Yes the 1970’s live in Paris is the best! From Bills drumming to Geezers bass intertwined. Then there’s Tony’s brilliant fresh guitar work to the great vocals of a young Ozzie. Superior to the aging band as here, where Ozzies voice is no where near as good as it was, even though the band here is still showing energy and greatness.
The song Walpurgis was changed to become War Pigs. That live version ozzy sang was an unfinished version of war Pigs. Some of the final verses were missing, and some of the lyrics to Walpurgis were still in the song.
You couldn't have picked a better song for your introduction to the mighty Sabbath the Godfathers of Metal. This is one of the greatest rock songs ever and it bypasses genres.Everyone can love this. Great review
At this time, the song is almost 50 years old and is still relevant today. Hope you got all the words but it is worth reading them if you missed some. Love your reactions and look forward to them everyday !!
Generals gathered in their masses; Just like witches at black masses; Evil minds that plot destruction; Sorcerer of death's construction; In the fields, the bodies burning; As the war machine keeps turning; Death and hatred to mankind; Poisoning their brainwashed minds; Oh lord, yeah! Politicians hide themselves away; They only started the war; Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor, yeah; Time will tell on their power minds; Making war just for fun; Treating people just like pawns in chess; Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah! Now in darkness, world stops turning; Ashes where their bodies burning; No more war pigs have the power; Hand of God has struck the hour; Day of judgement, God is calling; On their knees, the war pigs crawling; Begging mercy for their sins; Satan laughing, spreads his wings; Oh lord, yeah!

Tony Iommi is one of my favorite guitarists! I was never a big fan of Black Sabbath, but when my friends would play it on a boom box back in the 80's, I always liked the guitar playing. I've come to appreciate them more over the years, especially the the drums and bass. Ward and Geezer are some of the best in rock history.

Siren at start is an Air Raid siren from WW2 , throughout war in UK you would hear these , they continued to test these till the early 70s , so sound would be very familiar to young people of the 60s and 70s . My mother lived in Bournemouth during WW2 and they were regularly bombed and straffed and the air raid sirens would go off then you would hear the anti aircraft guns firing followed by the explosions of the bombs , she said it was terrifying but exciting . First saw Sabbath live in 1973 . It’s great young people still appreciate this music 50 years after it was first played .
Ozzy just did an interview this week where he said he will come out and play in a wheelchair if he hast to and for the Rams season opener he came up through a hole in the stage we’re in a big cape but what people didn’t see, was a steel bar hidden under the cape, with his harness around his body to hold him up to sing. Ozzy truly lives for his fans in the music.
Britt i was introduced to Black Sabbath by my teenage cousin who babysat me. About 1976, it shaped my musical tastes for my entire life. In my 50's now and heavy metal is all i have ever listened to.
I was fortunate enough to see Ozzy live once a few years ago. He could barely move but his voice was still so amazing. It's crazy that a voice that good can come from an old man that's lived the way he has! I highly, highly recommend reading Ozzys autobiography!
This is a really good performance! I fortunately saw Sabbath their last two tours, and Ozzy was like "Show me yer fucking hands!", "I love you!", "God Bless You!". 🤘😎
I love people hearing this for the first time. It’s never what they expected. Black Sabbath and Ozzy in his solo work have songs that deal with mental health issues. The music on it’s own is very powerful as well.❤
That was a great performance by Ozzy and his band mates! If you haven't I recommend going back to the studio version on audio remastered just to experience what we did in 1970 when they released this song. As the earliest pioneers of Heavy Metal as they are known, you are correct, this song is timeless and I like how you caught the simple melody surrounded by a monster wall of sound. That was cool! Another song about the tragedies of society is "Hand of Doom" from the same album Paranoid.
Ozzi knows how to get the crowd going. For an even more intense crowd participation, check out RUSH, "YYZ", Live In Rio concert. That crowd is "into it" like I have never seen!!! 🔥🔥🔥
We are litterally looking at a piece of living history! These elder gentlemen have kept the band together for more than 50 years...and at the time this started Black Sabbath farthered Heavy Metal as a genre. Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, Toni Iommi (founder of B.S) and Ozzy Osbourne are all in thier mid-70´. They have a catalog of songs which spans more than 5 decades. I first time listened to Black Sabbath in 1971, 11 years old, to Paranoid and have been a huge fan since then. No band above and none aside Black Sabbath. These guys are undisputed kings of thier game
What’s very interesting is right as the song opened she described the sound as “huge”. If you look at interviews with Tony and Geezer, that was literally their exact goal. They wanted to make 3 people (with instruments) to sound like a symphony. They wanted it to feel huge. She NAILED it
So glad you were able to experience , albeit by video, Tony Iommi , the Riff Master on guitar. Had the pleasure of seeing Black Sabbath with Pantera way back when
Thanks so much. You should really check out the original studio version, when they were younger and in their prime. It's a musical masterpiece with meaning. (lots of reviewers do it, so maybe they don't block...I dunno)
Yes, I was so much hoping for a reaction to the studio recording, but yet here is another live. Just doesn't sound the same, and it very much is not better than the original in studio recording, it is just different. And late in the song, as they go into the last guitar solo, Ozzy has the crowd going "OOhhhhh, ooooohhhhhhhh, oooohhh" to drown out the beginning of the most powerful solo in rock music, imo, it was just disappointing. The studio version is the superior version, without the visual and auditory distractions.
@@mikell5087 I am constantly telling reviewers to do original studio versions of songs. Yes indeed, one of the greatest songs by any rock band, it has been absorbed into pop culture over the last 53 years, please listen to the studio original when you can. There are many amazing live versions of it, the one you just saw is from the end of their career when the reformed in 2013, did a great last album called 2013, I saw them on the farewell tour, it was the last of 8 times I saw the original band (first in 1974 and 13 total times seeing Black Sabbath, including 3 with Dio and once each for Ian Gillian and Glenn Hughes, wish I saw Tony Martin when they did Tyr). You should also see live versions of War Pigs in 1970 in Paris when they were young and just releasing albums, they were killer and Bill Ward almost destroys his drums, and also see them in 1974 at the the California Jam in front of 250,000, Ozzy has them going nuts again. Great stuff, Sabbath is a huge rabbit hole of rock and metal exellence. Legends forever. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
Wow you are really old 😉Just kidding. Greetings from your fellow old man reaction channel friend. Good to see you over here. You probably already know how much I love Sabbath and this song. I'm guessing we have talked about them before. Good performance, but I would have preferred one of the ones from the 70s, such as Paris or the California Jam. The lyrics stand out more in those, along with being incredible performances from the rest of the band. But better than the music video one where the reactors tend to be more focused on the video than the song, even though it is the excellent studio version underneath.
@@LeeKennison I was really to young to fully appreciate the concert but I had most of their albums. I think the 1970 Paris version has some different lyrics. They were still working on those. I agree this video is just too much. I’m over in the chat at nightly moth Dylan concert it’s really good

I've never ever seen anyone hit the drums so hard as Bill Ward......and I can honestly say I never saw a duff gig by them. Once again Britt a great reaction.
This band will always be legends Ozzy is the goat Tony iomi I mean what can you say about his guitar play it's iconic I've seen Ozzy twice always some of the best shows I've ever seen
Tony Iommi quit his job to pursue a career as a guitarist but on the very last day of working at the sheet metal factory he lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers in an accident. On this right hand which is his fret hand since he is left handed. He was told he'd never be able to play guitar again. Instead he made his own fingertip prosthetics and found a different way of guitar playing which inspired the sound of the entire heavy metal genre
Another interesting thing about both Black Sabbath and Judas Priest is that they both formed in Birmingham in 1968 and 1969 respectively. A steel town. I honestly believe that's what really made metal metal, the influence of growing up in a steel town.
This looks like from their last tour, the first and only time I saw Ozzy and Sabbath. My god am I glad I got there for it. They showed incredible energy and ability to deliver the same vibe they did 50 years earlier. That shit is NOT easy. Ozzy seems like such a clueless stoner on his show, but he’s still there, or at least was at this point. They slayed.
One of a kind voice that we won't hear again once we lose Ozzy. You'd love his ballad with Lita Ford, another kick a$$ female guitarist, called If I Closed My Eyes Forever.
Black Sabbath are: Ozzy Osborne (Lead Vocals) Tony Iommi (co-founder & Guitarist) Geezer Butler (Bassist) Bill Ward (Drums) Steven Tyler is the lead singer of Aerosmith

Doesn’t Ozzy fuck up the words in that one?
Yes the 1970’s live in Paris is the best! From Bills drumming to Geezers bass intertwined. Then there’s Tony’s brilliant fresh guitar work to the great vocals of a young Ozzie.

Saw em in Pittsburg in 71.
You should pull up the lyrics and give them a read... so raw & truthful. One of the best war protest songs ever written.
Ozzy's greatest strength for me was the way he could be so melodic and soulful in the midst of that walls-of-hell band.
Black Sabbath are:
Ozzy Osborne (Lead Vocals)
Tony Iommi (co-founder & Guitarist)
Geezer Butler (Bassist)
Bill Ward (Drums)
Steven Tyler is the lead singer of Aerosmith
Very powerful for 1970. Vietnam in full swing.
The song is EPIC
