having a crash on camera and then she got repainted and btw adam did you plan to make this video or did you the idea from the comment from the other video
Who on earth says Rosie is pink? She's obviously lavendar (purple) There's been countless purple engines in the franchise: Culdee Fell Engines, Lady, Splatter, Rosie, Charlie, Ryan, Purple Tender Engines, and Kana from AEG. Not so much purples in the TV Series
I always thought her change was because she was due to be added to the steam team for gender diversity. I'd have preferred her (an already established character) over a brand new character. As for an in universe reason, i like like your railway show story alot, and think that red was chosen either because she wanted to match her new friend norman, or because someone (hat or Victor) suggested it as a sign of her new found maturity after she had to stay behind during the railway show. Unlike thomas who got himself into all sorts of trouble pretty much throwing a childish tantrum because he couldn't go. Rosie on the other hand put her all into proving she's really useful at home.
Starting in Series 21 Steam Team line up was Thomas Gordon James Percy Emily Rosie Nia and Rebecca are 8 Steam Team that makes more balanced with 4 boys (Thomas Gordon James and Percy) and 4 girls (Emily Rosie Nia and Rebecca). During the engine roll call Rosie replaces Toby.
I think she was painted red because of a joke from Thomas And Friends Meets. In Thomas And Friends Meets Jacksepticeye Rosie looks at Thomas and says "SENPAI! AAAH!" and Thomas calls her a yandere. Her colour may have been too similar to Yandere Simulator and Mattel didn’t want any comparisons to be drawn.

My theory: sodor was sued by the Mattel cooperation over the pink color used for Rosie, along with them trying to make a pink Barbie doll named Rosie. So sodor quickly repainted Rosie so they would be in the clear.
12:45/12:50 I think there's a fan story that's based on this theory.
We could of got those episodes about Rosie and Norman or perhaps Stanley if the show wasn't so hyper Thomas and Steam Team focused.
And if S21 wasn't cut short
Thanks a lot BWBA!
@@GuyKnowles
Exactly. I wish Seasons 1 & 2 had 28 episodes and Season 3 onward had 30 episodes. BWBA should have never happened.
I wish the Hit Buyout never occurred and the show never changed after Season 7.
@@GuyKnowles
At least Hit gave the brand justice unlike Mattel but yeah I wish they kept the show like Seasons 4 to 7 through Season 12 and that the Nitrogen era never happed apart from the specials.
In my AU, James actually has himself painted pink in protest of Rosie's color change 🤣
These are all great theories and speculations! However, I do have my own take on her livery and how she came to Sodor. “But that’s another story”.
*GERLS!!*
My headcannon for James forgetting Rosie being red in journey beyond sodor is that either
A: he didn't get a good look at Rosie.
Or
B: if he did, he might have just took a glance, and thought her paint was reflecting the sky.
I'm going with the latter
I always thought she was lavender before red.
“Amy is female sonic” blaze the cat: am I a joke to you?
These are amazing theories why Rosie got repainted to red and I think I know why Rosie got repainted into red maybe because companies think that red is a better color for Rosie instead of pink
Are your head canon ideas an actual fan episodes? Looks like a fun watch for both
i got a windex ad right as the first theory came up
real creative theory there guys!
Pink Rosie was who I grew up with. Pink Rosie is superior. James was right in Who's Geoffrey. We have enough red engines on Sodor.
Hear, hear!
Adam: Rosie is one of my favourites
Peter sam: I thought you were my best friend
I think Rosie got repainted Red because of her helping out at Norman and Thomas’ Crash and later she has a crash of her own at Vicarstown at first taking over at the yard and later at the steamworks, when she is being repaired Bulgy teases Rosie for being pink and not red and Victor suggests Rosie getting red paint which she agrees and she gets NWR because she gets to work at Vicarstown Yards where a bunch of the mainland engines are.
Rosie’s cherry red livery kind of gives her a sense of maturity, in my opinion. 🍒
Ya um... one thing with the Bulgy theory, but why would a BUS get painted and converted at the STEAM WORKS? Just sayin'.
People think that one of the cancelled season 21 episodes (The unfriendly elephant) would explain why Rosie is red
Ill tell you why so Mattel could make a quick buck with some new merchandise
Honestly I Am more of a Fan Of Pink Rosie. But rosie Being Red Looks Good too!
Bulgy was already back to red by Season 12.
What episode?
@@skarloey1214 Excellent Emily
@@thebatterymillalbeit just as a cameo.
@@joshuaW5621 Surprising it took that long for Thomas to notice then.
Because Rosie is red
I’m sorry, anyway personally I think it makes sense that it’s symbolic, like a great parallel to James who’s Red is what made him vain and conceited until Rosie now takes away that unique identity of his

The frozen turntable, Norman with Dart friendship episode, and not only so company, for best ideia thinking myself, so Gordon, wins the silly good episode, and so because, the bad season 17, with best intro comes to stephen, douglas, & duke, boco, angry daisy & old donald, non-oliver and toad's episode, back to season five, awesome series romance of thomas and rosie❤sweet & tribute 2024 big miraculous ladybug so-rry chat/cat-noir, nice Jeremy backings too?!.
Meanwhile Harvey and Arthur: 👀
These theories are amazing, and I’ll make an episode for my Thomas series about a few of these theories, if you let me that is.
Would one of Ilovetrains323's stories explain why Rosie was repainted red and moved to Vicarstown (although it would later cause a slight continuity riff in Calm Before the Norm)?
He really became the thomas theorist
I just really need to know why Rosie and Emily were paired up for the episode.
yayyy rosie
They probably just noticed that modern media dresses female villains in pink.
I like to think she crashed at some point and was repainted after she was repaired
I kinda like the rosie crash theory it's kinda make sense but it will be intersthing if they make an episode about rosie having a crash on camera and then she got repainted and btw adam did you plan to make this video or did you the idea from the comment from the other video
Who on earth says Rosie is pink?
She's obviously lavendar (purple)
There's been countless purple engines in the franchise: Culdee Fell Engines, Lady, Splatter, Rosie, Charlie, Ryan, Purple Tender Engines, and Kana from AEG.
I don't know why James found out she was red in the fastest red engine, and journey beyond sodor was before that episode and James saw Rosie, as red.
When i first saw red Rosie i thought she was purple but then i looked a bit and I noticed she was actually red
I prefer the red paint
I think she was painted red because of a joke from Thomas And Friends Meets.
In Thomas And Friends Meets Jacksepticeye Rosie looks at Thomas and says "SENPAI! AAAH!" and Thomas calls her a yandere.
Her colour may have been too similar to Yandere Simulator and Mattel didn’t want any comparisons to be drawn.
I doubt that.
But cool theory anyway.
Notice me senpai! X_X
9:17 I died when James had dementia
