You sound like a Second Amendment guy, a constitutionalist. I’m glad and proud to see a officer of the law that believes in the right of the people to defend them selves. Godspeed!
Police officers don’t uphold their oath to the constitution though. By volunteering to enforce all laws they violate their oath as some of those laws are unconstitutional (red flag laws, victimless “crimes”). Police are hired for one sole purpose, generating revenue for the state (through any form of coercion possible). One cannot be a constitutionalist and be a police officer simultaneously. It’d be an oxymoron.

I recently purchased a plate carrier and a pair of coated and curved steel plates from Main Gun Military Surplus. Even though the plates are Line-X coated, I was still concerned about spall and these spall guards look like the perfect solution.

I had basically this idea I’ve been trying to get someone to test out. I dont have the xtra materials to test it myself. The lvl3+ plate with coating has separation issues as we know. What i did was take the Kevlar out of a expired lvl3 soft vest and put in front of the plate. The sides and top that hang over i hammered back around to the front. Hammering it makes the crease stay and it kind of makes a “C” channel in the front to help catch anything coming up and gives double Kevlar on the top and sides for direct impact. A little Alabama chrome (duck tape) to hold it in place helps. The xtra thickness makes it a bitch to get in the carrier, but once you work it in, it stays and doesn’t sag or try to work its way down to the bottom of the carrier. This looks like the closest thing I’ve seen to that idea. This is a clean looking final version compared to my crude proof of concept idea. I cant tell how thick that is. Does it look like the same thickness as the front insert of a soft vest or a little thinner? If if slips in the carrier easy it cant be as thick.i put it in a iotv and it took about 15 mins of pulling to get it in. I would love to see some test ran on this and see how it holds up. I’m sure it will hold up longer than anyone wearing it would. If you take 10 .308 shots, spalling is probably not the top priority. The only down side to my idea is it doesn’t leave room for a trauma pad. Does the sleeve have one sewn in the back? I’m thinking by using a full front insert from a soft vest plus the coating and plate, it may actually increase the protection closer to lvl4 but offer multi hit protection the ceramic plates cant offer. I’d like to see someone put a 30-06 ap in one and see if it makes it through.

Pretty nice. The build up coating is okay but a rifle hit within 2" of the edge will still spall out from under it generally. This is a much better solution.

I ordered plates but didn't have a coating added to the purchase by mistake. Should I reorder or just buy a sleeve for sprall
If I have the extra build up coat, can it still fit in the spall guards? or will it be too thick?
I apologize for not responding to your comment sooner. I'm not completely sure, but I would shoot him and e-mail and I'm sure he could fit it to the build up plate. He makes these to you're exact specs by hand so I doubt there would be a problem. Thanks for watching!

Excellent video very informative this protection is perfect to accompany my AR500 plates. I was worried about Spalling and your video help solve that life threatening issue. I visited the website and seems like the supplier is a straight forward kinda guy I will be emailing him soon with my order, I think I might only get the front cover though trying to save on weight my kit is already heavy as hell' Did you notice the extra weight at all?

UnrulyTenEight I have the very same carrier and similar setup but I was wondering....how on earth did you get the CAT Tourniquet applied to the side of your IFAK? I am wanting mine in the same place on the PC that you have it but just cant figure it out. lol Thanks for the help and stay safe out there brother.
molle all over the side panels. Your PC might have straps instead, but you can certainly purchase side carriers with molle for your PC. Then it's easy to put your ifak wherever you wish mate!
army i.o.t.v. deltoid kevlar, fits the entire face and sides of a standard steel plate with the use of duct tape lol. You can pick them up for like 10 dollars at surplus stores.
Glad to see you're a Deputy Sheriff now! Are you on the road or did they stick you in the jail for a while? My department we have to do a minimum of 2 years in the jail. Nice rig too man, mine is similar but I went with black, and I still need to buy plates. Thanks for the review bro, stay safe.
Hey thanks for watching and for the support! Luckily we are only the few agencies that hire dedicated correctional officers for the jail, however I have done a few shifts on OT lol Black is a solid choice, especially for patrol. Let me know which plates you decide on, there are a lot of good options out there these days. Stay safe brother!
What about about trauma pad. This plate can brake ribs and punch trough lungs.

Is it common for departments to let their officers keep plate carriers with them? I'm 20, just started working as a security guard, hoping to get into law enforcement as soon as I'm done with school. I've been looking into getting one of these carriers as I'm planning to take a carbine class from Chris Costa. Also curious if color is an issue with your department as far as the carrier is concerned. Great video and thanks for your time.
It would be a liability for a Law Enforcement Agency to forbid you from having it. Basically, it's all fair game unless it's against the law or it's against agency policy. Lol

its cheaper just to get the build up and it would be better that velcro being on the front bottom is also a bad idea

Absolutely, I will hold up my oath to all enemies both foreign and domestic. The Sheriff I work for is very pro-2A and one of the few in CA who issues CCWs without prejudice.
