  • @SuperEffector

    Personally I find 6/14 is the best split outside of specific builds. A lot of paladin sub classes don’t gain much at 7 and a lot of sorcerers get something pretty good or great at 14. You still get a lot of spell slots and I don’t think the build loses too much from not getting 1-2 high end spells. That’s more of a problem for the wizard who loses them all.

    I love making early game builds more than anything and have always wanted to play a sorcadin around level 5, but never wanted to give up extra attack. Taking polearm master is actually a genius fix to tide you over until you get real extra attack and it allows you to get sorcerer levels way earlier. I can’t believe I never considered it as an option.
    Thank you for showing me that man. It’s really cool!

      The 2/18 with booming blade/green flame blade is fun. Plays like more of a smite based spellsinger, though.
      On that note, 2 paladin 18 spellsinger wouldn't be too bad.

    Hello! Great build as usual.
    I do have one small concern, however. You dip Sorcerer early at level 2 to get Shield, however beware because at this point you dont have Warcaster on a build that has both hands busy.
    This escalates poorly with Polearm Master specially, since it will require you to start juggling your spear, dropping it and/or stowing it, thus prohibiting you to make Opportunity Attacks, which is one of the great perks of the feat.
    Im sure youre aware of this since you pick up Warcaster at Paladin 4, but I thought it was worth noting.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229  2 года назад +5

      Yup. Great point. That would’ve been included in a longer vid. No time on this vid, but it’s an important detail that should be addressed.
      I may consider a two-handed weapon like a glaive and dropping the shield, if your DM runs a tight ship with hands free casting. At least from levels 2-5.

    can't go without the hexblade 1, gotta love the SAD. comes with a couple extra goodies too, like short rest spell slots for tealocking and agathys. if the party really needed it, i'd take hexblade up to 2 for devil's sight, since starting variant human can be annoying depending on the campaign (+ take another invocation, like agonizing blast for a ranged option). that being said, opportunity cost might not be worth it, and it's less of a pure sorcadin at that point 😂. love the build!

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229  2 года назад +6

      You don’t need hexblade. It might not even be beneficial to do so. You’re basically giving up a level in sorcerer (and delaying all your levels) to get a +1 to attack/dmg. Worth it? Maybe.

      @@cmccbuilds8229 oh yeah that makes sense. but wouldn't you say that putting the stats into dex 14 instead of str 15 would be worth it? slightly better initiative, no penalty to sneak (breastplate + shield), dex saves are a little higher and str is safer to dump anyway (just take acrobatics from somewhere). is it still better to go heavy armour then?

    Pally 7 warlock 5 fighter 2 sorcerer 6 is the only paladin build I can justify that focuses on weapon attacks, you get your 5th level slots for smiles, you get eldritch smite which isn't worth a 3rd level slot but you won't be needing one, you get more than a few spells and features and up to 5 attacks on a turn burning through those smite slots, round 1 I'm still popping bless and making sure I'm on my horsey and near my casters before I charge in

    For my money, a 2 level paladin start into either warlock or bard is where it's at for this play style. Charisma casters and both get multi attack with proper build. Boom; heavy armor, shield, martial weapons and multi attack smite spam from a caster that will reach level 9 spells. No compromises, though the 5-7 stretch IS a bit painful if you have good enough starting stats to go the bard route.

    I find that splashing in 1 level of hexblade and going elven accuracy vengeance sorlockadin is really strong. You can even take eldritch adept later and get the agonizing blast. This way, you can essentially play the sorlock (spam eldritch blast with agonizing blast with action and bonus action), and also do sorcadin things except you crit on 19-20 with 3d20 rolls on a single target x1 per short rest. If the boss flies away from you, provided you have that you have channel divinity and hexblade's curse you, you can murder it with EB spam

    I’ve been playing one in a recent campaign that is dex based and has became a serious problem. Ability scores go at least 13 in str and chr for multiclasses. As much in dex, con second, and then int last. I got level 1 feat (kobold cus our dm was nice enough to give us lvl 1 feats) and took spell sniper to let me cast booming blade at 10ft, that because my main damage would be from booming blade, and started with my first level into draconic sorcerer, partly for the con saves and partly for charicter flavor l.
    then 2 levels into paladin for smites + martial weapons mostly, also grabbed some fun stuff. Next level sorc, pick up twin spell and quicken spell for maximum attacks. And at 4 grab the war caster feat.
    Now it get serious, the rest of the levels go into sorceres for more slots and bigger spells, although you aren’t playing a sorcerer, your a paladin, with a lit of smite slots. However before you start smiting remember to never get hit, give yourself blur, and spam shield when needed. Dropping concentration (at least at the level I’m playing this guy at (7)) is rare with your proficency in con and warcaster, so the rare times you do get him, you can stay up and fight. Your a dodge tank, not a meat tank. Now just have fun never getting hit, running around people and forcing them to move to trigger more booming blade damage.
    It’s probobly not the most optimal and depending on how long the game goes on for might be better to go more into paladin for aura and such after 4-5 levels into sorcerer. I’m going deeper mostly to pick up spells that matches my charicters flavor, but all spells shouldn’t be damage or save based spells but instead buffs, utility or ones that augment you and your teams abilities. The people I’m playing with I’m the only real veteran in the group and holy shit it’s needed, we have almost died so many times. But I’m excited to get polymorph and turn one of them into a T-Rex

    I went with Tabaxi (MotM) 8 Open Sea Paladin/12 Aberrant Mind Sorcerer. Shadow Blade is my primary weapon spell of choice, and quickening a Dissonant Whispers can give you a potential 3Melee smitable attacks plus the damage from Whispers for a total of 4 instances of HEAVY psychic damage, and that's before any smiting. At base, Shadow Blade does 2d8 with advantage in dim/dark, and the blindsight fighting style makes this devastating in magical darkness. At spell lv 7, Shadow Blade does 5d8 per attack!

    • @noditianniz-emir7075
      @noditianniz-emir7075 2 года назад

      Hexblade is useful if you want to take spells with saving throws. Yes, you're 1 level behind from getting ASIs, but when you get to it it's pretty much like getting 2 ASIs since you'll get the equivalent of upgrading your attack modifier and spell DC modifier at the same moment in the game (again, only useful if you want to go for spells with saving throws), and Eldritch Blast is a useful cantrip, even without taking Agonizing Blast the extra attacks and damage type can be a buff to other options for when the enemy doesn't have you in its reach.
      But a character can perfectly take stuff like shield, magic misile or just divine smite and ignore his Charisma.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229  2 года назад +1

      There are certainly plenty of pluses to taking a hexblade dip. No question. Do they outweigh the negatives? I’m not so sure.

    • @noditianniz-emir7075
      @noditianniz-emir7075 2 года назад

      It is certainly a decision, losing 1 level in the build means that you would lose your aura or your wings, personally I would take it in exchange for the paladin’s aura.
      But again this works better if you want to get the most out of your saving throw DC and ASIs, if you start with a 16 in your Str and Cha and want to take them both to 20 you would need 4 ASIs and you only get 5 of them.
      While with a single level in Hexblade you would upgrade your Attack and ST DC with just 2 ASIs allowing you to take other feats like tough, ritual caster, fighting initiate for the dueling fighting style, Magic Initiate, Ritual Caster, etc.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229  2 года назад +1

      Hexblade also gives you access to Armor of Agathys and the shield spell without having to dip sorcerer right away, but you delay Spirit Guardians, which is tough for me, since it comes online so late already.
      Basically, I'd have to weigh the ability to get Strength increasing magic items. A small chance to get them would make me want to dip into hexblade a bit more. A good chance would mean, I probably would forgo the dip for a straight sorcadin multiclass.

Quickening boing blade comes to mind. As well as reaction boomimng blade. Now, doing this for booming blade is the simplest of examples of what to spend your bonus action instead of extra attacks. Quickened cast of bless of spirit guardians is a better example, and booming blade on reaction doesn't cost anything. Even better casting booming blade as a reaction will force the creature that triggered that reaction to rethink if it really wants to get away from you.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229  2 года назад +2

      Crown of Stars makes ranged spell attacks - so it's a bad pick for a melee character. Firestorm is ok. Damage isn't great. Draconic Transformation provides Blindsight, Flying (so no need for ranged attacks, you can fly right into melee), and a 60 foot cone 6d8 breath weapon EVERY turn as a bonus action. And it's force damage, not fire. It's a strong spell.
      Divine Word is also extremely powerful. If you're going against a lot of Celestial, Fiends, elemental, or fey - you kind of have to grab this spell. A bonus action, concentration free banishment on ALL the CFEF's that can hear you? Yes please.

    I played this exact build but with sword and shield it is insanely good. But in my mind paladin 2/divine sorc 18 is probably the option for sorcadin since Booming blade can replace extra attack and with so many spell slots you can smite more often and with a concentration spell like animate object, spirit guardians and spiritual weapon your damage will be equal if not higher than other melee classes(not to mention simulacrum and wish) . The only things that really hurt is missing out divine protection and the fact that only 2 level of paladin is really really bad for role play since you are a paladin without an oath that's why I choose paladin 6/sorc X just because it would not feel like a paladin without at least the sacred oath even if Pala 2/sorc X is better on average unless you want to be tanky but you could be hard to kill even with just the full plate shield and absorb elements but you would have fewer HP and much lower saves

    I'm always confused why the 2/18 split is seen as weaker. It's generally acknowledged that somewhere between level 5 and 10 casters pull ahead of martials, and the divide gets bigger at higher levels. It seems to me that the 2/18 split gives up nothing at the very low levels, a little at the 5-7 range, and then pulls ahead hard and never looks back.
    When the full Paladin gets their second subclass feature, you're getting 3rd level spells. No subclass feature is as powerful as Spirit Guardians or Hypnotic Pattern.

    Personally sacrificing the aura of protection and taking a 1 level hex blade dip to ignore strength is my go to. 1/5/14

    Paladin 13 soc 7, get a dragonnel mount, haste, smites, gwm, polearm. LOADS of damage, no one can get to you with 240ft and flyby. Add all the Paladins goodies +shield, absord, feather fall
